My dog

I can't recommend Fun Paw Care enough! Russell is incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely cares about both the dogs and their owners. From the very beginning, he treated me like a friend and cared for my dog as if he were his own. My dog struggled with anxiety and other behavioral issues, and Russell went above and beyond while boarding him. Not only did he provide exceptional care, but he also shared so much helpful advice and guidance that has made a real difference in my dog's behavior and confidence. It's rare to find someone who is so passionate, patient, and experienced. You can tell Russell truly loves what he does, and it shows in the way he cares for every dog. Thank you, Russell, for everything you've done for us!

Happy Puppy!
D S.

Incredibly skilled and thorough in breaking down how to make meaningful changes with precision and clarity. Truly an amazing experience that will allow Daisy and me to embrace a remarkable journey together. I am so grateful for Russ and will continue to work with him and take advantage of his services for the long haul.

Russell is amazing! His advice and the way he connected with our dog were both incredible. Looking forward to having him help with our new puppy in a few months! Russ makes all the difference and truly makes having a pet something wonderful.

Our Pup Kona

I worked with Fun Paw Care to assist with training our new Labradoodle pup Kona, and Russ's help was invaluable. With Fun Paw Care's training advice and experience, we were able to quicky (relatively :)) get our pup housebroken, sleeping happily in his crate and keeping his paws on the ground (most of the time :)) . I highly recommend Fun Paw Care for all of your puppy training and related needs!

Max being happy after meeting Russ.
Peter E.

We adopted Max, who was a rescue, three months ago. While he was clearly a great dog, he had anxiety, which demonstrated itself in a crippling fear of the central air. He would shake and pant uncontrollably and would take water, treats or food. We also had some issues with his reactions to other dogs and people when on walks. We did one session with Russ, who is worth EVERY PENNY, and Max made massive strives within just a few days of applying Russ's instructions. Now, three weeks out, Max has no response to the central air, is getting soooo good on his walks, with little issues with other dogs -- even when they bark first -- and people. It would take too long to go into all the specifics, but Russ taught us better ways to communicate to Max and ways to address and relieve his anxiety. We changed everything from the treats, the harness, the leash and more. The results were immediate and amazing. We still have a lot more training to do, but could not be happier because Max is happier. Bottom line: Russ is the best and, I can't emphasize this enough: he loves what he does and is excellent at it. Our dog trusted him immediately and so did we. Russ also excels at customer service - he responds quickly, is incredibly thoughtful in his follow ups, and is, quite simply, a pure delight to do business with. He was a bit of a stretch for our budget, but we have absolutely no regrets going with him. Again: he's the best!

Out training

I can't speak enough of how happy I am about the results of using Fun Paw Care. From beginning to end Russ was great in setting up expectations and explaining all the processes that he undertakes in training a pup. Please be aware that it's not a fix it all thing, that's unrealistic. But he's amazing in assessing each pup by breed, personality, traits and working with those specifics to each dog. Training a dog is a life long task, and he was also amazing in setting me up for success once the training was done. During the training process I received daily emails with progress and report on status along with photos and videos. I never felt detached from my pup cause it was obvious that he was in great hands. Wish I would have gone to him sooner.

Russ built an incredible foundation in my puppy's training in just one week! We will be attending another Boot Camp in the future. Thanks, Russ!

Beau on a field trip with Russ @funpawcare

Puppy Boot Camp with Russ was the way to go for me and Beau. I got a new family member on January 11, 2021, an 8 week old puppy. He was a 4# bundle of joy, excitement, and surprises. I read a bit about having a puppy but nothing I read prepared me to be good at training my new little guy. After a week or two of Beau training me on whatever behavior he fancied I decided I needed a professional to get us started on the right paw. I found Russ Hartstein and Fun Paw Care, from the Los Angeles area. His credentials are stellar, and so are his reviews. Russ first came to my place to meet Beau and me. Within that first session he had Beau responding to his hand commands. I saw that I had a great deal to learn. I enrolled Beau in the Fun Paw Care puppy boot camp immersion program. Daily behavior reports, wonderful photographs, and video training sessions were delivered to me so I could watch and learn from Beau's camp life experience. Beau was very happy with his time at camp, the field trips, playing in the snow, snuggled in by the fireplace and learning to be secure and well behaved. A great and enriching experience. Beau came home yesterday. Did he get taller while he was away? He and I are practicing the lessons Russ taught us. Basically, I am the one who learned a lot and Beau appreciates that!! As Beau gets older we will seek a follow-up fun and enriching boot camp to round out his behavior and development.

happy camper

I am so lucky to have found the clarity and the perspective that Russ (the work, the references, the gear and the writing) has brought to the human/dog relationship. I know it's just the tip of the iceberg and there will be up's and downs, but the dog and I have had such a magical week with the new collar and starting to put small pieces of the practice into action. I already feel the energy shift from the pup -- a 6-year old reactive dog who has previously had lots of "training". And now every time I put the collar on, I'm full of joy and the pup is too. And I wish the pup could talk to me so I could hear what he thinks. I will be forever grateful to Russ for this really powerful work.

My cat watching his new bff, Jackson!
Dave S.

I was at the breaking point with my "disobedient" black lab puppy until I had the good fortune of meeting Russell during a morning jog. I had tried, unsuccessfully, a number of techniques suggested via an exhaustive Google dog training search to stop Jackson from nipping (albeit, playfully), jumping on people, and getting overly stimulated, but none had worked. I had worked with two trainers, but their efforts were fruitless. For starters, Russell pointed out a number of flaws related to my body language, gait, and technique as it related to my handling of Jackson. I made changes as per his advice, and the impact was immediately noticeable. I also realized that I was letting my dog walk me, rather than vice versa. Russell was able to swiftly help with that as well. His understanding and practice of dog training and behavioral therapy are extremely impressive, and his genuine love of animals is reflected in his approach to training. Although we still have work to do, the difference in Jackson's behavior since Russell started working with him has exceeded all expectations. He also helped me integrate my new adopted cat into my home with Jackson as well. I am truly grateful!!

But what really sets them apart is how attentive and caring the staff is. Pip had been having some stomach issues, and I mentioned it to them so they could keep an eye on her. They went above and beyond and actually sent me a photo of a concerning stool (not the kind of photo you expect to be grateful for, but here we are). Because of that, I took Pip to the vet right away, and turns out she had a bout of pancreatitis. The vet told me that catching it that early made a big difference and that she's expected to recover quickly. I was a client of Tender Loving Care for over 17 years, then PetRock Hotel and Spa bought the company, keeping some employees. I have purebred show dogs and they have been groomed by the same employee for year's as this person knows the breed and knows how to groom them. No bones to pick with the employee. It was the new OWNER of PetRock Hotel and Spa. Apparently the NEW owner told the "bather boy" to take care of my dog despite that the only employee for 17 years + has groomed my show dogs. THIS was a SERIOUS PROBLEM AS My dog came back butchered! This is a spitz breed that carries a lot of coat and HUGE ruff which was mutilated to almost nothing but 2 inches!! My poor dog looks awful and looks like a starving coyote!! Plus, I have been charged almost double since the new owner took over and also charged me credit card fees in excess of $5 per dog. IF YOU HAVE SHOW DOGS, DO NOT GO TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT. They don't known how to groom show dogs they are just clipper hacks that charge way to much money to butcher your dog!! NEVER COMING BACK!! Below are photos of what my dog should look like in full coat, and what the dog looked like after I picked up my dog, which is naked. I can't even show my dog for at least 6 months due to the hair being pulled out. The regular groomer, Miguel has always groomed my dog but for some reason the new owner let a totally untrained rookie hack and wanna be groomer pull out all my dog's hair for a bath and blow dry only!! UNBELIEVABLY PISSED OFF!!
