LAK9 is one of the best, if not THE best, daycare boarding for our girl, Topanga. This is the only place where she runs towards the door, forgets about us, and never wants to leave. Here are a few reasons why I love them: 1. Everyone that works here are amazing! They are so kind, friendly, and really loves dogs. I have never had a bad experience, and they have always treated us with such kindness. 2. They post JUST ENOUGH on Instagram where it makes you feel comfortable knowing they're having fun. Some people like watching their dogs via live cameras. Yes, that has its perks, but then you find yourself constantly watching and monitoring. Instead, at LAK9, someone is playing and referring the dogs, filming the best content, and that's enough to keep you sane. 3. If anything happens to Topanga, we get an immediate text. For example, one time they noticed hives. They texted us with photos, told us they are closely monitoring, and keeping us in the loop. They are very responsive, so we never need to worry. 4. Finally, today was a bit tough since we had to take Topanga to the hospital. We were supposed to fly out tonight and board Topanga, but unfortunately, that couldn't happen. I left a voicemail letting LAK9 know that we had to cancel. Within MINUTES, Dave, the owner, gave me a call. I thought we were going to talk logistics about the cancellation, or what the fee would look like. Nope. Instead, he called just to check-in on Topanga and to see how she was doing. We also got a text from Leslie who let us know that she will put the reservation on hold just in case, and checking-in on Topanga as well. This was a small gesture, but it really meant a lot to us. LAK9s' unique structure means they only put my little guy with other dogs they know will be gentle and watch them play the entire time. I originally came here for a consult for my newly adopted husky/shepherd and Colleen was able to give me a lot of useful knowledge to work on in terms of place training, crate, and leash work. Mind you, all the dogs at the daycare are well behaved. My dog was on the side of reactiveness and needed to work on a neutral state, but they were willing to offer help if I was to bring my dog on a consistent basis. I think LAK9s has such a great pack, and i follow their social media which has a lot of useful tips. They really care about the dogs. I think if you can take your dog here I would do it. I've tried several daycares, and most of the time the facilities are not designed well to board and for daycares. Where to begin?!?! Amazing owners (Colleen and Dave) and crew - they put your pooch first and do their very best to take the very best care of them. It's been years we take our dog here. It started with the full on training (we left him here for a week or so once we adopted him to get all the basic skills sorted out), we went back for more training for the dog owners - especially mom. We do boarding every year for several weeks at a time and we never need to worry about his wellbeing. Daycare is just as great - always available and easy. Our dog Jazz has been going to LAK9s since she was 4 months old! Before I found LAK9s I looked at many other daycares in the area and was disappointed by the outdoor space/staff/ big dog areas. The structure of the day club is great, giving the dogs a good balance of down time and play time. We also love how he's around the same group of dogs every week with the way day club works. The check in and check out process is easy and efficient. We also utilized Colleen's training services and she gave us all the tools to curb our pup's nipping problem - within 2 weeks we have a changed dog (and a better life lol). BEST DECISION EVER. I can't explain how much LAK9's has enhanced our relationship with our 1 yr old Belgian Malinois puppy. When we signed our dog up for the Board & Train program at 7 months old, she was a sweet puppy with wild tendencies. Justin took our dog under his wing and within two weeks she looked and acted like an elite show dog. She spent one more week training with Colleen and since bringing her home our time and life with her has been nothing short of perfection. We can take her anywhere with us (multiple restaurants per day) and she will relax quietly until we are ready to leave. I was honestly skeptical when LAK9s told me that most owners would only need the 2 hour eval with their trainers to address issues/concerns we had. Let me tell you a little background on my rescue dog, 9 year old Nigel. Nigel spent 8 years in a very abusive home that neglected him terribly. This led him to become extremely aggressive and insecure. He was finally rescued from that situation and I adopted him one year ago. During the last year, we have had countless ups and downs. Despite my love for him, Nigel was highly anxious, protective of me (I was his person), and very reactive to anyone/anything (especially My husband) . He gave no warning before biting and definitely meant his bite by drawing blood and latching on. My wife and I travel a lot for work and used to leave our dog with a neighbor. It was fantastic having someone local who genuinely loved our dog, and it felt good knowing that we were throwing money to someone who needed it, but he definitely wasn't pro. When our dog would come back after a week with a bad habit or two, we would write it off as a small price to pay for saving money on boarding and helping a friend. Sadly, that friend died a few months ago (don't I know how to bring a story down?) and we were left afraid to travel, as our dog admittedly has some attachment issues, and we (and our friends and families) have had suspect experiences with boarders and kennels. When a friend highly recommended LAK9s, we desperately made the call. I filled out all the online paperwork and scheduled a walk-through with our dog for the day before we were leaving. First thing I noticed was that our little guy wasn't shaking at all when we brought him into the complex, and he remained fully calm when I handed his leash to Colleen. Second thing I noticed was the smile on everyone's face and upbeat spirit of everyone who worked there. They immediately took our guy into the small dog play area, and he immediately settled in (he loves being around other dogs). After 15 minutes, I was convinced it was the place for Tito.... and brought him back the next day for a week long doggy vacay. When we picked him up, he was obviously excited to see us, but he wasn't mad we left him - there was no spiteful behavior for leaving, no bad habits to break, no vengeful messes to clean up, just a happy pup who came home, was happy to be with his people, and slept like a champ. My takeaway? Boarding places for dogs are a dime a dozen. Especially in L.A., people will pay through the ass for a private hotel room and video surveillance for their pet, but that isn't what owning a dog is all about. Our dogs are our family, and positive energy and the support of a pack means a lot more than satin sheets in a room by themselves for 20 hours, or a dog walker who spends more time watching their phone than they do paying attention to the their twisted mess of leashes. We've left our dog at places and had him returned to us three pounds lighter and a shaking, nervous wreck. Another time we had him returned sick. At LAK9s our dog received healthy and supervised attention from both other dogs AND loving and professional care takers. He got something he doesn't get when he's by our side 24/7 - he got to be a dog with other dogs in a supervised and healthy environment. And most importantly, he was surrounded by strong and positive energy, and cared for by people who not only love dogs, but know how how to make them them the best dogs they can be. I've used lak9 for every service. Dog training, daycare and boarding. I first went to them for dog training with our Chihuahua mix Tango, who was a nervous, hyper alert and at times snappy 1yr old. I'd tried one trainer before but they couldn't fix the issues that came from his nervousness. My friend used Coleen to help their hypoactive poodle mix and so, we gave Tango to Coleen for 8 days board and train with two human training sessions. It was well worth the investment. Tango can now control himself and we understand him on a dog leave. I take Tango to daycare when ever I can, even though we moved away to Woodland Hills. All the staff know him and are all dog trainers. My dog is very needed and I have trouble trying to get him to be independent and confident, not follow me around the house. I notice that after a day at daycare he is happy to sit away for me or even in another room happily on his own. We always use LAK9 for boarding because he knows the staff and is moved into daycare during the day, and not left in a cage or room for hours on end. She picks up my dog after I leave from my house, he gets to play in her yard and ride along in the car ...she drops him off right before I get home.
