We are so thankful for The Ranch! Our sweet girl Kaiya is dog reactive and very shy/scared around new people and in new environments. We were on the hunt for a place to board her that would understand her individual needs, and The Ranch has exceeded our expectations. We started bringing our reactive, scared, low confidence pup to Ranch in September 2025 when he was almost 2 years old. We had done puppy training with him from 7 mo to 1.5yrs old, so although he had basic obedience down, he was still quite reactive while on leash. We started him in structured daycare where they worked on leash reactivity, confidence building, and general dog interactions. Within 3 months, we already saw a huge improvement in how he behaved around dogs. Still reactive but was definitely gaining confidence. Within 6 months, he was almost a totally different dog: still a bit scared of people but able to play properly with dogs (even correcting behavior) and more of our walks didn't have reactive incidents. Now 8 months later, he has graduated to regular daycare, is less scared of people, and just carries himself differently on walks. He still has his moments, but no one is perfect. We are extremely impressed with the progress he has made in such a short time. He is also going on field trips which has been a great way to reinforce his behavior outside of the training facility. He's worked with basically every trainer at this point but his main trainers are Lea and Kelly who are very helpful in answering any questions we have and providing thorough training videos. They have even come to our place a couple times for private training sessions to reinforce his good habits at home (since although he is on his best behavior there, with mom and dad he feels more confident and is less scared which makes him more disobedient.). We have also boarded him here a few times. Compared to his other place that he went to multiple times and was still scared to enter/so happy to leave, he is always so excited to come to Ranch each time. We cannot say enough good things about our experience with The Ranch Dog Training for our dog Tank's board and train program! Tank spent nearly 5 weeks at the Ranch, and from start to finish, the experience was incredibly professional, thoughtful, and effective. The facility itself is beautiful and well-maintained, and we were blown away by the daily updates, photos, and training videos--it was so reassuring to see exactly what Tank was working on and how much care and intention went into his training. The instructions we received along the way, and especially at pick-up, were detailed and thorough, making us feel confident about continuing the work at home. A special shout-out to his trainer, Manny, who clearly formed a strong bond with Tank. It was heartwarming (and a little heartbreaking!) to see how much Tank loved him--he was genuinely sad to say goodbye when we picked him up. Manny's calm, confident, and consistent energy was exactly what Tank needed, and we are beyond grateful. The in-home training component and structured pickup lesson were incredibly helpful, giving us real-time guidance in our own environment. We know that it's now up to us to maintain the structure and consistency, but we're already seeing the amazing progress Tank made at the Ranch--he's more responsive, calm, and manageable in ways we couldn't have imagined just a month ago. First: highly intelligent high energy dog is what we have and we came for behavior training of jumping, growling at people and dogs while on a walk. Based on reviews, and the observations of other dogs on site, Ranch has its place in helping dogs but I do not recommend them for high iq behavior training. I am sad to report 1.5 hours and no behavior changes. Trainer was nice and loves dogs. She seemed to "understand" dogs as others have pointed out. However, she was unable to gain control of him and train him except to walk at him when he jumps (he usually jumps at others so that wasn't a fix for us). Recommendations included using kibble/treats or a toy as a distractor on walks. The "certified trainer" let us know the dog is frustrated. Asked for a list of verbal commands (so we are all in sync) - none available. She suggested not to train "come" because the dog should come by name: I respectfully disagree as come, sit, fetch are commands and saying the dog's name is to get their attention for the command given. We tried her suggestions when we got home: dog not interested in either of them and thus not effective... the dog is still highly distracted and unresponsive to suggested distractions. This trainer also did not use a clicker or give verbal and physical praise other than use the dog's name. My previous dog training experience the trainer took immediate control of our dogs using HIGH VALUE REWARDS adding clicker, verbal and snuggle for future reward transition. The dogs ignored us entirely when she arrived with highly scented rewards in her well worn training treat pouch and she had their full attention doing short trainings, have them relax while she explained, then picked up again. It was amazing to see the immediate difference with a highly experienced trainer (same breed and we had two littermates to work with). She gave us treats and clicker for practice and told us where to buy high value rewards (they come like a large sausage tube - you break of a piece and make very small taste rewards from it). The soft reward was rolled into smaller than a pea for immediate consumption/reward and maintaining focus on the task. Also, the dog ate a total of a teaspoon or less of treats because they are so small so you don't have an appetite problem after training as we did this time. These high iq dogs also can be challenging to feed. A chew treat diminishes effectiveness because the dog now has to chew it. And looses focus on the behavior. In my previous experience our dogs were changed in one hour and it took. We continued what we were taught, transitioned to clicker, praise and snuggle. Now, six years later we just use verbal and physical praise. They obey commands and are friendly. As for price, our excellent experience was more like $500 per hour at our home with lasting results. One session at $500 was so much more worth it than this frustrating experience. We did two sessions ($1000) and they included cots, clickers and training treat pouches for our two dogs. They also have a Facebook group for previous customers to join free or low cost meet and greet park dates to encourage good behavior and socialization. This was in a different city but I know this type of trainer exists and I believe the Ranch could modify training for these breeds. If you want behavior changes, high value rewards keep their attention on you and your hands for hand signals. In fact, we are able to communicate with our dogs using hand signals only because of this training. A trainer using those rewards will likely get you better, immediate, and lasting results. My dog Gunter is a handful. He was (and still kind of is) a very fearful rescue with very strong dachshund genes. His prey drive is crazy, he is reactive, he doesn't give up easily, etc. When I was searching for a doggy daycare in my area, I was skeptical that anyone would take my dog. He had done private lessons with a trainer for quite some time and while he wasn't perfect, he came a very long way and with my office requiring employees to come back to the office, I needed to find a solution that wouldn't de-rail everything I've worked so hard to accomplish. My dog was born in 2020 which means he's had no socialization. He was surrendered by his family and to be honest, I think even his foster family was happy to see him go because he was such a handful. I knew keeping him at home probably wasn't doing him any favors so I decided to look into daycare where he could be around other dogs and potentially learn from them. My BIGGEST FEAR was Gunter losing all of that structure. I didn't want him to go to a daycare where he could run free and do whatever he wanted. I also wanted a daycare with staff that would correct him if he was doing something unacceptable. I felt better about The Ranch and ultimately decided with them because they are a dog training facility first. After (barely) passing the assessment, I was told he couldn't do regular daycare but had to do structured or daycare training. We've now done both options several times and I was impressed by the detailed report cards with tons of photos and even the continuity with the staff! When I pick him up, even the employees at the front desk are waiting for Gunter to calm down by the door before letting him through to come to me. I was so happy to see him playing with other dogs and with daycare training, I've gotten detailed reports and videos so I can implement the same routine at home. Now that my return to office policy has relaxed and we've kept up with the training, we don't need to go to the ranch as often, but it is our first choice should we ever need to go back for any reason. read more

We've been taking our two dogs to The Ranch for the last 4 years, and after trying tens of places, there is truly no comparison. The team has helped us with training both dogs and they always do an amazing job teaching us how to be better dog parents. A Truly Exceptional Experience - Thank You, The Ranch! When a family emergency came up unexpectedly, I was in a bind and needed to find last-minute boarding for my 3-year-old French Bulldog, Roscoe. I had heard glowing recommendations about The Ranch, a board and train facility, but they were fully booked. To my surprise and immense relief, they were still able to accommodate my last-minute request--and I'll forever be grateful that they did. Everyone I had the pleasure of meeting and interacting with was absolutely wonderful--warm, professional, patient, and clearly very knowledgeable. A huge kudos to Sam, the owner, for fostering such a positive, supportive environment. It really shows in the way the staff treats both the dogs and the humans. There's plenty of parking available on and around the facility, which was a nice bonus. And something that really stood out: the place was remarkably calm and clean. You didn't hear constant barking, and there was no "dog smell" like you get at many other facilities. It gave me so much peace of mind leaving Roscoe there. Since I needed to board him anyway, I enrolled Roscoe in their Board and Train program. He's a lovable little whirlwind--very reactive to other dogs, does whatever he wants, pulls like crazy on walks, and chews anything that doesn't move. Four weeks later, is he still crazy? Yes--but in the best way. What's changed is everything else: no more pulling on walks, no more eating everything in sight, he's learned the "Place" command and follows it beautifully, he's much calmer around other dogs and clearly trying his best A special shoutout to Lia, who was Roscoe's primary trainer. She was incredibly patient and kind, and I could tell Roscoe not only learned a lot but genuinely had fun working with her. After establishing that I wanted to Board & Train my pup while I'm on a weeklong trip, I spent some time doing some online research of the best places around the area and through the beauty of organic search, stumbled upon Ranch Dog Training. I will be honest - one of the factors that drew me to Ranch Dog Training was simply the option to be able to Board & Train for only one week, as many other places had 2 or 3-week minimums (facilities hesitate to accept dogs for just a week as progress is very minimal). The first step to signing my pup up for Board & Train was bringing him in for an assessment ($135), which required him to be up to date with his vaccinations (all the core ones + canine influenza). This was a great first impression as I've experienced other facilities in the past that said they required vaccinations but never followed up for proof. I knew going into this that my Shiba Inu would be a tough one to work with, so when I brought him in for his assessment, I was mentally prepared to be told they wouldn't take him. Manny was the one who worked with our dog and we were even told by Sam (the co-owner/founder) that he stepped in to assist with this evaluation as our Shiba was well.. a Shiba! Kindly enough, The Ranch offered to accept him for Board & Train under a few conditions that I thought were completely fair. One week later, my boy was dropped off and at the end of each day (minus a couple), I received a detailed report card that included a handful of photos and videos, keeping me connected with not just my pup but his progress too, allowing me to provide any feedback I had or any changes I wanted to see in his training. When my partner and I came to pick him up, we had an hour-long go-home session with Manny where we got to see everything they worked on, then were trained to work on the same things ourselves. We practiced the routine indoors, then rounded off the session by taking it outside and each walking our pup up and down the street. Throughout this process from assessment day to the go-home session, Manny did a really great job in walking us through everything and being there for us, answering any questions we had. While the progress may have seemed negligible, we remembered to set our expectations realistically as we only sent our dog here for one week, which is merely even enough time to get started. We love the ranch! I've taken my dog Fizz here a few times for daycare and he always has so much fun! I love looking at the pictures in the report card at the end of the day. One thing I love about the ranch is that they're very intentional with how they introduce new dogs. Fizz is very nervous in new places and they take the time to let him adjust in a playpen before introducing him to the rest of the yard to let loose. It's amazing looking at the pictures from the day. He starts out looking so nervous, and by the end he's having the time of his life! I can tell from the report cards that all the attendants are very caring and have a great understanding of dog behavior. This place is absolutely amazing. First, their proximity to us in west la is amazing. We bring our dog here religiously when my fiancé and I are working long hours. Second, they really know and care about your dog. It's a great way for your dog to burn off some energy and have supervised interaction with other dogs. The trainers we have met have been awesome and truly work so well with Mango. The online booking is easy and they limit the amount of dogs to ensure that they can adequately and safely take care of the dogs they look over. Mango always comes back pretty clean even after playing with all the dogs and I love that they keep on top of us to have all our dog's up to date vaccinations--it makes me feel comfortable that our dog and other dogs are safe and protected. Mango absolutely loves, loves the Ranch. The Ranch is amazing! We did a two-week Board and Train program for our newly adopted and older dog Jax, who was often nervous and sometimes reactive with other dogs while on walks. The trainers first did a full-day assessment of him, and they were so attentive and responsive to his needs and personality. They worked with us to set realistic goals for him (namely, to be more relaxed and confident around other dogs and in public spaces where lots of people may be around). During the Board and Train, the trainers worked with Jax to "top up" his skills, focusing on threshold training, heeling while on a leash, returning when he hears his name, and practicing the "place" command (which will be amazing to use when visitors come over)! At the end of the Board and Train, we did a training session with Mica to practice our skills (we have as much to practice as Jax does!), and she gave responsive and helpful feedback to us throughout. We learned so much from Mica, Sean, and the other kind and smart trainers at The Ranch. In particular, we learned how to show Jax that we are in control so he doesn't think he has to be. This was a really eye-opening learning! We'll keep practicing our skills, and may do a follow-up private training to make sure we're on the right track. The facility is very clean, and the trainers play with the dogs throughout the day. We got photos, helpful training videos, and a "report card" each day, and Jax looked so happy and cared for in them! Mica even gave him a bath on his last day there. I can't recommend The Ranch enough. Whether you have a new puppy, are figuring out a newly adopted dog, or are working through behavioral challenges, they'll provide individualized and responsive care for your dog (and for you)! My dog Barry was boarded/trained for one week at The Ranch. Prior to that, he'd had an assessment and two training sessions with Lia. He has made excellent progress, especially during the week of boarding when he had consistent training mostly with Lia everyday. I received lots of photos and videos during the week which were very helpful in seeing how and to what he was responding, and also how I should interact with him. We are putting all the things we learned into practice at home, and it is going well. The facility is wonderful. Clean, welcoming, safe. I was worried about leaving Barry for a whole week, but he had such a good time (I could see that in the videos), that I would not hesitate to board him with The Ranch again. I first heard of this place when I stumbled across Sam on TikTok. We have a very energetic 6 month old bernedoodle puppy and were in need of some help. Tikka (our puppy) has a wide variety of things we need to work on like leash pulling, play biting, biting, not listening, counter surfing, etc. You name it, we need to work on it. Booking the appointment on their website was a complete breeze and I was able to explain in detail everything that I would need help with. Sam decided to take Tikka on because of the wide variety of things we needed to work on. The training session location is on the top floor of the main building which was very spacious. Sam asked us what we wanted to work on and watched him work with Tikka while he taught us tricks. The session was SO informational and incredibly helpful. We are now working on everything Sam thought us and it's already working. I leave my girl Stormie here to board a few times a year when I go on trips. The staff is great and she seems to always has fun with them. I love the 'report cards' that are texted to me every day while she boards. They include a bunch of photos of my girl playing with the other dogs and a short paragraph about how she's doing, who she's playing with, any problems that arise. The Ranch is the reason I have been able to successfully go back to work since my pandemic adoption. I adopted my pup, Pepper, in the middle of the pandemic. She is extremely reactive and it takes her a very long time to warm up to people, even people she's met many times. However, she is SUPER playful and loves other dogs. These two qualities can make Pepper seem like a bit of a wild card, and I was unable to find a dog walker or a daycare place that could handle a puppy with her very particular needs. However, with 6 weeks of training at The Ranch (4 weeks then 2 weeks ~6 months apart), focusing on basic commands, boundaries, and confidence-building, Pepper is now able to tell the difference between playtime and work time (when I WFH); knows to look to me (or other people she trusts) when she is unsure of a situation or person (rather than cowering or going on the attack); and even will accept treats and pets from new people under the right circumstances - circumstances that The Ranch helped me figure out. 3 months ago we adopted a beautiful 6 month old purebred dogo Argentino from an animal shelter that was going to be euthanized. Since day 1 we knew we wanted to make sure that we as the owners took the proper steps to making sure we started training right away. We enrolled our dog into one on one private lessons, but as time has progressed we knew we needed to take another direction by combining the skills we learned individually to now in the presence of distractions along with proper socialization with other animals. We thought traditional doggie daycare would be the best route, but soon realized that it was actually hindering our growth and causing a slight regression due to the lack of control within the facilities as we soon found out that most are simply, as one owner stated, "a place to take your dog so they don't chew your couch and destroy your house". Well, that's good for some, but not for us. After spending a week visiting MANY facilities and seeing what they had to offer, none of them were really what we were looking for here in Long Beach. We decided to think outside of the box and came across The Ranch, a pet training facility with a doggy daycare that combined the 2 together. This was exactly what we were looking for. We called and spoke to Morgan who explained to us what they provided and how they could help. We said, "SOLD!" And signed nova right up. Yesterday was Nova's first day of daycare training. First thing first, thank you so much Morgan & Sam! What this facility was able to do for us and the feedback they provided us for a better future for our dog far exceeded our expectations. They provided photos of our nova playing, they provided informative videos of what her areas of opportunities are, and how we can make the steps to provide her the best life for not only her, but for us and her friends. They provided us with a full detailed report card with links of the tools we should purchase in order to help nova get on the right track. Upon picking her up, both Morgan and Sam explained her entire day to us person to person in a straight forward and hopeful approach. As dog owners, this is what every facility should provide. Some owners can't handle it, but those same owners can't handle their own dogs by not accepting the reality of owning a dog. From this day forward, we will only be using The Ranch for nova's daycare training facility. We believe that with the knowledge and patience from Morgan & Sam combined with, we as the owners implementing the training we learn from The Ranch, not only at the facility, but in 100% of nova's life, along with Nova's desire to please..... she will become even more of an incredible asset to society and set the example of what could have been her life (your average dog with little to no control) to what her life has now become because of our progress and will continue to become from what we will learn. We have faith, drive, and determination to make this happen. Owning a dog is not just a temporary training process, it's a continuous life long commitment.
