We couldn't be happier to have dogs we can take anywhere thanks to Leonard!
Gabby Z.

Sending a huge thank you to Leonard for all he did to change our dog into one that is able to go anywhere calmly and confidently. Nicky has been home from her training for 6 months and has retained all the lessons Leonard so patiently taught her. I couldn't recommend Leonard more highly!

We came to Leonard as a last resort. After adopting Sundae, our 1-year old Catahoula-Lab mix, this past spring, we were really worried that we were going to have to give her back to the shelter due to her aggressive behavior towards people and dogs. She was extremely fearful of new places/people, she was possessive of us and toys, she had separation anxiety, and she would lunge/growl/nip at people or dogs. She got along well with our other dog, but she would sometimes pester him and get possessive when we showed affection toward him. Before finding Leonard, we went to two different dog trainers, who were unable to help us with the problem. Leonard showed us a completely different approach, and we learned that almost everything we were doing to try to fix the problem (e.g. positive reinforcement, treats) was making it worse. After the initial session with Leonard, we already saw changes in Sundae, and we decided to send her to his bootcamp. We liked that Leonard takes only takes two dogs at a time and that the dogs live with him while going through the bootcamp/rehabilitation. While Sundae was at bootcamp, we met with Leonard for trainings towards the end. This was really helpful because he taught us skills about how to handle her differently. These trainings also gave us more hope and confidence that we would be able to handle her when she came home. Not only did he train her, but he helped us work through our anxiety about handling her. We learned that we have to take control and show our dog that we are the leaders of the pack, and through that we would build trust. Sundae has been home with us for two weeks now, and she is a totally different dog! She is polite, obedient, less anxious/fearful, happier, and most importantly, not aggressive towards people or dogs. Without Leonard's help, her aggression would have likely continued to get worse, and we probably would have had to rid of her or put her down. We are so relieved and happy that she has improved and turned into a really good dog. Thank you, Leonard!

TimTam so comfortable and relaxed with Leonard. He trusted and respected him a lot.

Leonard has literally changed our lives. Our dog was a 1.5 year old anxious, fearful, stressed, aggressive and dominant dog when we handed him off to Leonard. My husband and I were now at a point where we would get stressed and anxious at the thought of taking him outside the house. Don't get me wrong, he was great at the dog park - the friendliest dog in fact! It was only when he was at home or on a leash outside that he would be "difficult". Upon our first visit after 2 weeks Tim Tam already showed so much progress! We walked down Santa Monica 3rd St Promenade and he walked through it with a breeze. We were never able to walk through large crowds before. At the third week mark, we picked up an angel. He was so well behaved. He would walk without tugging. He would stay close to our body when we would walk past anything that used to make him nervous. He was capable of staying on one place until given command to leave. He was a well behaved dog that listened and respected us as his parents to be the alphas of the pack. Throughout the three week period we visited Leonard two times and each time we saw so much growth and change in our pup. Leonard also spent quality time with my husband and I. From all his teaching and tools that he gave us, we ended up learning so much about how we could be better not only ourselves as parents to our pup but also as a couple. We now have so many "tools" which we are continuing to use every so often to help keep our in pup confident, relaxed, and safe. We're so thankful for Leonard - he really changed our lives.

This is Yuki before Dominant Dog Training. Sad eyes, uncertain, and disconnected.

My dream dog had always been a Shiba Inu; Their build, their sass, their loyalty. That being said, I also knew that they were notorious for being extremely stubborn and even harder to train. So when fate presented us with the opportunity to adopt a Shiba Inu puppy from a shelter, I knew right away that we needed to find a damn good trainer. We got Yuki when he was 8 weeks old, and by 6 months, he was a hellion. The time had come to hand him off to a pro. Leonard's intuition with dogs and humans is uncanny. He defiantly knows when you're not being transparent with him. He is an expert at reading body language, and that is why he is an expert at working with dogs. Our biggest concern was that we didn't know how to communicate with Yuki. He would constantly look at us with a blank, disconnected face. He would also constantly whine. We took him to Leonard because we didn't just want a dog, we wanted a life companion. We were hoping that Leonard could teach us how to communicate with Yuki and teach Yuki his general manners. The results that Leonard produced were of supreme excellence. He doesn't focus teaching your dog commands such as sit, stay, and shake, but rather, he focuses on communicating with body language. His process is almost 100% non-verbal, teaching your dog to focused on you, your body movements, and you behavior. Allowing someone to take your dog for three weeks takes a lot of trust, and believe me it was difficult to do. Leonard was great with giving us updates on Yuki via email, phone, and text. We received lots of wonderful photos of Yuki and the achievements he had made. The first week without Yuki was really hard on us, but we knew we had made the right decision as Leonard gave us regular updates on Yuki's progress. By the end of the second week, we were so excited for our 2 hour training session with Leonard and Yuki. When we met for our 2 week check in, Yuki did not bark, whine, run, or jump when he saw us. Instead, he was calm and paying attention to Leonard (this part might break some owner's hearts, but it was still worth it). Leonard showed us all of Yuki's progress which was all non-verbal communication. Yuki was laser focused on Leonard and his body language. We were so impressed. Yuki was a completely different dog; He was happy, focused, and polite. After our 2 week check in, Yuki went back with Leonard for one more week. During this time, Leonard gave us a list of doggie gear that he suggested we get so that we could continue his training once Yuki came home. Here is an example of how in-tune Yuki was with us once he completed his training. This was from one of our email updates to Leonard after he came home. "He did do something that we think was great the other day. Alaina took him outside the house to go potty, and I was moving about and grabbed a drink of water, but I took too big of gulp, and it went down the wrong pipe. I started coughing loudly. Yuki heard me and started barking and lead Alaina inside to check on me. It made us both happy." Thank you Leonard for all your hard work. We know he was a pain in the butt, but you gave us the best dog companion a human could ask for.

My Vizsla boy Milo who was extremely fearful...
Marketa P.

It is always difficult to acknowledge when you do mistakes, but I babied my Vizsla boy so much that I started to have some serious behavioral problems. I tried to deal with the issues myself and with a dog trainer but when my puppy turned 18 months old, I decided to get a SPECIALIST who knows exactly what to do. I looked up on Yelp, Google, Facebook dog groups, etc. and I found Leonard from Dominant Dogs. I called him and we made an appointment three days later. This is how the camp works: You meet Leonard with your dog for a 2-3 hours long session where he decides if he will work with you and your dog. The camp is 3 weeks long. Leonard is very straightforward person and he will tell you honest (not sugarcoated) opinions/facts. Remember, you want to do the best thing for your dog. I was very surprised that he mainly "interviewed" me. We spent together 3 hours and we spoke about my life, my lifestyle, my background, my experiences and expectations and YES about my dog. It made me think and realize that it is just as much about you, the "pet parent" as it is about your dog. Leonard is in constant contact with you. You are getting emails, pictures and videos every day and you can always call Leonard and he will tell you what is going on, how your baby is doing, what they do/did that day, how the dog responding to the training... For example, Leonard took my boy at Venice beach skate park (my dog has always had issues with bikes, skateboards, birds scooters). Another day Leonard took my dog to busy and crowded Santa Monica Third Street Promenade (I received an awesome video). I couldn't believe how much less fearful my dog already was after such a short time with Leonard. After two weeks of separation (yes, you cannot see or visit your dog) you have another training session with Leonard - another 2-3 hours. You basically going over the 2 weeks of training, Leonard will show you how to handle better your dog, what did you do wrong, what you should do better, how to react to your dog etc. The hard part of this whole process is to get ready for the arrival of your pup. After three weeks you have another 2-3 hours of training and then you are taking your pup home with you. The main thing is to trust Leonard and NOT to repeat bad habits. If you choose this camp and start process with Leonard, you must know, that his knowledge about dogs helped me understand what was behind my dog's behavior. Leonard is very connected with animals and has had much success because he does not work only with the dogs but with the pet parent as well to be stronger leader. Update: I have my dog home for a week now and he is doing just so well. I am so grateful for all the training and advices which Leonard shared, provided and taught me. We have another follow up training next week and I know my pup will be so happy to see him because they created such a special connection.

Heather completely exceeded every expectation I had for Charlie's 3 week off leash training program. Truly one of the best investments I've ever made for both of us. Charlie came home not only incredibly well trained, but genuinely HAPPY, confident, calm, and so clearly loved and cared for during his stay. That mattered the most to me. You can tell immediately when someone treats dogs like family instead of just a job, and Heather absolutely does. Before training, Charlie struggled with pulling, consistency, and focus. Now he walks beautifully, responds off leash, listens reliably, and honestly seems more relaxed and fulfilled overall. The transformation is kind of unbelievable. Heather also kept me updated throughout the process, answered my anxious dog mom questions with patience, and made me feel completely comfortable trusting her with my baby. The amount of care, structure, professionalism, and knowledge she brings is rare. If you're on the fence about training, do it. And if you're looking for someone trustworthy, skilled, loving, and genuinely exceptional at what they do, HEATHER IS YOUR GIRL !! Charlie came back better trained than I imagined possible, and still completely himself: goofy, loving, joyful, and thriving. I could not recommend her more highly.

Prior to training, Xavier struggled with leash pulling, jumping, excessive barking, anxiety, and maintaining focus when he was excited. He could also be quite stubborn. After working with Heather, he now understands and responds to structured commands such as heel, break, heel-to-sit, heel-to-extended sit, and heel-to-down and what impressed us most was how receptive and engaged he was with her commands during the handoff session. Heather's approach is firm but kind, extremely structured, and highly intentional. She took the time to tailor the training to Xavier's personality rather than applying a one-size-fits-all method. Throughout the entire stay, she was also very communicative, providing daily updates through a dedicated blog, along with photos or videos and details about how much he was eating each day. That level of transparency made it easy to trust that Xavier was not only being trained, but genuinely cared for. When Xavier was returned to us, Heather conducted a formal, hands-on training session with my cousin and me to ensure we understood everything he had learned. She was patient, thorough, and happy to reiterate techniques as needed, which made us feel confident continuing the training at home. While we know ongoing reinforcement will be important especially since not everyone was present for the initial return; we feel well-equipped thanks to her guidance. Most importantly, we trusted Heather completely with Xavier and would absolutely leave him in her care again. I would strongly recommend Heather and OffLeash SoCal to anyone looking for a trainer who is professional, compassionate, and truly invested in long-term results.

Within the first week we discovered our new member was extremely anxious (she escaped once and was gone for hours), was up through the night and not housebroken. This prompted us to connect with Dee where we collaborated on our goals together, and set our focus on reducing anxiety, potty and crate training, and teaching hand signals to keep our pup from bolting out the door. Two months later, we are THRILLED to report that our puppy's anxiety levels are down dramatically, she is 99% potty trained, fully crate trained and sleeping through the night and not a single attempt at an escape. An added bonus is seeing the benefit all of this has had on our other dogs and how quickly the puppy and cat were able to integrate. We did our meetings with Dee over FaceTime, starting at 3 to 4 times a week, and naturally decreasing as Dee's program was so effective. Dee is extremely knowledgeable, provides clear instruction, and has a way of explaining situations from a dog's perspective that makes it easy to understand the interventions. Scheduling time with her was easy. We greatly appreciated her being firm about following guidelines because it kept us on track. However, she is also understanding and flexible when we expressed needing adjustments based on our own lifestyle or goals for our family. We have a calm and cohesive family and are beyond grateful for Dee who was integral in this process.

Unfortunately, this place was a HUGE disappointment and had a huge negative impact on our pup. Long story short -- Everything here is a sales grab. I had a whole conversation about their unethical sales pitching with the employee while picking up my dog lol. It's "how they keep the place open" - the employee's words, not mine. Astounding. Said employee also asked what I did for a living because I questioned their sales pitch tactics -- I'm in sales. Also, If you need their VIP services for your unspayed or neutered pup, please spend your money elsewhere!! Before committing to a membership, we did a trial day and spent hundreds on drop in days, grooming, and overnight boarding to see if it was a good fit for our high energy pup. Our dog is not neutered and we don't plan on getting him neutered so we chose their VIP rooms. His breed is also extremely high energy and they promised they could accommodate. I also inquired about training multiple times and they kept saying the trainer would contact me. Everything went great after those few visits, they seemed caring and said he was a great fit for a membership so we end up signing up. Then everything went downhill. Upon the first day of the membership, our dog all of a sudden had behavior issues and needed to be picked up. In the middle of my work day I call the shift manager, and he states that if we want our dog to stay, he needs training ... (from their same trainer that I've inquired 3x about before committing to a membership, still haven't heard back). I asked why this wasn't communicated ever before committing to a membership and they didn't have an answer. I informed them that I would've paid for training before committing to a membership if they would've let me know that there were any issues. Our dog went a couple of more times until they could finally get me in touch with the trainer, 6 visits later. Actually I had lost complete trust at this facility. To add insult to injury, I was able to speak to one of their actual workers that is with the dogs and she let me know that our dog is only let out for about 10 minutes at a time, maybe 3 to 4 times a day during a 12 hour stay. This is their VIP option. So not only is he left in a room for about 12 hours a day, with dogs barking all around him, he's not being stimulated nor played with just being let out to go to the bathroom. Contradicting everything they say that they offer. Their "trainer" is also a joke. He is supposed to be from the Marines and well-versed in the breed of dog that we have. Upon washing him for 5 minutes, as I was told, he said that our dog needed to be neutered before he could be trained because of his energy. Our dog is a Malinois and is not supposed to be neutered before 2 years of age. We've since went elsewhere to get our dog trained from someone who is actually educated on his breed and he's worked on all of his anxiety and reactivity issues that our pup got because of this place.
