We found this place by chance and so walked in without reservations. They initially turned us away…read morebut with further discussion and a few cocktails at the bar eventually made room to accommodate us. As with many cases this season they were very short staffed and trying to offer good service to those that had made reservations. Our server had several tables including one of 16 people. I can't believe how good the service ended up being with Karen our waitress. As a seasoned vet in this Industry she was on top of everything. Additionally the food was Breyer than I had hoped for. We all started with the salad bar which was clean and organized. They did end up running out of ranch dressing which was a disappointment but that was the only thing that fell short the entire evening. After the salads the four of us has the French onion soup which was better than most I've had. This was followed by our main course. Two of us has the 10 oz. Fillets, on had the 16oz ribeye and lastly one liver and onions. All the steaks were fabulous and the liver was also good from what I hear. There was no rushing, Karen our server timed out servings perfectly and the evening turned out spectacular. A big kudos to the Manager for getting us in. This will be a part of our rotation moving forward. Don't forget to make reservations!

First off, this was one of the best restaurants in Rhinelander back in the day. One of my mother's…read moreand my favorite years ago. I recently moved back to Rhinelander and had to check it out again. The place looks the same which I love. Our waitress was nice and attentive. We waited for over an hour for our food and there were only about 10 customers. I had the salmon with risotto. The end of it was fishy tasting and the risotto was mushy. The other two at my table ordered their alfredo. They liked theirs, but when I looked at it, I wouldn't have liked the spiral noodle they used. I felt they were overpriced too.

Fortunately the cashier immediately recognized our confusion and inquired, "Is this your first time here?" And then quickly, but clearly, she explained their system which included placing your order with her and then picking it up at one of their prep stations, or selecting something from their readymade options and then returning to pay at the cashier's counter. Now that I know how it works, our next visit will be a breeze. We were looking for a light lunch so I decided to go with a freshly prepared sandwich - an avocado egg salad sandwich on toasted whole wheat. It was really green - which might not be the most appetizing color for an egg salad - but the balance of egg, avocado and herbs (including cilantro) was just right. The salad was creamy and well seasoned. The bread was under-toasted - I like to see some nice golden-brown on the surface and not just a toasted texture on a slice of bread. My dining companion took a readymade Italian sandwich which he enjoyed. While it skewed generic, it was obviously prepared the day it was sold. All in all we were satisfied with our lunch. Now that I know their system, I'm anxious to return to try the rest of their menu. While my initial rating is "average," that could easily go up. Especially because we don't have many classic deli options in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. BTW - the deli restaurant is integrated with a full service bar which is accessible through a portal into the next door building. I'll have to check that out later.

I ordered a six piece chicken tender basket with white gravy and upgraded to a chocolate malt with extra, extra, extra malt powder. The tenders were crispy, not greasy and the white gravy was hot, not room temperature. My malt took me waaaay back to my childhood, the way a malt should taste. If you love the flavor of a malted milk ball you will love the Dairy Queen on Lincoln Street. My husband ordered one too but he's not that fond of a malt. He couldn't believe how delicious a chocolate malt could taste. I told him only Dairy Queen knows how to make a malt. The person at the register asked me, do you want extra, or extra extra or extra extra extra malt powder? Three times the charm. This Dairy Queen is the place families gather for great food and conversation. It's the high school hang out, or where anyone looking for a nostalgic memory of the 1950's malt shoppe with the best food and of course malts. The decor has been updated since the 50's and it definitely rates a 10 in cleanliness. I highly recommend stopping at the Rhinelander Dairy Queen on Lincoln Street, you will not be disappointed. The Rhinelander Dairy Queen checks all the boxes.

I opened the sandwiches to see that the pickles had been peeled out of the barely melted cheese.
