If you want to pick up groceries and have a few select speciality items this is the place to go they have EVERYTHING. - The ambiance is like going to a broken family gathering, you are never really sure where you stand & most likely YOU will never know. - I do my best to give them my best customer, they do their best to give me their worst service. They are uninterested. - The vibe is "just pay for your groceries and gtfo." Selection -- lots of selection, lots of items. Lots of beautiful fresh fruit, the biggest selection I've ever seen. - staff -- knows absolutely nothing about the amazing products and produce they have. They won't even look at you when you say hi, even if you've been in there like more than 10 times. They hate you, they hate me. They give the "go away why am I here kinda vibe" I hate how I feel shopping at this place but they have everything I need so I shop here but only once a week my heart, my ego, my emotions can't take anymore than this. I do hope in the future they make some changes because this is a lovely place with lovely items and the staff should be educated on the wonderful farmers and food they sell because it's truly amazing and truly tragic that they don't have a clue. Normally I would give Golden Harvest four or five stars. You can get things here that are not available elsewhere in the area. Some examples: Bulk spices, bonito flakes, corn husks for tamales. organic fruits and veggies, birch and king oyster mushrooms, and a whole lot more. But as the COVID pandemic reared it's ugly head I was dismayed to find that employees were not masking, nor were customers expected to respect COVID protocols such as masking and physically distancing. Of all the places in the north woods of Wisconsin, I would have expected an establishment focusing on organic foods and healthy products to be at the forefront of implementing safe policies during a potentially deadly epidemic. There are dive bars in the area doing a better job than Golden Harvest. If things have changed since my last visit, I hope someone lets me know comments. Otherwise I'm not inclined to return anytime soon. And these days you can always order your bonito flakes on line. read more

It's been awhile since the pandemic & masking protocols, but given the comments expressing surprise that a "health food store" would be so contemptuous of public health (& the law at the time) - thought I'd provide some insight. The owners are extremely conservative Mennonites who only stumbled onto the health & organic aspect of their business (leading to their incredible success). They were initially focused primarily in buying bulk & repackaging from their small store on Coon Street. The only reason they started offering organic & other "healthly" products was because customers kept requesting them. They have no respect for the environment. They're of the mind-set that God gave them nature & animals explicitly for their use & have little inherent value other than for them to exploit & destroy as they see fit. My daughter worked for them for several years. They look down upon those that are not uber religious. They see their employees as disposable. The owner actually commented that "you people are a dime a dozen"...'you people' being a reference to average folks that aren't obsessively religious & why treating her & others fairly, (& even as human beings) wasn't necessary. To them, most of us are just cash cows whom they hold in utter contempt but are forced to tolerate. All that said, I can't deny that they provide an impressive breadth & depth of products that would not normally be expected in Northern Wisconsin & is actually larger than many "Co-op" type stores in large cities. Lots of homewares/gifts etc - huge summer greenhouse & garden center in summer & into Autumn. Great bakery/deli & cafe (sandwiches, home-made soups, salads etc). In summary, despite my disdain for the owners, this store provides a benefit to my life & I am greatful to have it, therefore, I continue to participate in a symbiotic & mutually contemptuous relationship. read more

Stopped in the other day and picked up Carrot Bars and Pumpkin Bars. You have a new receipe or baker. So much better than the last times I purchased them. Very moist with better cream cheese frosting. This time there was enough frosting to cover the bars, not a light amount that hardly covered the bars that were also very unevenly baked, low on one side and high on another. Soooo delicious, the only place in town for good bakery items. Very friendly staff too. read more

We were excited to go to this store since we are new to the area and wanted to support a local business that sold healthy, organic food. Walked in and saw that no one was wearing face masks with the exception of a young cashier. We asked her why they were not enforcing the mandate and she said the owners wouldn't make masks mandatory. So, I guess the owners decision to sell healthy food and serve God somehow translates to not caring about the health of others. We left without shopping and will never return. Won't support a business that does not support science and the health of others. read more

Someone said the prices here were high... only on some strange things. Coming from a larger city, I was impressed by the selection and prices. A liter of coconut water for around $3? That's quite a bargain, actually. But a small package of "ham and pickle pinwheels" (ham and pickle rolled in tortilla and sliced into six small pieces) will set you back five dollars. Weird. Lots to see, good looking produce, interesting brands. My only complaint- (I work in the grocery industry, so I am biased, I suppose- and I was here with my mother, who I'm visiting and whom I adore and am protective of.) I get it, I get it. You're a teenage checkout girl. But look, if your lane is empty and you see an older woman unloading her entire cart onto the counter next to you where she'll be waiting, call her to your lane. Don't just stand and watch her and then talk about how your back really hurts today. No offense, but nobody cares about your back. What they care about is feeling like the employees are considerate to their needs. With very small and simple actions, this store could go from an ok shopping experience to a great one- because sadly, although everything was great, that final checkout experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Be nice to my mom, dammit. ps. I did not get a creepy cult vibe at all, like someone else mentioned. Kinda disappointed, actually. I love this store, and I travel 70 miles about once a month to go there. The new store is fantastic! They have a fabulous selection of foods that are not available in the grocery store in my home town. Anyone who says the prices are super expensive have not shopped much out in the area outside of northern WI! They have a wonderful bakery, and I adore their "Hodag Bread" which is a nutty, seedy, fruity bread that is my go to toast in the morning when I have it. They have an excellent selection of organic produce as well. I think it is a great place to shop in, very clean, well organized and well stocked. They have many specialty items and also have a lot of bulk foods, so you have a lot of options. I have all good things to say about this wonderful group of people! read more

I lived in Rhinelander for a year and this place was my savior. It has delicious, healthy food. The atmosphere is great and the staff is very friendly. If you're stopping through town and looking for a great place to buy food this is it for your breads(AMAZING), desserts, veggies, fruits and condiments. Visited today for the first time. Spent 5 minutes in the store looking around. I was really excited to see they had a la carte sandwiches, and their selection looked great. Out of all the 12 or so workers I saw, only 1 was wearing a mask. Customers also not wearing masks. They sell mask there though. Workers making sandwiches without a mask. Stocking fresh produce without gloves or a mask. It felt unsanitary. I felt like I was in a petri disc. I don't understand why they will not mandate mask for customers and employees. This is the least they could do to protect their fellow employees and customers. Also, from a business aspect - keeping their doors open for operation without having employees get sick and possibly need to shut their doors. I wish I could shop here, but I will not. Cannot support a business that takes an illogical approach in terms of safety and sanitation. read more

Great to have a health conscious grocery in northern Wisconsin which is such a beautiful area. Although it exhibits the Whole Earth model, there are some fair deals to be found here, especially in produce. While I cannot say that I'm enamored with the store, it is a godsend in its location and the breadth of offerings. And it's super easy to access. It's directly at the corner of Hwy 8 and county road G. Heading west on 8, you simply turn right and then left into their generously sized parking lot. read more

I hadn't been back to Rhinelander in about six years. My mom told me about this "health foods store" so I wanted to check it out since it wasn't there the last time I visited. First things first, the prices are terrific. Especially if you are buying anything in bulk. Second, I like that they offer tons and tons of specialty items that are hard to find (gluten free, organic, bulk items, etc). New location, new store, similar or better prices than comparable stores (i.e. Whole Foods or organic version of Trader Joes) from Phila area of Northeast. Excellent produce, fresh bakery items and better selection of many organic brands (Annie's) than we often see. Wide selection of the better quality teas. If we pass through Rhinelander again, this definitely will be our first stop. read more
