Fumie's Cakes is an online order bakery without a storefront. Based on older reviews, they did have a storefront previously and sold individual cake slices, but not anymore. From their website, they now sell whole cakes, whole tarts, cupcakes, cookies, and cream puffs. The baker is an East Asian lady. Her cakes are in the "not too sweet" category of desserts. If you like your cakes American sweet, this is NOT the place for you. Ordering was a breeze via the website. Deciding which one to buy was more difficult. After ordering, I received an order acknowledgment. On my chosen day of pickup, I received an email saying my cake is ready at the time frame I requested. Per instructions, upon arrival, I called the number provided. She came out with my cake. She shares the kitchen space with Twelve Baskets Catering. The hours are stated on her website. I ultimately decided on a standard cake - strawberry shortcake. The 8" is $51. She uses freshly whipped cream for the frosting instead of heavy buttercream. She told me she made the cake that morning. Super fresh! The cake has two layers of vanilla cake. Strawberries in whipped cream line the mid-layer. The cake part is spongier than many other Chinese cakes, which I now understand is the source for some of the negative comments about the cake being ugly (smashed, destroyed) when cut. Using a serrated knife with a saw motion will help minimize that. Taste wise, all nine of us thought the mild sweet taste, fresh fruits, freshly whipped cream, with a sponge cake that has more "body" was a winning combination. It has a slightly drier texture. We like the bite and slight chew of the spongier cake. I don't think everyone will like this texture. Surprisingly, all nine of us liked it. Two people (both non-Asian) got seconds. Thumbs up.
I had high hopes for the cake as it had all the right ingredients, but unfortunately it felt short. It looked good and had chocolate and hazelnuts (as an addition) which I love and it wasn't too sweet - I'd preferred it a bit sweeter. The owner was nice and communicated well. Some of the shortcomings; when we were cutting the cake, the slices were breaking in crumbs and it did not look good. The layers of cake were dry, maybe more cream could have helped. The chocolate icing on the outside was too hard and dense and people did not eat it.
I had really high hopes for this place but it kinda fell short. We ordered a cake here for my dad's birthday and the ordering process was pretty easy. Pick up was also pretty easy, and price was pretty reasonably too. We ordered the tiramisu matcha cake. The cake looks good, but it was not good. The matcha on top was so thick and bitter that it overpowered everything. And not sure what else they put on top the it makes it stick to the roof of the mouth. The rest of the cake was ok and wasn't too sweet and a little dry. Lastly, they wrote the happy birthday sign for us on this little plaque. I thought it was pretty clean and neat and thought it was chocolate. When I took a bite into it though, it was basically fondant but not good fondant. Overall, it was ok but most likely not going to be back
Delicious cake! Prompt customer service and reliable. We had the strawberry short cake and loved it. The actual cake could be a little more moist but overall it was delicious and not overly sweet! I'll be back for more!
Have ordered the strawberry short cake as well as the chocolate short cake. Both were yum with the right amount of sweetness. They were quite soft and moist.
Lovely Birthday Cake! I love the simple fruit toppings. Such a lite touch. Pickup was a breeze.
After my last experience, the owner reached out and I decided to give Fumie's another try. I was very impressed. PROS: - Amazing customer service! More businesses in North America can learn a thousand things from the Japanese when it comes to quality of service. I find most businesses here are lazy but Fumie's is an exception. - The owner cares so much about her customers enjoying her cakes and liking her products it kinda blew me away. She was polite and friendly and greeted me with a big smile which made me want to go back again. - The purple yam cake was incredible, I can't wait to order it again! The custard in the middle was heaven. - The prices are fantastic. Fumie's caters to the masses. In true Japanese style of beauty and convenience, all her baked goods are customizable and come in all sizes. I'm happy with how quickly and amicably Fumie's resolved my issues. I highly recommend this wonderful business to anyone looking for tasty treats and top notch service.
Love this little Japanese cake shop. And I found out yesterday they are temporarily closed, but turned out they are moving to Kirkland? No detailed information seems posted on the website... Wherever they open next, I'll sure visit.
Fumie san is an amazing baker. I was searching for Japanese birthday cakes. By fortune, I found her on Yelp and all the positive reviews about this place is true. I emailed her and she called me to talk about what I had in my mind. She suggested certain type of cake to uphold the fondant decorations. A Strawberry shortcake is such a typical Japanese birthday cake and I loved it very much. She suggested right cake size for the amount of guest I had. In addition, I ordered the Japanese green tea tiramisu cake and sugar crunchy cookies. The cake got so much attention and I am so glad to have found this place on yelp. I cannot wait for the next event or a party where I can take the cake as a souvenir.
A small coffee and cake spot right across from the downtown Bellevue park! I was taking my dog on a walk at the park and walked passed Fumie's Gold. Not sure what it was, I decided to check it out and saw there was a collection of small dessert items in the case, as well as a coffee and tea menu. Since I wasn't hungry, I only ordered a Matcha Latte. I asked for it to have no sweetener, which the employee was happy to do. In fact, the matcha latte was quite good and enjoyed how strong the matcha flavor was! I will have to definitely come back for dessert! It seems to be the spot for it, as there were two other customers who came in after me, picking up a cake that they had ordered. Good to know that this place offers that service! Fumie's Gold is a solid option for getting a drink and dessert while on the go, as there is no seating inside. It's easy to get to in downtown Bellevue, and I especially like that it's so close to the park, a place where you can enjoy your newly-purchased treats from here! I shall be back.
ORDER the Chocolate Strawberry Shortcake!! The cake is moist, not too sweet, and comes w/fresh strawberries. The frosting is just light. I've had this cake the last 2 years for my birthday, and it's amazing!
I'm happy to have found a great bakery that caters towards lighter, less sweet Asian style cakes. For so long, my go to has been Regent bakery for cakes but Fumie's offers more unique flavors (black sesame, matcha, ube) at a similar price point (~$40 for 8 inch cake). We tried the ube cake which was delicious! Pieces of ube, fresh whipped cream, and a delicious custard between two layers of vanilla sponge with more ube on top. Sponge could have been more delicate/moist but the flavors were on point. Ordering online was easy, their building was a little hard to find (not a storefront, be sure to order 24 hrs in advance!). Can't wait to try more of their cakes.

We ordered the chocolate mousse cake for a birthday. The cake was fresh, light, and not overly sweet, which we appreciated. That said, the cake we received was quite different from the photo shown on the website. The listing showed a smooth, mousse-style cake with clean sides, but what we received was more of a sponge cake with cream layers and a different overall finish. It still tasted good, but the mismatch in appearance and structure was unexpected. I'd recommend clarifying the style when ordering so expectations are aligned. read more
1/11/2025 I ordered a blueberry yogurt cake from Fumie's Gold Cake in Kirkland for my husband's birthday, and it was an absolute delight! The cake was beautifully crafted, with a perfect balance of sweetness and tartness from the blueberries. The yogurt added a lovely, light texture that made each bite melt in your mouth. My husband was thrilled with his birthday cake. I highly recommend Fumie's Gold Cake for any special occasion. Their attention to detail and dedication to quality truly set them apart. read more

My mom has celiac so finding a place with gluten free alternatives is hard! Fumies cakes has not just gluten free cakes but they are some of the best gluten free cakes I've ever had! The cake is fluffy and full of flavor! I cannot recommend this place enough for folks who need a gluten free alternative! read more

My wife loves Japanese strawberry cakes, and I wanted to get her one for her birthday. I immediately thought of Fumie, as I had tried her cakes back when she had the Fumie's Gold store in downtown Bellevue. Fumie was flexible with my order, providing a quick turnaround and also working with me for a late pickup time. The cake was cute and delicious, and my wife loved it! read more

Ordered a strawberry shortcake for mother's day. The cake is super pretty and well decorated! I really like the taste of the cake, it's bouncy and not too soft. It is slightly different than a strawberry shortcake you get from the basement bakery in Japanese departmental store. Those are super light and fluffy and I personally think they are kinda artificial. This, tasted home made and natural, which I much preferred! Fumie is super sweet and she is quick to respond to email or phone call. I can't wait to get their cheesecake or Mont blanc for my birthday! read more

Ordered a red bean "Azuki" cake for my traditional Korean mother. We all enjoyed it very much. Four stars for care put into making it and tasting homemade and not too sweet. Docking a star bc cake itself wasn't melt-in-your-mouth as I've been spoiled by many Japanese cakes, thus expect any Japanese place to meet that standard?? Hate me maybe but 'tis my honest review. read more

I ordered 2 cakes for friends' birthday with less than the standard 1 week notice. I was able to get the freshly made cakes in time !!!! The owner/baker made the phenomenal ube Mont Blanc cake and green tea tiramisu cake !!! The purple ube cake, filled with moderately sweet ube paste/ custard in between the delicate soft sponge cakes, was especially memorable!!! Fumie's Cake will be my place to call when I need special cakes for the special occasions read more

Not a whole lot of Japanese bakeries around. I had really good Japanese desserts at sweet raku in Vegas and was hoping to find something like that here. It's not exactly the same, but I still liked it! I expect japanese desserts to be (like at sweet raku) lighter and less sweet. Fumie's Gold wasn't too heavy or sweet, but still more so than my expectation. Good thing I'm totally ok with regular non-Asian desserts too soooo all was good. Best green tea mousse cake I've ever had! Very good on green tea flavor. Most of the other ones I've had doesn't even taste like green tea. 5 stars, unless I find something else that beats it! I also had the tiramisu in a cup. That was pretty dang good too! You can really taste the coffee, not so much the rum, but that's ok. One of the better tiramisus that I've had. 4 stars. Overall 5 star place because the desserts were yummy and id come back to try more or get these again! read more

I was a little confused about how to order online, so I called the store and they got back to me right away! After I placed my order they emailed to confirm my order and delivery time - they were able to accommodate next day delivery and I was impressed at the quick turnaround! The cake itself was a hit! I requested a carrot cake for my boyfriends birthday through the website and Fumie was very responsive. Due to COVID, only one person is allowed in to pick up their order at a time so I waited outside for a few mins which was no problem. The cake was delicious! Sweet bits of carrot and delicious, creamy frosting. I'm a big fan of Japanese style sweets and Fumie was very responsive and professional :) I'll definitely be trying more in the future! read more
