I am so angry!!! I placed a cake order WEEKS ago and when I show up, they are closed! Closed before their posted hours, might I add. I didn't receive a call OR email indicating that they would need to close so now I get to show up to a birthday party that I AM HOSTING without a cake. Do not order from here. I had them create my 60th Birthday cake! Everyone RAVED about this cake - how beautiful it was, and how tasty it was! It was vanilla and raspberry and then Vanilla with fruit. These ladies are so kind! I know nothing about cakes or what to do, and they were able to put together my vision perfectly! If I have another party, this is the bakery I would go to. My mom and I ordered my birthday cake from here. I am a very picky eater and told my mom I wanted a chocolate cake with fresh strawberries and ganache in the shape of a heart. I sent her a picture of what I wanted, and she was able to work with Pooja and her team to deliver exactly what I had envisioned, both in look and flavour. When we picked up the cake, her team went above and beyond adding glitter sparkles to make it even more dazzling. I was so excited to see my cake in person because it turned out exactly how I wanted. We told Pooja we were serving ten guests and the cake was more than enough for all of them. We even had cake leftover which meant the party didn't stop. While we didn't eat in the store, the location was so aesthetically pretty and perfect for taking cute bakery photos. Ordered the red velvet cupcake and my friend ordered the butter croissant. The butter croissant was very sad. It was not a traditional flaky croissant and it was quite small. This was my first time branching out to a new bakery for a custom cake. I ordered a smash cake for my daughter's first birthday about a month prior. Team was very responsive via email with my requests. It was a bit pricier than what I had hoped to pay for a smash cake but the flavor and texture of the cake surprisingly turned out much better than I expected. The cake was moist and not too dense. Flavor of both the frosting and cake were tasty and received positive remarks from my family. The only thing I would knit pick on is that the ears turned out looking a little more elf-ish than how Hello Kitty's look but that's something nobody else noticed but myself. Okay apparently this is a pretty famous place if you want to make customized cakes. However bear in mind you need to pre order which can be up to 2 weeks in advance and they do only circular or standard shaped customizations. This bakery is decently sized given it's downtown location and has a nice aroma to it.If you have special requests definitely look for a lady named "Monica" - she is amazing to talk to and she will give some very good recommendations for the occasion. I really wanted to like these overpriced cup cakes. They looked absolutely stunning decoratively but tasted so awful. I ordered the lemon blueberry which was tolerable and the only cupcake that had any real flavor. The chocolate chocolate cupcake tasted so awful, overly sweet with the stiffest frosting known to man. I could cement a brick wall behind my house with the icing, yes it was that dense and thick and with 0 flavor but the pungent sugar profile. I ordered their strawberry cupcake which the icing was a huge improvement over the chocolate chocolate but it was still very lacking in flavor. Their coconut cupcake was too dense with zero flavor as well. The frosting on the coconut was also very dense and too sugary. Yes I understand these are cupcakes and sugar is absolutely allowed, but so much that I felt like I had stuffed my face with only sugar and no other complimentary flavors like carrot, chocolate or strawberry? No, this is a poor execution of a cupcake that was way overpriced for its final delivery. I highly do not recommend this place for quality and delicious cupcakes. Delicious Cake experience! We were looking for a Lion King themed cake but had no idea how it should look like! We loved their suggestion We went home to realize that our cake might be much larger than we need. We called them the next day, they happily reduced the size and gave us store credit for the difference. Also, while ordering the cake, the baker answered all our questions and gave us suggestions. We used sugar n flakes for our wedding cake in October 2024. We did our cake tasting in April 2024 which is pictured below. The whole experience was amazing and delicious. The cake was truly incredible at the tasting and our wedding. It tasted exactly the same. They made it so easy to work with them to set up a tasting and do some additional flavor combos we wanted to try. You can tell this is a local family owned place, the woman we worked with was the same through the whole process. We dropped off the decorations the week of the wedding and the cake was delivered on time. I didn't get any pictures on my phone of the cake, only the professional ones which we haven't gotten back yet. But it looked beautiful. Everyone devoured the chocolate cake and we had leftover coconut cake to take home. We've been back for cupcakes too since the wedding. I absolutely adore Sugar n Flakes bakery Time and time again they have been a big hit when I bring them in for get togethers as dessert. The lemon blueberry cream cheese cupcake is my absolute favorite! It's flavors are so well balanced and the textures are spot on. I also appreciate that they are accommodating to allergies with gluten-free and vegan cupcakes! My cousin is allergic to gluten and my best friend is allergic to dairy. Both have raved about their cupcakes when I bring them over. Just make sure to call ahead if you need either option. Sometimes they can run out of one or the other, that being said they will do their best to accommodate. All in all I really love this bakery and have found myself coming back again and again. We wanted to get coffee while we were waiting for our appointment at Deep Roots, but unfortunately they don't serve that there. The gal behind the counter kindly informed us that they only had cupcakes for retail sales. Since we were celebrating a birthday, we went ahead and bought one. I ordered a cake for $385 to serve 50 guests but the guest count was around 150 people. Unfortunately, the cake was a huge disappointment. The taste and texture were very bad, and most guests didn't even eat it. When I informed them, they said all cakes from the same batch were fine and mentioned they had tried a new syrup for the butterscotch flavor -- but it tasted terrible. So disappointed in the end product! How can they even give the customer such bad looking product. If the car was tough to make using fondant, they should have told me so. They asked me if I would get a toy car OR would I need a fondant car. Fondant car would cost 20 bucks more. I chose the later. I agree the cake will be "similar" and not same as the model. But it should at-least look like a car right ?! My kid asked me if I had a RED RAT on the Cake instead of Lightning McQueen. Keeping the car aside, even the fondant work was very clumsy and the piping was crooked. I am going to give them 1star for the taste which was better than a Safeway cake. Chocolate Vanilla Cupcake: simple! Vanilla Birthday Boy Cupcake: bright blue and good. Vanilla Chocolate Cupcake: delicious! Other ones that are a hit at my parties! Coconut Creamcheese Cupcake Carrot Creamcheese Cupcake Chocolate Mint Cupcake Pink Champagne Cupcake: the best one! You can't go wrong with cupcakes. Both adults and my friend's kids like them. We were the only customers in the bakery for breakfast. There were two people working behind the counter and it took over 30 minutes to make 2 avocado toasts. 20 minutes in, we asked how long it would be, they said 10 minutes more. For just TWO pieces of toast. They work painfully slow. Their service is very slow, and the avocado toast is very expensive... $13 a piece. Once we got out food, the pieces were very small. The avocado on the toast was INEDIBLE. it was so unripe, it was crunchy. Could barely even chew it. I essentially paid $13 for a tiny piece of toast. The meal said it would come with "oven roasted potato chips", it came with a bag of LAYS CHIPS. Not even the fancy actual oven roasted ones, the normal, plain bag of chips. Ordered a coffee, it came out AFTER the toast, 35 minutes after ordering, and they forgot to put milk in it that I ordered. Coffee itself was awful too. Nothing could have saved it. Lukewarm at best. We even provided over $100+ worth of huckleberries. 1. Huckleberry basket cake: did not match or even come close to the cake image that was provided. They didn't even use the same colors or try to create the notable traditional weave on the basket. 2. Huckleberry branch cake: the image was provided as inspiration and we were hoping for buttercream leaves. They mentioned it had to be printed due to timing, which is fine... but why was the image not centered on the cake and why wasn't the copyright line cropped out?? At least you should ask/confirm. Also, the huckleberries were so sparsely scattered, despite tons of leftovers. Ended up being an embarrassing cake, but funny story that we can laugh about now.
