I was referred to HomeWell Care Services in Lake Forest and spoke with the owner, Ines Eisner, MD, PhD, who immediately grasped our situation and offered a viable plan. I was impressed by her professionalism, knowledge, and sensitivity and felt like I was speaking with a personal friend. Ines visited my husband at rehab, and then met me at our home to inspect the setting and offer suggestions to facilitate recovery. On the morning of my husband's discharge, Ines met us at the Whitehall and introduced us to our lovely new caregiver, Noreen, whom I soon referred to as our "Guardian Angel." Noreen moved into our home for two weeks, assisting my husband with all of his needs on the road to full recovery while simultaneously helping me around the house. Rehabilitation impacts not only the patient, but the entire family. Noreen was invaluable, maintaining a very positive and cheerful attitude -- she was tireless and couldn't do enough. She cares for my dad from 8 pm to 8 am four nights a week. She provides toileting help, dressing and undressing, and all mobility and transfer help she does it with grace and care of the details. What we like most is how much she engages with dad. Dad is 93 with advanced Parkinson's, and some heart issues. They talk about the past, sing songs together. My mom lives in the Northwest Suburbs and we finally decided that she could no longer "do it…read morealone". We had gone through a lot with my dad before he passed away and so we knew what we wanted and what we didn't. Unfortunately, the informal network we used for my dad didn't have women caregivers so we were back to to square one. After doing a lot of research with the local senior center and online we called For Papa's Sake, which is based out of the town next to where my mom lives. From the very first phone call I suspected we had gotten lucky. After a couple of calls and some group discussion between me, my mom and a For Papa's Sake senior person we decided we'd try them out. And am I glad we did. They listened to my mom's and my requests, likes, dislikes, deal-breakers etc. and they never batted an eye. They did say it might take a bit longer than usual (given our needs) to find the right care giver, but they called back in less than 5 days and we had a care giver within 10 days to 2 weeks of that 1st main discussion. That care giver has worked out so well. It has really improved our lives and I can go days without worrying about my mom...what a relief. That's what For Papa's Sake provides: relief! If you are looking for an alternative to a nursing home or aged care facility or whatever you want to call it, For Papa's Sake really cares and I would encourage you to give them a call. They have worked out great for us and I would not recommend them for something so important if they weren't doing a great job.

Following this a gentleman named Zach Steiner came by with an employee to introduce and get started with us. As far as communication about employees and poss schedule change i have mostly dealt with Stephanie in the office who has always had a pleasant attitude and speaks very professionally on matters at hand. Some employees we have had for a weekly schedule but when needed they sent a fill in that was polite and able to meet our needs fittingly. On multiple occasions, I was asked to accept shifts that required lengthy commutes, transforming my role into something akin to that of an "Uber driver" rather than allowing me to engage in meaningful caregiving. One particular incident stands out: I was sent to a location where no client was present, as the company had arranged a ride without confirming the appointment. After attempting to contact the "24-hour emergency line" for over half an hour without any response, I found myself needing the assistance of police officers to reach the correct site. This experience highlighted the inadequacies in communication and support within the company, and to my disappointment, I received no acknowledgment or apology for the distress it caused. When I resigned, I requested to receive my final paycheck for all hours worked, yet I only received payment for one day. HR informed me that the remaining pay would be processed in the next pay period, which seemed inconsistent and unfair. Such practices may undermine the trust and morale of employees who are dedicated to their roles. I genuinely believe that Freedom Home Care has immense potential to create a positive impact in the lives of both its clients and staff. To realize this potential, it is crucial to foster a culture of empathy, clear communication, and fair treatment throughout the organization. These changes would not only benefit employees but ultimately enhance the quality of care provided to clients.
