Not impressed. I ordered the house special. No flavor. I asked if it had flavor or should I order it spicy like they have for the chicken and pork. The waitress was very helpful but the dish is not a favorite. I will come back and try the sushi. I'll come Back because the service was good and maybe this dish just isn't for me. As I'm writing this the waitress asks how does it taste and I said not much flavor. She brought me the Japanese hot sauce made it much better. The service definitely redeemed the food. Not sure about this place. I went in. No one there. Door was open and fan on. Didn't look appealing at all. The Owner proudly displayed their B Rating from The health department. That's when I knew I would not eat there. I've owned a restaurant for 18 years. It is actually hard to loose your A rating. The health department makes regular as well as unbounded visits. They look for things wrong but always gives you from several days to weeks to make a fix. So to have a B rating to me is rather disgusting. Especially sushi. read more

People give this place too much hate! It's clearly a husband and wife running the whole place themselves. Does it take while? Yes. Does it have a B health grade? Yes. But we're in the middle of the desert. Give them a break. I'd rather eat here any day since the only other food options in this town are fast food. They are so kind and friendly and make some great tasting food. Not to mention they have a wide variety from sushi to hot dishes to bento boxes. Lovely service and server. Very hole in the wall environment. Maybe other dishes are good but the 2 main dishes we ordered were pretty mediocre, especially for the price. The shrimp fried rice dinner was bland and didn't contain any egg, something that other restaurants generally add to fried rice. The veggies in the veggie tempura dinner were nice, but the sauce was kind of generic, and not same as sauce we've had for other tempura. Trying not to be too picky, but we paid $50 including tip for those 2 main dishes (they did include a small miso soup, and the tempura had a small salad) plus edemame. Might be worth a try, but maybe try some different dishes. People seem to like the tonkatsu. read more

Service was the saving grace. I ordered the beef bulgogi which typically is thinly sliced beef with vegetables in a sauce. Here on the other hand was like beef stew thick large slabs of beef almost like roast beef is texture. The meat tasted as tho it was a day away from being rotten. Safe to say I didn't eat the dish. I've been coming to this place since I was a small child and it's disheartening to see it quality fall so far totally understandable that the price of beef is going up but food poisoning is something that needs to be taken seriously. A quaint, cozy, hidden gem. If you like hole in the wall places - this on me is for you. The prices are reasonable and the food is prepared with care. The staff (especially the kitchen staff) are passionate about providing delicious food. My friend took me to Fuji Resturant on my birthday. It is acquaint little Restaurant. I ordered the shrimp fried rice my friend ordered the chicken teriyaki. While we were waiting for our food, the owner came to our table. I think he was the owner. and played happy birthday on his flute! Waited inside for about ten minutes. A customer walked through the door and the man behind the counter asked if he could help him. I said I hadn't ordered yet and he proceeded to ignore me. A few more minutes went by, he then took a phone order, and still didn't acknowledge me. The woman behind the counter stopped cooking to take my order. Dude struck up a conversation with the nice young woman waiting for her order and disappeared in the back again. I don't know what was up his bum, but he ignored me the whole time. Another guy came in, wasn't acknowledged, and left. Smart man. And the place is indeed dirty af. I don't mind a B rating if the food is good, but they need to spend a weekend giving it a good clean from top to bottom. I spent $23 and this was one rare occasion where I didn't leave a tip. The problem with the desert is that you're limited for choice, and this was one of the few non-burger type places that was open on a holiday. Will I be coming back? F*uck no! Do I recommend it? Meh, I think you can do much better than I did, or just wait until the other Japanese restaurant is open if that's what you're after. I also watched the woman cooking touch raw meat, then rinse her hands for about three seconds without using soap, so it looks like a complaint to the health department as well. I ordered a rainbow roll, tempura shrimp, and a bbq chicken plate. The entire sushi roll was overly sweet and tasted like mayonnaise, even after removing the low quality imitation crab. They also didn't include lemon slices like I asked. Not one. The BBQ chicken plate leaked all over the rest of the food and made the entire delivery bag sticky. Incredibly cold. Tempura shrimp was not tempura shrimp, but more like large flattened popcorn shrimp. Something you'd get at a bar. Clearly frozen ore made food. They literally served it with ketchup. On top of it, all of my food was cold, and had clearly rolled around their boxes. Very disappointed and I will never be ordering from here again. read more

This is my first time going here today. I ordered the Chicken Katy's Curry and it was amazing ! I went in and the place was very comfy. I walked right in and the lady asked me immediately what I would like . Even though she was quite busy, she managed to take my order anyways and told me it would come out in 15 minutes . My order came out in less than 5 minutes:)!! Even while waiting , another older gentleman approached me and asked me if I had been helped . The owner needs to be more sanitary. I door dashed an alcohol beverage to pair with my sushi order. It's not in a sealed container. They need to upgrade and get bottled to-go sake. I just don't trust it being poured into a random foam container with leakage that was presented. A mess. The food order was very mediocre and I was hesitant to eat after speaking with the guy on the phone. The guy was very rude and came off extremely defensive when I only wanted partial refund. I do not recommend eating here. I hope they get it together for future customers. read more

Ok so... Gyoza, sushi, curry, and ramen are some of my favorite foods. I live in Hawaii and grew up around this stuff. Amazing. This place has to be some of the worst I've had. I didn't order the sushi because I'm skeptical about raw fish in the desert. But I got the chicken catsu curry instead and gyoza. The gyoza is decent. But the soy sauce wasn't closed and spilled all over the inside of the bag so... The curry however... I don't know what kind of curry this is but it's not Japanese curry. It's more of a soup base as if for curry ramen. So soupy and messy. It tastes like curry but it's not curry. Japanese curry is thick and heavy. I could drink this stuff with a straw. Four people working, and they were extremely overwhelmed. I ordered to-go and sat at the counter. I got a New York Roll and a Shrimp Fried Rice & a corona while I waited. When I ordered, she said "where's the New York? I've never heard of that.." so I pointed it out to her, and then I had to point out the shrimp fried rice also so she could charge me correctly. She gave me the Corona unopened and left. They aren't twist off beers, so I had to wait for her to come back to ask her to help me open it. She handed me the bathroom key for outside their establishment.... I felt bad for the guy beside me. He had placed his order over phone before me, and when I left he was still waiting. The place needs a good scrub down. Every menu and special item was either written or printed out on computer paper. No actual menus. Everything was carelessly put together. The walls seemed to have a greasy shine to them. They seem to cut corners a lot on decor. Just cheap looking. The shrimp fried rice didn't taste like typical shrimp fried rice. You can tell they made the rice and then sautéd the shrimp in butter and placed them on top. It was much better though than the New York Roll. Super super fishy. Not fresh tasting whatsoever. As I was eating, I kept getting a whiff of the smell and couldn't finish. Maybe I'm just a picky being from LA area..I was expecting better. My guess over all is that they have way too much on their menu, and from different areas of the world that they can't focus on getting it all down pat. They need to make a smaller menu with only Japanese, Chinese, or Korean food. Stop worrying about getting so much on the menu and worry more about perfecting a smaller amount. Maybe if you live in the area it's worth it, as there doesn't seem to be many other options for meals, but for $30.00 for two items I definitely do not recommend. Honestly? We were starving after hiking through Joshua Tree National Park. We came across Fuji Restaurant, a Korean owned Japanese restaurant. Menu was extensive with sushi rolls, bento boxes, udon, and even specials listed along their highboy chairs. Restaurant is good if you want value and good homey type food. I had the seafood combo which came with rice, miso soup, garden salad, and fried fish and shrimp (3 pieces of each). The fish and shrimp were a good size. My husband had the taco rice, which is what you imagine. Taco filling on top of a bed of rice. We never see this item at any of the Japanese restaurants that we've visited. He enjoyed the simplicity of the meal. We didn't try the bulgogi or sushi even though other tables ordered them. We were stuffed from the food. Come to this restaurant early since there isn't a lot of seats. I recall 6-7 tables and seating at the counter. Many people did take out orders. read more

Decided to go Fuji restaurant based on the recent comments, "quaint little gem, hole in the wall, really good food." We were there on a week night, the place had just one other couple dining. The place wasn't hopping busy, maybe a few take out orders were picked up. We were asked to seat ourselves. The one and only waitress took 20 minutes to bring menus. When she finally returned to take our orders (30 minutes later), I asked her what was the fresh fish as I was in the mood for sushi. Her reply was, "oh, we have frozen fish." Well, sushi is definitely out. She proceeded to tell me they have "other fish" but that didn't convince me to order sushi. I opted on chicken katsu curry over rice. The food took another 30 minutes to arrive. The bowl was filled, however, the curry sauce was watery. As I dug into the bowl for the rice and took a bite of rice, I realized why the curry sauce was soupy/watery. It was because the rice was defrosting in the curry sauce! Come on, this is NOT JAPANESE FOOD! Most Japanese restaurants have a pot of hot rice. If Fuji has to stoop that low to serve frozen cooked rice, this is an ultimate sin! Secondly, the waitress had the audacity to bring us a check shortly after we started eating! Her comment, "no rush, take your time." Well, why did she rush to hand us the check? I am all about helping out small businesses, but this one sure took the cake as poorly served Japanese food and a waitress who seemed she did not want to be there. Fuji is in the town I grew up in and I've been going since as long as I can remember. Anytime I'm home I have to stop in or grab something to go. I may rate them a little high because I love it so much, but I'll be honest on what they lack as well. The staff is always nice, super friendly, and attentitive to your needs. The place is small and cozy so not ideal for large groups. I've pretty much had everything on the menu except for the taco rice. I'll try anything, but never felt the want to try that. Their sushi leaves you wanting more. There are better places to go, but if you want to save yourself the trouble of a long drive fuji can satisfy that sushi craving. The creamer angels are meh. They fry them fresh when you order, but the filling lacks flavor and seems like there's only cream cheese in there, nothing else. Any of their yakisobas are GREAT, they have just the right amount of meat and veggies. The spicy bul-go-ki and beef bul-go-ki are packed with flavor and I love when they bring it out in the little sizzling hot plate. Overall a great little place worth a try. read more
