What is it with these desert-sized portions? They gave SO much tempura with the bento - like a double order - I'm not sure if I'm happy or mad about this, because we were traveling and couldn't take leftovers... We got some salmon which was pretty tough and dry. I'm not super impressed with this place, but it's decent with huge portions. Next time I'll probably skip the salmon. The space inside is roomy and spacious, if a bit industrial with harsh lighting. Otherwise, it was fine for a meal. read more

I came here from far away and was excited to see Japanese food. I ordered three sushi rolls. One of them was soft crab. Another one was some kind of low end tuna that was almost grayish in color and the bloodline left in some of the pieces and then covered with slices of mango that were somewhat sour. You tell me which chef in this entire world would ever think that that's a good flavor combination. The second role was tuna, but it was topped with some kind of sauce. That was horrible. I didn't even think that they tasted it and it had actually had little slice slices about 10 of them of lemon on top where the sour juice soaked into the sushi. Honestly, I'm pretty nice person, but this tells me that whoever created this menu is completely off course by hundreds of miles. I'm sitting here right now and I plugged out almost $70 for these three rolls and I was only able to barely eat one of them and it had soft crab, but it hardly had any soft crab inside of it. I am really, really disappointed and I have to say that I gave it my best shot. I have a weird feeling that the only reason why they're successful is because of the demographics that's going inside that doesn't know how it's supposed to really be. I'm from up in the Sacramento area and I never experienced anything like this at any of the sushi places. I'm being very honest with you if you're the manager reading this. Absolutely no sushi restaurant in the whole Sacramento region put citrus on their sushi. The flavors do not match. You'll be far better off since you pay your chef a lot of money to get him to make sauces for each one that would make it delicious for your demographics. Cause that sushi in that mango and that lemon or whatever that is was just horrible. The successful sushi places do not do that. And yes, I've been to Japan several times and I'm not comparing it to their level. I'm only comparing it to the level of Americans. I walked in to place a to-go order...but realized that it was happy hour they don't let you place a to-go order from the happy hour menu...so, I was seated. I ordered three rolls...Tiger, Philadelphia Tempura, and Rainbow. I was greeted warmly taken very good care of I was allowed to take what I didn't eat to go with me... I have never had sushi here before and this review is on the older side. (I am working diligently at getting my drafts out), but it was good and I was surprised at how good it was...it is definitely worth stopping by and checking it out when you have a chance. My personal favorite is the Washington roll, but I have tried plenty of different rolls and ramen off the menu and everything has been delicious. The sushi here was delicious and fresh. They aren't the biggest sushi rolls, but still great quality. $59 for 3 sushi rolls and 2 sodas is a good deal. I would recommend eating here. My wife and I were looking for a place to eat to warm up. We decided to get this Ramen from Aki Sushi. The place did not seem packed at all, but it did seem lively with lots of local people. My wife got a Diet Coke, and I got a non-alcoholic beer. We ordered two different ramen and agadashi tofu. Our drinks came out very quickly, and the ramen came out shortly after. Our waitress came back and asked if we had ordered the gadashi tofu. It felt as if she had forgotten about it and asked if we still wanted it. I said yes, and a few minutes later it was brought out. I ended up finishing my ramen and most of the agadashi tofu. My wife had one piece and finished having her ramen. We took the remaining to go and ended up enjoying it the next day. read more

You sent soup back because didn't ladel soup pot before serving it. 2 times and pointed at soup and said it has seaweed in soup after told them you are serving me soup unsuited. They brought me one piece seaweed and 3 tofu pieces 2mm wide... the sashimi was small portioned. And the roll fell apart. The nacho sashimi was not servable had raw onion pieces all over top. To suggest that you agree with me now just as did at table. They retaliated instead of admitting that they served cheap soup and service is poor. I was nearly seated at a dirty table, the water tasted off, and half the ceiling lights were either flickering or completely dead. It felt neglected and uncomfortable before I even ordered. The food was worse. The chicken was so loaded with tendons that I had to spit it out immediately. There was barely any meat, and what little there was was inedible. Every piece was the same. I've never done this in my life, but it was so bad that I asked for the check right away. No one asked why. No concern. When the check came, the full plate was still on it--even though it was clearly bitten and immediately spit out. When I asked for it to be removed, I was met by a short, disrespectful woman with a terrible tone and zero professionalism. No apology. She defended the food, then flat-out refused to comp the dish. The restaurant smelled awful, and now my clothes smell like it too. Yucca Valley has been an amazing experience, and I've enjoyed every place I've visited--except this one. It's fine. If you want tasty sushi rolls, noodle dishes, Bento boxes, ramen, and that kind of thing, this is a good stop. Everything tastes fine. It's not amazing, and it's not lousy. It's difficult to review places like this because on the one hand, I'm really glad that there's a Japanese restaurant in the area. We could use more. But on the other hand, you cannot compare it to those wonderful sushi restaurants in Little Korea, Sawtelle Blvd., or much of Los Angeles, much less Japan, which has incredibly high standards for cuisine. But we go here regularly because the food still tastes good, and we're just simply happy that they're here and serve such a good variety of food. Their hot dishes are very good too, especially the Ramen, which, for the High Desert, actually scratches the Ramen itch. Noodles are not over cooked, broth is savory, and the ingredients are tasty and fresh. If you are in Yucca, Joshua Tree or even 29 Palms and want sushi, this is the place. Sushi is fine but service is horrible. We have gone here many times and half the time, the servers are horrible. Specifically avoiding our table for whatever reason or not coming to check on us at all and I mean at all. Not bringing us things we need like ginger and wasabi and this last time, which will be our last time coming here, one of the guy servers was for no reason confrontational and acted like we were bugging him when we asked for ginger and wasabi one time. He straight up refused to come over at first and when he finally did come over he said, you wanted something right??! But in an angry way like how dare we ask our server for something while at a restaurant. Was a bad experience. Shame because the sushi is alright. Oh well. We even told the owner and she seemed like she did not care and said next time she will serve us but kind of like she does not care this server is being rude and disrespectful to customers. read more

Quite possibly the worst sushi I've ever had in my life. I'm not sure the tuna was real as it was not fatty at all and just a solid pink color with no flavor, the eel was oddly tasteless and the vegetable tempura pieces were enormous and seemed to be triple battered. Just dreadful. read more

We went there to celebrate our anniversary. Food was good but, sadly our server was the worst. the only words spoken was are you ready to order. Never smiled, never checked on us during the meal to ask if everything was okay, didn't ask if we would like anything else. I enjoy the atmosphere of this restaurant. The staff is usually helpful, friendly, and prompt. If it's the busiest time of the day, and they are slammed with to-go orders as well as dine-in, they can be a bit slower but you see that they're doing their best. The food is delicious with a pretty expansive menu. In addition to the sushi/sushimi, they have tempura, noodles, bento variety plates, soup, and great personalized combinations. This used to be our go-to sushi spot in Yucca Valley, mainly because there aren't many other options. The food is average, but today's experience with customer service was especially disappointing. They forgot to serve our miso soup, and by the time we realized, we were almost done eating. We told them not to bring it since we were about to leave. When we went to pay, the soup was still on our bill. The cashier insisted it had been served, but we told them we never received it. Then a server came over and asked, "Did you not like the miso soup?"--to which we responded that we never got it, as there was no soup bowl on our table. They eventually brought back a receipt and a partial cash refund, shorting us since tax had also been charged. No apology was given, making for an overall terrible service experience. read more
