And, according to the advertisements, they do delivery too. So if you're not the evening constitutional sort, they can take your constitutional for you! I used to go to the PEELED place in Evanston, IL not only was it over-priced but the staff was rude and the owners did not really care about customer satisfaction. A solid 4-stars for the cutest "hidden gem" I've found thus far in Avondale, and perhaps the only combination kids' bookshop/cold sweets/empanada/coffee stand I've ever stepped foot in. On first glance, it's hard to tell what the main emphasis is. There are colorful decorations and kids' literature for sale; a full menu of shaved-ice, ice cream, and smoothie confections (many of them in the Mexican-Caribbean style); a selection of empanadas and other salty options; and decent coffee (not quite up to specialty/snob level, but better than the starry mermaid). In the end, it's mostly just a cute, Chicagoan riff on the little shops you might stumble into somewhere along a Mexican or Caribbean coastline. It doesn't quite reach the level of 5-star "exceptional," for me (and the prices seem a dollar or two too high), but it's worth a visit if you're in the mood for a colorful, tasty treat and the sensation of having left the country for a minute. read more

I had an açaí bowl the first time I came here and it was good. But what I come here for now is the tamarindongo which is the tamarin smoothie . It's so good I'm seriously addicted to it. The bf gets a banana split. It's pretty good I've tried it before. I don't really have a sweet tooth so it's not really my thing.
