We've tried to come a few other times and they haven't been open but we came tonight and this place was SO good! We both started with soup, cheddar broccoli and Italian wedding. Wow. Ordered some to go also. For dinner I got the chicken and biscuits, everything tasted so amazing you can tell it's home cooked which is just what we were looking for! I want to start by saying I love getting salads from here. They are a little pricy for a salad, but I feel most places are about the same price now a days. I wanted to try something different for dinner so I ordered a Greek wrap to go. But the time I got home, it was completely soggy and gross. I would suggest getting any dressing/sauce on the side if you are taking out. They told us it would be ready in 30 minutes. We got a text in 20 minutes that our food was ready. After hearing many recommendations for Fruit & Salad I decided to give it a try while visiting my family in the area. The service was fast and the staff were very kind and helpful. A member of my party had questions about the menu due to dietary restrictions and they were fast to get confirmation for her. The menu has a plethora of great options in a very wide variety, everyone in your party will be sure to find something. The lemon artichoke soup came highly recommended by friends we spoke to, posts here on Yelp, as well as the server. 3 of us ended up getting it to try. The flavor of the soup was amazing- however, during prep the choke was left in the artichoke causing a massive amount of choke "hairs" to be in the soup. As great as the soup tasted, it was nearly inedible. At the time we were unsure of what exactly to do so we just ate what we could and then waited for the rest of our meal to show up and they ended up taking it away. I was disappointed to say the least. The rest of the food was good, nothing over the top spectacular. When you can remember back 30+ years to patronizing a family operated, locally owned restaurant, they must be doing something right! The first location I remember going to with our young kids in tow was at the Rochester Museum and Science Center. That's long gone, but they are currently in a convenient and popular spot in Bushnell's Basin, so it's a convenient stop on the way home from Eastview (vs. the food court). My wife and some of our now-grown kids are fans of their creative, fresh, and healthy salads. The owners seem to keep up with the times and have have some trendy items too but you can always get a burger! Even with lunchtime crowds, they have lots of tables and your pager will buzz quickly after your order is taken at the counter. read more

Just had dinner at the Fruit and Salad Co and it was so disappointing! We had the baked haddock dinners. The fish was not at all firm as haddock usually is, but the panko breading covering it was just a bunch of mush. We both scraped it all off of the fish because it was inedible. The "french fries" were more like chips, obviously frozen, and were dried out and had no taste or seasoning on them. I will say that the soups that we had were really good, but certainly do NOT recommend this place for dinner. read more

Lentil burger was delicious, the moist patty stayed together and the sauce was flavorful. The fries were soft and lacked any crispness. The chopped salad had little flavor. The cream of broccoli soup had hard pieces of broccoli stem and the outer layer of onion which made it unpleasant. read more

Have daughter deadly allergic to treenuts and peanuts.. placed order for pickup and specifically requested that person on phone make sure was Asian salad with tofu. He stated would be no problem. Pick up salad looks good no nuts on it . Daughter takes one bite and goes into allergic reaction .. throat and moth covered with hives. Stick her with epi pen . Get things under control and call restraint to ask about the salad.. tell lady about tree nut/ peanut allergy and she says well the dressing had no nuts but has sesame oil and peanut butter.. For your information peanut butter can kill someone with nut allergy.. it is not something casual or funny. I wish I could give negative stars but this is most I can do. I used to be such a fan of Fruit & Salad Co. It seems their food quality has gone down. I'm definitely the type that will try different food each time I visit a restaurant so I get a good idea of all a place offers, their specialty, enhance my palate... With F & S, I've found the soup and salad combo of lemon artichoke and the sampler are my faves. This is one place I keep going back to the same order. And over time, I think the soup has become more thick and floury..think like a chicken and dumpling consistency. Something isn't as good about it. Flavor is OK but something is off. Salad is salad although the "mixed greens" this time was all iceberg. Ick. I don't mind iceberg mixed into for the crunch but I'd love to have true mixed greens with more nutritional value there. read more

I always enjoy my time at Fruit and Salad. FOOD: I've eaten a number of dishes here including, burgers, paninis, salads, and sides. All are great. My favorite items on the menu are: Basin Burger and Kale Caesar Salad with Chicken. For the Basin Burger, the meat is always cooked to my desired doneness and is full of great flavor. I'm not one to shy away from a super flavor packed burger with a million toppings, but sometimes, you just need a simple damn good burger, and the Basin Burger delivers on that. Add cheese and a side salad and you'll feel great about your choice. The Kale Caesar Salad with chicken is my go-to healthy lunch multiple days of the week. It s a blend of romaine and kale with a homemade Caesar dressing tossed with cheese and croutons. I'll sometimes opt for a vinaigrette to be healthier but the dressing is hard to pass up! The chicken is always freshly grilled and perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of salt. My one caveat is that one recent order of the Kale Caesar had only kale and no romaine. I personally love romaine lettuce and felt like the extra bite/cripsy crunch from that meal was missing in my lunch. Still a good salad but I just didn't eat as much since it was all kale. This isn't a regular thing but it did happen and they didn't tell me about it (it was a to-go lunch that I picked up and ate while working). SERVICE: One thing to know about the restaurant is that they have a great lunch spread that is pick up or eat in (similar to Panera style), but their dinner is sit down dining style. The dinner has the typical lunch menu with at least 10+ other homemade items ready just for dinner. You can still order to go in the evening, but you'll be greeted by a host when you get there so be ready for it! Regardless, all of the owners and waitstaff during both shifts are incredibly friendly and always willing to help. I highly recommend trying Fruit and Salad for a great meal! read more

Cobb Salad is HUGE and pretty good. I recommend getting it with the balsamic vinaigrette. It's also really good in wrap form. The salad is a better value than the wrap, though ($1 less and like 5x as much greens and stuff). Two things they could improve with the salad are: 1. The bacon: overlooked, dry and meh flavor. Better quality and properly cooked bacon would be great. 2. The blue cheese: it's a bit bitter; in my experience good quality blue cheese is sweeter than this (basically more balanced than this), and tastes better than this one. My husband had the chicken and biscuits and he said it was good. Biscuits were flaky. Sauce was well-composed. Chicken was a little dry. But he would get it again. Mom had the vegetable lasagna and enjoyed it. It didn't come out hot, unfortunately, so she had to send it back to be reheated, but then it was fine. Wine selection here is not good. Their red wines in particular are either too acidic, too watery, or just bad. Also they're served slightly too warm. We wanted red, but having tried a few (they were kind to let us sample before we picked!) we got the Relax Riesling as a fallback because it was pretty standard and didn't have any offensive characteristics. They are good about refilling water and leaving a carafe or two for the table, which is great. Service was good. No complaints about our waitresses. Only strange service moment was when we heard one of the main guys (possibly an owner? He is slightly older and also seated us when we came in.) dropping the f-bomb under his breath several times. Really odd behavior and choice of words. He was sort of quiet, but we were a table or two over and definitely heard clear as a bell. Plus, this is a family place, so kids could have definitely heard. One time he seemed annoyed at wait staff possibly for not cleaning the tables well enough, but he really didn't need to behave that way, especially in front of customers. Stopped by fruit & salad on a Sunday afternoon for lunch with my mom. The inside is adorable and a very quaint vibe to enjoy your meal. I had a terrible time choosing between their brunch menu of eggs or salad. Ultimately we each opted for a salad. Salads were large and delicious. My biggest pet peeve is minimal lettuce in a salad and fruit & salad was not one of those salads. Tons of lettuce, good amount of selected protein and other veggies. I was coaxed to go here, after much protest. I mean who wants fruit and a salad for a dinner on a Saturday night!. Boy, was I surprised. It reminded me of a classy diner. Just the feel, not really the look. It was very nicely decorated, and the atmosphere cozy. The food was fantastic. They have quite a nice dinner menu, with, YES, much more than bananas and lettuce. They have a baked fish that was great. I can't wait to go back. Of course you need to be careful not to let it slip to your macho friends. I mean "Fruit and Salad?" Love this restaurant, with one caveat. Their menu is too broad for their skill set. Where they really excel is salads, fruit, soups, and baked goods. Their dinner entrees are mostly meh. If you eat pasta or a meat dish you will be underwhelmed. But if you go and order the lemon artichoke or chicken and rice soup, half a Monterrey salad, and a piece of pumpkin chocolate chip bread, you will love every minute of it. read more

Many moons ago, I visited my college roommate from Rochester, New York. Swearing that Rochester has some of the best comfort food she has ever tasted (I stupidly laughed in her face), she brought me to Fruit & Salad Co, ordered me a broccoli and cheddar cheese soup with half of a tuna fish sammie. I have never looked back. I would visit Rochester JUST to go to Fruit & Salad. The restaurant is adorable, the people are nice, and the food is amazing. So amazing that I have my friend's mom ship me frozen mason jars of the aforementioned broccoli and cheddar soup every other month. It's like crack and puts Panera to shame. I've never had a bad meal from here. The only downside is that for a sandwich, soup, and salad joint, I do find the prices a tad pricey. Butt the quality of the food is worth every single penny. This is a must visit every time I'm in Rochester. Highly recommend. read more
