Went there after a round of golf. Had a Shandy and a wrap with sweet potato fries. It's a bit dark and dated when you walk in, but they have a great menu. The food was outstanding, lots of choices for types of wraps and above that not just a regular wrap, but multiple choices like wheat, spinach etc. Shannon (I think) was our waitress. She was outstanding and was able to separate checks for all of us which is a bonus when you were there with 12 or more guys. As far as waiting, we were there at an off time so I really can't answer or not, but we got our food very quickly and we're served very quickly as well. Would definitely go back again. read more

Stopped going after they lost their liquor licence for a whlle , went back last week and I have to say this is one of the best and reasonable places to go to in this area, the food is great,especially the fish fry, and the servers are very well trained,just very very good, would recommend this to anyone for a good meal that you can afford, and we drive a long way for it. read more

We had 2 events in the month of February. Meg was my point of contact for both. She has the best communication skills I have ever come across at a restaurant! She was super easy to get ahold of and always answered my questions promptly and efficiently. She was very accommodating with our themed events and made sure the room was set up to meet our needs. The room was organized well and we had ample space for both events that had over 20 people at each one. The food came out quickly and the portions were good and the food was tasty. I enjoyed both my meals and the great service that was provided. When they were made aware of any questions or concerns, they were dealt with quickly, we just had to let them know. There was a discrepancy with the gratuity accidentally being charged 20% for one of the events, but as soon as they were made aware of the situation it was taken care of. They went above and beyond and they will be at the top of my list for my next event! read more

It gets 3 stars 5 for the food and waitstaff -both were great! But take away two- one for the poor atmosphere and 1 for the owner. I came in several times. Once for lunch with my grandkids, once with my husband, once to see Brian Ayers play ( He was excellent BTW) and I ordered takeout numerous times. But the atmosphere inside was low. The owner appeared to be intoxicated but "Robin" was really sweet to me and my grandkids and is always nice, polite and inviting. It had been about 30 years between visits to Cheap Charlies and I have to say, the place seems to be as good if not better, now, than it was 30 years ago. I had been taking a trip down memory lane and stopping here seemed as good a choice as any. Service: late afternoon lunch, the bartender was also the server, and she promptly had me seated with something to drink and appetizers in while I looked over the menu for lunch. I decided to go with one of the daily specials and it worked for me. While it's not really "Cheap" as the name might indicate, the place was clean, the food was good and the price was right. read more

Staff is great. I feel sorry for them. There appears to be lack of management. Waited an hour and 10 minutes for our food. When the food finally came out the chicken, Parm was burned. We just had our first visit to Cheap Charlie's. I would say it offers simple honest food. Both the items we had were from the more casual/diner half of their menu so I can't speak to their steak cookery etc. The spaghetti and meatballs I had was very tasty and homestyle. I didn't need nearly as many meatballs as they provided but it certainly made it seem generous. The partner had a very intentionally plain burger and it was cooked properly to a lovely medium as he requested. Our server was pleasant but disappeared for long periods of time at EVERY stage of the process including after giving us 'another minute' to finalize our choices. The dining room was almost empty so whatever she was doing it wasn't directly related to us or her 1 large table that was done eating. We weren't in a hurry so it wasn't a big deal. The desert we tried, Peanut Butter Silk, wasn't good. I'm sure it's a food service pie from Edwards or something similar. The whipped topping was thick and could actually be pulled like gum. The layers of peanut butter and chocolate were weak in flavor and the crust screamed 'I'm a defrosted frozen pie'. They have about 6 deserts on the menu. Maybe they should streamline that to a few higher quality, higher turnover items. Despite what sounds like a lukewarm review, we will go back. The non desert food, including bread and salad, all met our expectations and I appreciated the quiet uncrowded environment in East Bloomfield. read more

Honesty time. This is one of few places in Bloomfield to eat. This place, unlike it's name, is not cheap. That is another thing entirely. The service though, that is the crux of this post. We were told our server was coming. She never waited on us and lackadaisically approached other tables of people grumbling to be waited on. Instead, the girl that was supposed to serve us hung out behind the bar with the bartender. We waited over 10 minutes after being seated to be greeted. We waited another almost 30 to be served. I hate to even give them 1 star. Took my son & family out for his 50th birthday. Have eaten here a few times & the food was good having said that tonight it was HORRIBLE!!!!!! Some of the food was luke warm, got our salads with the meals, salad dressing was like water, one meal was mostly burnt, the spaghetti & meatballs came out without the meatballs & was told at that time they didn't have any meatballs. The waitress never came back to the table, we were the only people there eating, & we finally yelled at her across the room to bring our bill. I told her at that time how bad the food was. She told me to tell the bartender which I did. She went to call the manager at home to inform him/her of my complaints. They said because we had eaten some of the food & didn't complain right away he would give me a 10% discount on a $114.00 bill. I told the waitress I couldn't complain because she never came back to the table to check on us. I can't stop going here because of their crab legs! You have to fight a little bit but that's normal for good yummy crab. I can't say how many times I've been to places and you order a pound of crab legs and they bring the plate and there is skimpy legs and only like 2-3. I feel like I get my money's worth every time. I love their Italian salad dressing it is delicious and not bland, not just some oil and vinegar. Stuffed mushrooms are also delicious. The staff is always really good and friendly even when it's busy. Must be a pretty good place every Saturday we go there is some type of party in their party room. I love it here and am pleasantly surprised I get such excellent crab legs! Don't let the name fool you!!! read more

Horrible bar service. We love the burgers and were looking forward to trying their Friday night fish fry. We had a party of 4 and there was a small wait so we ordered drinks at the bar. I ordered a White Russian and was served some sort of vanilla vodka and cream? Not sure but not good and certainly not a White Russian.... no problem. My fiancé exchanges the drink asking for a vodka, soda, cran. We are served a vodka and cranberry. When I asked the bartender about the soda instead of just fixing the drink she claimed that was how it was ordered and wouldn't fix it. Four people on a Friday night eating and drinking you would think customer service and common sense would allow for a fresh proper drink to be made. She was rude and nasty and I paid for a drink I never even got. Really really disappointed. read more

Found Cheap Charlie's by accident, what a great find! The service was spectacular and the food was great! They didn't have horseradish cream sauce for the prime rib and the waitress went out and made it for us!!! The portions were generous and the cost was fair for all of the food that we got. Yikes. Well-intentioned perhaps but this place is a major dive. It was my grams request for her 92nd bday (she digs their fish fry). The super icy walkway in was my first red flag (granted I had 2 year old and newborn to get in the door but it was THICK jagged ice and could've put anyone on the ground). The interior is so rough, as in PILES of junk (cardboard boxes etc) in one corner, super tight tables (had to ask multiple people to scooch their chairs so my gram in her walker could get by all the way to the back corner that they put us in). The host was irked with us, I guess b/c we had a walker and needed a high chair for our group? My gram thoroughly enjoyed her fish fry, which is really what mattered. On the other hand, as a vegetarian I was at a loss looking at the menu. Not even a veggie burger to be found. I ended up with a kid's grilled cheese and my husband who also has Celiac's dined on a side salad. Our server was sweet and did her best. Terribly disappointed and more: Having patronized here before, we were looking forward to their Saturday night prime rib, but on a 'to go' basis this time. Medium rare, she said. Drove it home in 10 minutes and found it well done, no pink whatsoever. Called up and she said she typed in med. rare on the order, but the boss wasn't there and nothing could be done. A $30 entree eaten in or out is the same, so we drove back to return it to the kitchen for another piece. She said there wasn't anymore - at 6pm mind you. Persisting, she relents and says the boss just walked in. A visit to the kitchen brings out this boss/chef who says our entree must have "cooked" on our 10 min. ride home and he had no more. More persistence. He says he'll go check. Comes back with a rare, fatty cut. It was take it or leave it, so my wife takes it. On the way out she heard him say to her back: "Be happy, not mad." !! And by the way, not only weren't they out of prime rib, they weren't busy at all in the dining area, only the bar. His was NOT the response you would expect over an issue that could easily have been resolved. read more

Just wish they weren't so inconsistent. The fish fry is soggy, unless it's not. Same for French fries. Coleslaw may be super sugary. Or not. The more "exotic" menu items are usually not a good bet. Stick with either burgers or fish fries. This kitchen is limited at best, inconsistent at worst. It's a small town eatery with cooks rather than chefs, and nobody seems to really know their way around a kitchen. read more
