Iced coffee
Marilu S.

I stopped by here after my morning gym session and ordered an iced coffee. I was planning on eating breakfast at home but this danish looked really tempting to pass up on it. So I ordered the Cheese & Guava Danish and it was delicious. I enjoyed every single bite of it. Cute coffee shop to grab a pastry and your morning brew and sit here reading your book in peace and tranquility. The girl at the counter seems friendly; she looked happy to be at work with a smile on her face. 10/10 coffee shop recommendation.

Kale and cheese croissant

I love this little spot away from the avenues and tucked into a quiet block. The selection of drinks are plentiful and they have a nice selection of muffins and scones ect. I love the way it's decorated and it's a nice quiet spot to come on a weekday morning to sit and get some work done or enjoy peacefulness. Everything is freshly made and the seating areas are so artsy and clean and inspiring. Definitely want to come back and try more muffins. I had the kale and cheese croissant heated up. Really good and flakey!

(Dined 07/12/2023 WE @ 3:15pm): They may serve frothy things at this place on Franklin, but I opted for something dirty and some pastries! A local realtor suggested Froth On Franklin as a convenient place for our initial in-person meeting. This place was barely a ten-minute walk from my friend's place which was great and allowed me to further familiarize myself with the neighborhood. Generally speaking, I wasn't much of a coffee person, but I was usually open to eatery exploration. Would I find options other than frothiness!? PURCHASE Iced Dirty Chai w/Lowfat Milk 24floz Cup ($5.95): Since I didn't drink coffee (unless I was taste-testing it), my other option was tea and frankly the name caught my attention. With a light aroma of various baking spices and a more overt matching flavor, this was an enjoyable refreshing drink during this humid day. I could've done with less ice since it took up so much space in the cup, and the lactose residual effect was no bueno when I got back to my friend's place, but I'd order this again. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=AWPyzb2o30nqKDJTUjqRdw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Cheese Danish ($4.50): A large flaky pastry with blueberries and a dusting of powdered sugar, this was a lovely way to introduce myself to this small establishment. I wished I asked if it could've been slightly warmed up; nonetheless, it was tasty and filling while paired with my drink. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=ubkpuDFj1vBoUynTp1I7TA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw THE "APPLE FRITTER IS TAKING OVER THE WORLD TOUR" CONTINUED... Filled Apple Fritter ($4.25): I dove into this the following morning. Not that I was an apple fritter snob - eff it...yes I was! - but there was a certain way I liked mine. 1st, the price was comparably higher to the going rate. 2nd, it was generally round, thick and dense as I liked but not generally fluffy, and more the size of my palm (small) rather than my face (an ode to the great Goldstar Donuts in Van Nuys). 3rd, it was filled with gooey apple bits. 4th, the overall darker brown color was very good (I preferred a darker hue) with no burnt ends (I loved it burnt), and the heavy glaze made for a good cracking effect and quite a mess. It was void of any smaller crunchy odd crannies, corners, and nooks which I liked to break off into small little morsels. 5th, based on its temperature it was room temperature with zero hints of oil pockets but had gooey apple bits and juices that leaked into your mouth and dripped down your throat. Overall, it had very good value - 4.0 STARS. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=1iUCZWnpDWDfU-BBFl9HUg&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Non-Cash Fee ($0.59): There was no mention of this until I got the receipt, but this appeared to be a growing movement, so I regrettably accepted it. SERVICE Warmly greeted by a lone female, I was the only customer at the time, so she quickly handled my order. She continued to clean as closing time neared when eventually the rest of my party arrived. She cordially allowed us to stay past closing time but kindly asked us to depart when she finished. Props for her generosity and patience - thank you! PARKING (Street Only; N/A this instance) I walked from my friend's place. Otherwise, as was the case for much of "The Heights" in Jersey City, there were plenty of spots along the main drag of Franklin St. and all surrounding streets if you were lucky enough to find an empty spot, or you took public transportation which stopped nearby - nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A bright casual open space wooden motif with the elongated order counter and display cases directly to your left, a central communal long table https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=6MXn5XlIWEZAREy2uc19wQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw to met strangers, a cozy nook with a comfy couch and padded bench seating in the front corner, a high bar table along the other front corner along the windows, and a handful of framed pictures hung on the walls. Very good natural lighting came through all of the windows and door while soul-sucking fluorescent electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. There were no TVs while soft music played in the background. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=U6PSTtcnVDEnBdmMP_2ONA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Froth On Franklin was a nice find albeit I wasn't a coffee shop person. Their hours were morning through late lunch. The prices were slightly elevated, a reasonable menu selection, very good portions, and effective service. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $16.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS

A girl can never review too many coffee shops. I've been to FROTH a bunch (like 2-3 punch cards worth of times) and I plan to make it a usually stop for a caffeine fix. The good (it's all good): -The coffee is great. I've gotten everything from a hot cup of black coffee to an oat iced latte. Always great. -Everyone that works there is super friendly, helpful if I am trying to decide what to order, and quick so there is never a long wait, even with a line. -Cozy spot to sit and chat, plop with your laptop for a bit or grab & go. Big FROTH fan.

Made my way to Froth twice the past couple weeks while exploring The Heights area. The decorations are so cute! The seating is abundant and has a cosy corner with couches. I've tried the peppermint mocha latte and their honey butter latte. Loved them both! They seem to do the seasonal drinks really well. I also sampled some different croissants and macaroons. They were pretty tasty but their drinks are the star. Both baristas I met were kind and friendly!

Coffee Au lait ( Dark roast with shot of milk)
Sanchit K.

Located in the heights on Franklin St, this place has a cute ambiance and gives relaxing vibes to have a coffee especially during weekends! I decided to go for black velvet which is a dark roast and asked for a shot of whole milk to be added which turned out to be Cafe au Lait. The dark roast felt smooth enough and was refreshing enough to wake me up on a gloomy day from the little sleep I had in my eyes! I also decided to try out their 'everything croissant' with cream cheese, it's just the bagel version of croissant and it tasted good. The pastry though seems to be bought from somewhere but was fresh enough to start the morning! The service was quick and the baristas were friendly, overall a good local place to have a coffee. Would definitely love to try out their other selections as well in the future!

The barista/owner makes this coffee bar especially lovely. Excellent variety of scones, muffins, quiches, cookies, breads and coffees/teas make it a new favorite when we visit Jersey City. Love the vibe.

Second time here and I enjoy the coffee once again. It's a very authentic coffee shop with lots of nice decor with positive messages and cozy vibes, The coffee is also on point with that good good espresso machine lol They also offer good tea from TeaPigs and a variety of pastries. Only area of opportunity would be having sugar free options for coffee syrups.

Coffee: 4/5 saw the barista make it, took his time and it tasted good. Good coffee to milk ratio! Vibe: 4/5 nice place, beautiful ceiling, small shop but lots of character and history. Service: 5/5 barista was super friendly and nice to us!

I lived around the corner from FROTH for a few years but recently moved out of the area and I miss them dearly. Al and his family and staff are such an asset to our Heights neighborhood. I think I've tried almost every one of their pastries at this point and all have been wonderful. Their chocolate croissant is my go-to, so highly recommend that. Pre-pandemic, I used to spend a few hours a week working remotely here because the atmosphere was quiet, welcoming and outlets were a plenty.

A pretty cozy cafe I must say. Plenty seating space and definitely a nice interior. One can easily come here and work all day. Could be a bit noisy so I would get a pair of noise canceling headphones. But the high bar table and chair setup is perfect if you wanna work on your laptop and a few couches if you wanna enjoy your book while sipping their amazing coffee.

My first coffee in this neighborhood Excellent coffee! Super nice owner... the chocolate brownie i think is homemade. And it's just a great spot to work on your laptop

My Iced Latte with Lavender was well-made. It was a good mix of creamy, sweet, and floral along with the caffeine kick I needed to start my day. The barista was super friendly and knew what he was doing. However, the person who took our orders was a bit unfriendly/cold which didn't help considering it was our first time there and we had questions. I enjoyed every bite of my breakfast almond croissant. Their iced coffee is so delicious! I usually take long to drink my 16 ounce cup of iced coffee but Modcup coffee's iced coffee I drank it so fast because of how good it was. Great little coffee shop conveniently located in front of a park. 10/10 coffee shop recommendation.

($4.75 for 2eggs, homefries, bacon) Personally, I think it is MUCH higher quality than Rumba's on centeal. They also had empanadas; I had a Colombian beef and chicken, both were great but the salsa on the side wasn't anything special. The coffee was amazing, 100% Colombian! However, in past versions, it felt like an insulated group of regulars, and I was hesitant to go in. In particular, their empanadas are the absolute best in the Heights, and they experiment a little with them. This morning I had my usual Bacon & Egg, and also tried their new Prosciutto and Mozzarella, both were fantastic. Also a fan of their Beef & Sweet Plantain one. Grabbing quick breakfast now on my way to work has become part of my daily routine here and I can't believe I lived next to this place for so long and missed out! A great locally owned business that everyone should support!

On a Sunday afternoon lines moved quickly and we were able to find seats. This is a cute cafe that offers plenty of savory items and lunches, plus drinks like matcha, cakes, pastries and cookies. There is also a bathroom! The women behind the counter were all nice and patient with my questions, they also kept the line moving and were quick. I had high hopes for the Alfajores as this is an Argentinian bakery but unfortunately the ones given to me were stale. The cookie was very hard. Also the Dulce de leche was too sweet and burnt tasting to me. I also got a chocolate covered one and the cookie in that was also hard and dry. The strawberry croissant was amazing. Never had anything like that before. Not too sweet and very flaky. It has a ribbon of red on the outside which gives it a unique look. I would love to come back and try savory items. I'll continue to stick with the cakes and croissants for desert and make sure it's fresh!
