Saw this place on TikTok and convinced the fam we should stop on our way to mission beach. Such a good choice for lunch. I got the bacon cheeseburger with onion rings and a chocolate shake. It was all so good. The staff were super friendly and overall pretty quick considering it is basically cooked to order. The seating is outdoor, small town in the pines, sup chill.

Stopped by while on a road trip & it was packed! Service was great & we didn't wait long for our food given how many people were there. Great place to stop for a good old fashioned burger. Burger was nice & hot! (Leaving 4 stars since some of our fries were slightly undercooked). Still regretting not getting a milkshake lol. We had originally just ordered two bacon cheeseburgers & a side of fries, but the cashier recommended I make one a meal since it would be cheaper & we'd get a drink - Always appreciate a cashier who does this vs trying to upsell. Ended up leaving a tip because of this. Great mom & pop to support - would stop by again if in the area!

WOW! I can't believe I slept on this place for all 4 years I lived in Descanso. Ordered the Mtn Bacon Double Cheeseburger with pepper jack, it was one of the best burgers I'd ever had, and it was HUGE! The portions for what you pay are very generous. My dogs also loved their puppy patties. Will def need to come back for some ice cream next time!

Made this as a roadside stop on way to San Diego after my daughter sent me the tik tok video. The chocolate shake was delicious. Onion rings cooked fresh and hot served with ranch. The iced tea is unsweetened with a fruity flavor. Seating is outdoors with some umbrellas. Other tables in the sun I would not be able to tolerate. They play 50s/60s music. Service was pleasant. Overall a good experience and a nice stop close to the freeway that isn't a chain.

First time here. The customer service was awesome. The spicy chicken sandwich was delicious and had a decent kick. Onion rings were delicious as well. But the real star was the chocolate malt. Food was well priced and I felt like I went back in time for an honest roadside meal. What a hidden gem.

So delicious! Such a great and nostalgic stop on our way back to Phoenix from San Diego. I wish I took pictures of the food. Hefty serving of fries and the chocolate shake was amazing!

Dare I say... this is the better apple pie??…read more After a morning of fails and fails due to weather. The bright side of things were the pastries we got here? We had to get their apple pie with vanilla ice cream on top- instantly wow- loved the combo of it and flavor Tried their maple and chocolate donut- soft and tasty. Really enjoyed the maple. Sad they ran out of their cinnamon sugar Hot chocolate - everything that I wanted in a hot chocolate on a rainy day It was pretty wet outside and we were able to find a spot next door at their Togo spot. We ate our pie in peace while people watching. It was very good and happy we tried it! Highly recommend. There is a line but it moves quickly. Inside seating but very limited. Outside seating but limited when it's wet outside.

My coworker brought back a pie from here to share with our team, when he got back from a camping trip here last year. Then I grew up in and my parents live in Murrieta, and you see these pies at our local Ralphs Murrieta and Temecula. My friend and I got a slice of Carmel Apple Dutch Pie & Boysenberry Apple Crumb Pie, each with a scoop of Cinnamon Ice Cream, which we shared to get to try each flavor. It was really pricey though, about $27 for the two fresh slices of pies with the cinnamon ice cream on top - about the same price if we were to order a whole pie to-go. But we wanted to enjoy a fresh slice of Julian Pie, while visiting Julian. We both aren't too crazy about pies in general, but they were pretty delicious pies, and the cinnamon ice cream was the perfect touch to them. The Caramel Apple Dutch pie was too sweet though in my opinion, with the caramel, so I preferred the Boysenberry Apple Crumb Pie - the berry/apple flavor, with the texture of the crumb, along with the cinnamon ice cream - absolute perfection. Ambiance - the main bakery store serving the fresh slices of pies is really small, quaint, cozy, and cute. Definitely fits the Julian small family-owned business vibes. Limited indoor seating though, but I do like that they have cozy and comfortable booths. They also have a restroom, but there's just one so there was a little bit of a wait in line for it. I also loved their separate building for the gift shop and to-go frozen or fresh whole pies for sale. I got adorable metallic Julian Pie Company stickers from the gift shop, which I absolutely love! Overall, I had an amazing experience here and would highly recommend checking out this place if you're ever in Julian, and buying their pies if you see them at your local grocery store!

We had a handful of teenagers in line behind us who kept giving my dog tons of love. I ordered the: *Yellow Cake Batter Ice Cream: it was delicious. It wasn't too sweet and was very creamy. Very well made! The prices are unbelievable. My small cup was only $2.50, which is almost unheard of these days. The portion was just the right size too. They also offer complimentary pup cups, which is a little scoop of vanilla ice cream on a cone. My dog absolutely loved it and devoured it! Parking on the side streets can be a little tricky depending on the time of day, but it's worth it. Overall, the ice cream is phenomenal, the service is incredibly fast, and the prices are hard to beat. If you're looking for great ice cream without spending a fortune, this spot is definitely worth checking out!

This PB…read moreinstitution has been around for over 75 years when the original owners set up the ice cream shop in 1949. There were only two or three parking spaces for this business in the shared lot so your best bet was to find a curbside spot on a side street. Two tables and two tiny picnic tables for the kiddos were available for on-site seating. On really warm days, the line can stretch all the way to the street corner which meant patience was a must. Only half a dozen ice cream flavors were listed. Cone and cup sizes ranged from extra small ($2) to large ($4) with waffle cones costing $4.50. Those were still good prices in today's economy. Fountain treats like shakes and other novelties such as a chocolate dipped banana also graced the menu. A separate food menu with sandwiches, subs, hot dogs, and chili was also available that I never paid attention to before. I selected a Chili Dog and a large cup of Twist (chocolate and vanilla) for my order. The hot dog took several minutes to prepare and was served inside a styrofoam container. A huge ladle of chili. white onions, and cheddar cheese covered the beef frank and bun to the point I could even recognize those components. The amount of chili made it difficult to consume as the ratio compared to the hot dog was off the mark. The Twist was a standard mix of chocolate and vanilla soft serve ice cream. It was creamy and consistent. I think a cake cone would have been the perfect vehicle, but I didn't want the soft serve to melt while I was tackling the Chili Dog. I'm glad to see Mr. Frostie last over multiple generations in this neighborhood. My latest visit was worth four stars.

I went here right at closing with a few friends and picked up some ice cream to go. I was immediately greeted, asked what I wanted, and received my ice cream very quickly. That prompted me to make a final visit as I used to frequent the PB store when it was still around. The original Vietnamese owner started the business in 2014 by sourcing unique flavors from Hawaii. With more competition and inflation, it was sad to hear that Hammond's was no longer able to sustain their mission anymore. I fondly recall one visit in which I came with a large group, and we split a 32-flavor flight. I loved being able to sample all of the different varieties, but it was hard to get to all of them before they started melting. Hammond's was one of the first local ice cream shops that offered flights as an option. The menu here also served floats, shakes, sundaes, and cookie skillets. I don't recall such options at the PB spot which focused on scoops and flights. There were about 30 flavors written on a marker board posted on a wall. The choices didn't seem as fruity or exotic compared to the early days. On this occasion, I opted for a medium sized cup with two different flavors... Mackinac Island Fudge and Strawberry Cheesecake. The first one had swirls of chocolate from the upper peninsula of Michigan mixed in with a vanilla base. The second one was a fairly standard variety that you will find at most ice cream places. I did like the collections of ice cream scoops that were mounted on the walls as decor. This North Park venue had several tables and a countertop for inside seating. It was likely the largest of what was one time three locations of the business. Thank you to Hammond's for your past decade of service to the SD community!
