I hadn't planned on writing a review about Frontier Asphalt Services on multiple sites, but it seems their owner now wants to make me look like a bad customer, initially responding with a Thank you for your review type reply and then doing a 180 and trying to discredit my post and stating I wanted to be taken care of with a "golden spoon" . So I'm posting my review here too so others then see what I experienced and expect if you question them. I wish I could rate this company on how well they sealed my driveway but instead I'm rating them on their customer service. I had a few folks on NextDoor recommend them so figured I would reach out regarding sealing my driveway and fixing some cracks. First it took multiple emails to finally get anyone to call me. When they finally did call me (a week after my second email), it came from a random 734 (Michigan Area Code). They left a message since I typically don't answer unknown numbers. Called them back after I listened to their voicemail and was told they could come out on Saturday for an estimate and someone would call me Friday or Saturday to tell me when. Friday afternoon I get a call telling me they will be there at 2pm for an estimate, so I adjusted my schedule to make sure I was home to speak to whoever was coming by. At 2:02 on Saturday I get the following email from their owner. "Unfortunately your driveway already has recent sealer apply to the surface and we cannot give you a quote for a seal coating thank you and have a great day" Sent from my Iphone. First of all this is most unprofessional. I adjusted my schedule to make sure I was home to speak to them, at the very least they should have come knocked on the door or called, not sent a poorly worded email vi their iphone 30 seconds after stopping in front of my house and not even getting out of the truck to fully examine the driveway. I sent a reply email stating my driveway was sealed 2 seasons ago and asked if they even got out and looked at the driveway and what sort of customer service was this. I then received a call from their owner telling me he can tell that my driveway was sealed with a water based sealer and they use oil and they won't seal over a water based one and its stated on their website (which it isn't I double checked). He also stated he didn't need to get out of his vehicle, he could tell just by looking at it. He then proceeded to tell me if I ever wanted to replace my driveway he could give me 15% off. Like I'd really want to use this company based on this experience. Also 15% off what? 15% off with no base price is not a deal when you don't know what it cost to begin with. So maybe they do a good job with driveway sealing/repair but their customer service is horrible and even worse, when they didn't like my initial review they decided to discredit me, reiterating the unprofessionalism of this business. read more

I used Frontier Asphalt Services to seal a new driveway that was done last year. I learned that their hot seal was much better than the water based sealers I had used for years. This sealer is about 3 times the cost of water based solutions that still allow for cracks to form, and lasts 3 times as long. The results are stunning and dark black instead of grey. Everyone in my neighborhood has asked me about this driveway. It looks so much better than everyone else's driveway. I could not be happier. Luke was pleasant, professional, and did exactly what he said he would do. There was no mess to clean up when they left and there was no messy overspray on walls or garage doors. Great job. Luke was great to work with. This is my first asphalt driveway and I didn't realize that spilled fuel can degrade the surface. Luke was extremely responsive throughout and was able to patch/repair and seal my driveway within a week. I was referred to Frontier by another company I had contacted--I had a small job of filling in some gouges left in the asphalt by a delivery truck. Luke came out and said that the job was very small but on the spot he filled and sealed it. I am very pleased with the price and service provided by Frontier. I solicited bids to pave my driveway. Frontier's bid was tied for the lowest, so I just made a decision to go with them. They arrived on time and immediately got to work. I sat out there and observed much of the work by the 3-man crew, including Luke (the owner). The plan was to remove the existing edges in front of the garage, along the sides, and down by the sidewalk and fill, level & pave the entire driveway. I was very impressed with how the crew worked together and the equipment & materials used. The asphalt looked beautiful and plentiful as they poured, carefully spread it around, and compacted it. Frontier did a great job sealing our driveway. They use a hot oil-based sealer that promises to last over several seasons. The look is fantastic. Luke stayed in constant contact and arrived on time. The process is much less messy than the typical water based sealers. It only takes about 45 minutes total, and the driveway is ready after about 24-hrs. We also had some issues with our asphalt that Luke was able to patch before sealing. He was also able to identify some potential trouble areas that may need future patching. First of all, let me just say that home ownership is the biggest money sucker of all time. Okay, now that I got that off my chest, in the event you need someone to seal coat a driveway that had never been sealed in the 8 years that the house has been standing, I recommend Frontier. I found them on Thumbtack and Luke, the owner, was very responsive with doing a free estimate that day and completing the project in less than a week. They were in and out in less than an hour and Luke made sure to answer all of my maintenance questions. Also, I wasn't pressured to either hire them in the first place or to rehire them when Luke recommended I apply another coat in a year in a half rather than the usual 3-4 year time frame (due to the driveway's unsealed past). They also had very reasonable pricing. They quoted me $400 for approximately 1200 sq ft, which included a crack repair. P.S. Don't be thrown off by the fact that Luke looks really young. I highly recommend working with Frontier--the process of coordinating with them was easy, the price was very good, and the work was EXCELLENT. They sealed our driveway this fall and made the whole thing easy and made us confident that our driveway is well taken care of. Frontier's estimate was VERY clear and complete--it answered many questions and made us confident that we knew what we were getting into. Frontier did a great job staying in touch with us, too, in scheduling the estimate and then scheduling the work. (A small emergency meant they had to reschedule the first estimate date--but it was clear they were going out of their way to make sure we were taken care of and to get an estimate done as soon as was possible. The communication from them on this was exemplary.) The price came in a bit lower than other comparable bids--it certainly was VERY fair for the level of attention we received and for the really great job they did. (FYI, Frontier appears to be in a category of expense higher than the mass-market/simple-service providers, but we ended thinking our driveway needed more attention than the one-price-fits-all providers. We are confident the money was well-spent.) And the work itself was GREAT! I'm not someone who thinks driveways are beautiful, but Frontier made our driveway look, well, beautiful. Luke did the work to reseal our driveway, applying strips to cover cracks and then the overall sealant. He was great to work with--he answered our last-minute questions and then got right to it ... I had Luke come out to fill in some small cracks and seal the driveway. His cost was very reasonable and I am happy with the work he's done. Communication with Luke is always good, he's prompt with his responses. There were some overspray of sealant on foundation wall and siding. He came out and cleaned up the overspray. It's not perfect but looks much better than before. Only piece of advice I can give to other homeowners is, take the proactive approach and cover up bottom 12 inches of garage doors, sidings and foundation wall before the seal spray. read more

Stay away! Luke Jones, owner of Frontier, is an absolute con artist! The whole reason we wanted our driveway fixed was because we had... and still have, a huge pothole at the top of our driveway with a ton of loose gravel and cobble surrounding it. Luke Jones came out for the estimate, he explained that he (and his crew) would cut the asphalt and replace the square with the pothole. Also fill other cracks and seal the rest of our small driveway for $1,200. Being a frugal business owner myself, I get this question asked daily. I asked if he could come down on the price a little... BIG MISTAKE!!! I wish he would've said no, but he came down to $1,100... which is $100 off. The whole time I'm thinking the same agreement, just $100 cheaper. But no... he writes me a new estimate but in a very unprofessional way, he doesn't explain that the $100 just changed literally everything we just talked about minutes ago!! In a very cute little con artist way, he doesn't check the same tiny box that he did in the first estimate. Nice touch Luke! He didn't explain that now he wouldn't be cutting any asphalt and replacing the pothole. Instead writes a very deceiving little note that he'll "remove loose asphalt and patch hole at the top." He also told me that his crew would be there. But instead it was just him that showed up and did the work. Now we still have a terrible eye soar with tons of loose asphalt and gravel you see in the picture. You got me good Luke, but hopefully this review will stop you from getting over on anyone else! *** In response to your explanation Luke, I have a question. Did you or did you not change anything from the 1st estimate to the 2nd estimate besides the price? You and I both know you did. That's why you ripped up the first estimate into a hundred pieces and threw it away. The work you completed was for the initial verbal estimate of $700. After you explained what the top of the driveway would look like, I said I wanted that spot to look much better than you explained, you said it would be an extra $500. Does that picture look like an extra $500 worth of work? You stand by that terrible repair?? Yes it was my fault that I trusted you and signed the 2nd estimate without asking if anything had changed bc of the messily $100 discount. It doesn't matter, the proof is in the picture. It looks horrible. I'm going to now pay another company to truly fix the top of our driveway. Good luck in the future if that's what you call conducting yourself in a professional manner. read more
