It has been four years and the cracks are visible from the street after it rains but are only cosmetic in nature, structurally the driveway is sound. There are control joints in place are where it is hoped that the inevitable cracks will happen, unfortunately the cracks in our driveway occurred outside of the control joints. The owner of Salzano's came out to see the cracks and treated them with a product that will hopefully keep them from getting more noticeable. The previous asphalt driveway was probably not even aesthetically pleasing when brand new. The concrete and brick edging from Salzano's is a tremendous improvement still after four years. I just wished the concrete and Mother Nature worked together to have the cracks happen inside the control joints. read more

Salzano Custom Concrete could not have done a better job than they did on our project. My wife and I are 100% satisfied and recommend them with no reservations. They're in high demand which means you'll wait to have your job done. From scheduling the initial appointment with CJ Salzano to completion, the process took about 7+ months. But it's worth the wait. Our job involved a patio of about 750 square feet with fire pit, sitting wall, lighting, and multi-color stained concrete. It required some grading of the property and the use of curbing at the back of the patio. In the front of the house, they jackhammered out the existing 160 square foot walkway and replaced it with multi-color stained concrete. Based upon when we came up on the waiting list, our job was done in December/January -- cold, wet, and not entirely conducive to doing this work. But CJ's workers were here whenever the weather cooperated, and we are completely pleased with the outcome in both the front and back of our house. CJ is incredibly professional and open with the process. He tells you what to expect, and then everything proceeds exactly as he said it would. No surprises here. When the work commences he does a terrific job of checking the work and keeping you informed of what to expect based upon weather. And unlike other contractors we've worked with who treated every question as an opportunity to increase the price, that was not the case here. "How much more will it cost to use brick on the fire pit and sitting wall than concrete?" resulted in this immediate response from CJ: "nothing." After getting a number of estimates, we contracted with Salzano to replace our old brick patio with a new flagstone patio on a concrete foundation. Their price was competitive, and their work was outstanding. After removing the old brick and leveling the ground, they poured the concrete foundation, making sure that the slope was away from our house. Then, a few days later, when the concrete had set, they cut and mortared in the flagstones. CJ Salzano was our main point of contact, and he was always very responsive. The 2 crews that did the actual concrete and masonry work were very friendly, and were very respectful of our property. (When they left, you honestly didn't even know that they had been there.) We hired Salzano Concrete to rip up the asphalt and put in a reinforced concrete driveway at our house in 2006, and I was VERY pleased with Mr. Salzano's professional service and reasonable price. He made a deal with us and our next door neighbors. We both wanted to have our driveways done in concrete. By doing them both at the same time, we shared the cost of the demolition crew and haul away of the old driveway materials. They did a beautiful job on our driveway. I still think it was money well spent. It doesn't have to be resealed every year or two like the asphalt. It's not as hot in the summer and won't burn the kids' feet if they go out barefoot. It got rid of a sinking dip in our driveway, and it just looks a lot nicer. We also had them replace our dilapidated slate steps leading up to the front door. They designed and created some very nice curved steps for us. They can also do some really amazing things with colors and patterns in the concrete to make it look like cobble stones or slate stones or bricks or whatever else you could possibly imagine. We just went with the plain concrete so it would match our front porch. If any friend of mine was looking for a contractor to do concrete work on a driveway or patio, I would not hesitate to recommend Salzano Concrete. Why did I give it 4 stars instead of 5? Only because I don't have anything to compare it against, so I don't know if there's better out there. We had a wonderful experience with Salzano Concrete! We were having a hard time deciding if we wanted to do our walkway in Flagstone or concrete. Salzano's stamped and stained concrete made our decision easier. They are the only company in the AREA that does such detailed staining (there was actually a women who comes and paints each "stone" she has a great eye for color and really adds the look/feel we were going for). Their estimate was exactly on point, they charged us what they said they would (Most competitive of 3 bids that we got for this job). They completed the job when they said they would (we did flexible schedule so it would get done sooner and it worked out GREAT, they have a long waiting list, but it is WORTH the wait!!!!. All of their crew were extremely professional. Words of caution: the concrete when finished as stone can be slippery on steep inclines in the rain and snow. This is a follow up to my first review of the work that CJ Salzano had done to our pool patio & stairs back in Sept. 2009. On 2/20/2010 my husband & I had let our dogs out & we were able to see our patio for the first time in almost two weeks after having almost 3 feet of snow on it. We were however shocked to see what was underneath the snow... The overlay which is SUPPOSE to be the thickness of "two credit cards" had formed air pockets/bubbles underneath, mostly along the crack lines (which shouldnt be there in the first place because its a brand new concrete poured slab). Not only were there air pockets, but the more larger ones had cracked open like egg shells & peeled off the concrete all together. I was also surprised to see that the overlay was no where near two credit card thickness', it was more along the lines of being the thickness of a sheet of paper & in some areas, transparent. I immediately took pictures of it, to show the cracked portions as well as at an angle so you could see the bubbled areas that hadnt cracked open yet. I then sent the pictures along with an email to CJ explaining what we had just found. He then sent his brother out to view the damaged area's & we were told that they would get back with us & let us know "when" it would be fixed. We were promised the entire spring & summer that the peeled off overlay would be repaired, however they could not match the current color of the overlay on the patio & therefore since the colors wouldnt match, it would appear as though there were patches all over the patio in the areas that were fixed. These are large areas, so not something that could be hidden. I refused they're offer to fix anything UNLESS they could match the color of the overlay they put down at the beginning of the project. I was very clear that if they were going to fix anything, that the colors must match what was put down in the beginning & that I did not want patches of different colors all over the place. The crack in the patio at this point has now extended the entire length of the slab & has also split into a "Y". The cracks in the stairs are now up to the third stair & there are several cracks elsewhere on the stairs. when the patio & stairs get wet, it looks like a road map from all the smaller cracks. The overlay, which is suppose to be a yellowish/cream color on the stairs & slab has now started to fade to a white color in areas. CJ's brother Frank, claims its due to moisture coming up from the ground & the grass around the patio. The entire patio has multiple stains all over it from the natural elements such as tree leaves, flowers, mulch, ect.... anything that gets on this overlay & remains there for more than a day, discolors the patio, so within 8 months of having this work done, my patio looks as though its 10 yrs old, not 8 months old. During the summer of 2010 while waiting for the patio to be repaired of the peeling overlay, some cheap, off the counter pesticide had spilled onto the patio, by the time I got to it & washed it off, it had already eaten through the overlay down to the concrete. This was a $6.00 bottle of generic pesticide that had something like 3% active ingredient in it. We were told that this overlay product was super strong & durable & would look new for many yrs to come. I have since taken new pictures of what our 1 yr old patio looks like today & as you can see, it looks as though its been sitting for yrs without any care given to it. Please view the new pictures added. In Sept 2010 I received an email from Frank, Cj's brother (CJ no longer wanted to deal with the problems & handed the project off to his brother to handle) that any offers to fix the peeling overlay & to fix the area of a separate slab that they cracked with they're jack hammer, would no longer be offered, as they felt that since the peeling overlay was along the cracks in the slab, that this fell under they're so called "hairline" crack policy & would not be covered under the warranty. I dont know how you can call these cracks "hairline" when I can fit a nickel into them. So therefore they would not be offering any type of repair to any damaged part of the patio. I have contacted & retained a Construction Attorney & with over 300 pictures, a year & half worth of emails with many promises to repair & admissions of errors & a couple audio recordings of promises to repair areas of the patio, as well as Frank stating that "I picked the worst color possible to hide any flaws & cracks in the patio" ( I wasnt aware that I needed to pick a color that would hide cracks & flaws, I guess they knew something I didnt such as there would be damage). When I informed Frank that I had retained an Attorney I received another email approx. 5 days later offering to pay us $500.00 to settle & release them from liability. We refused & plan on suing. read more

We started off by requesting estimates from 10 companies, as you can imagine the range of the estimates was a few thousand dollars difference. After narrowing it down to 3 companies, we asked numerous questions and sought ideas from the companies on shape, style and what to do with our existing wooden staircase from the porch. Hands-down Salzano Custom Concrete provided the best feedback and customer service. CJ (owner) was extremely responsive to our emails (several) and always friendly. CJ explained everything to us in detail and came back a couple of times (at our request) to review options for the project. He had great ideas for the shape and really put some thought into what we could do with the existing stairs. The majority of the other companies just suggested to replace the stairs which was roughly a $2,200.00 expense. Due to his good reviews online, the great interaction we had thus far, and the examples of the quality product he provides, we decided to go with Salzano Custom Concrete. There was a waiting list in order to get our project in the queue - our project was projected to be started about 6-8 weeks out. Well worth the wait! It actually gave us some additional time to change the design once again and decide on upgrading the concrete's coloring. When the project was about two weeks out from starting, CJ stopped by once again to spray paint the patio's layout and discuss any final changes. Two weeks later CJ emailed that his crew would be out the next day to start pouring the concrete. The crew arrived on-time and were very friendly. They worked all day with little time for breaks. A couple of days later the crew came back out again to seal the concrete. We just had a stamped concrete patio with 2 sitting walls added to our townhouse back yard. My husband and I additionally chose the multicolor with grout option and couldn't be any more pleased with the end result!! Throughout the process which lasted about 10 days due to heavy winds and rain MANY neighbors came by to both admire and inquire as we are the first in the neighborhood to add a ground level patio. Previously neighbors have chosen to build 2-story decks although I feel that may change in the future. While 2-story decks are certainly lovely they also provide restrictions as to 'size' which does not occur when adding a ground level patio. As in our case, we have 4 grown children with children of their own thus our patio provides more than ample space for a weekend cookout or family gathering. The bottom line. We are very happy with the work that Salzano Custom Concrete preformed. It took a while to become a reality but again it was well worth the wait and every dollar invested!! We just had a rear patio, side path, and front walkway project done by CJ and we couldn't be happier. We were choosing between dry-lay paverstone, natural flagstone, or stamped concrete. And to be honest, all the dry-lay paver stone contractors fed me stories about the horrors of stamped concrete. I went with CJ, have had the project for about a week now, and all I can say is: don't listen to them! We live on a slope, so every dry-lay paverstone contractor told me that we had to lay a concrete slab foundation and retaining wall (at considerable extra expense). CJ's product - one huge concrete slab and built-in retaining wall by design (how ironic) - looks as good or better than anything they offer, but is done at half the cost, because it is one complete solution. If you have sloping problems, don't even consider paver stone. So what about flagstone? Same thing for slopes - it will take concrete footing work, at considerable extra cost (probably b/c they need to hire a guy like CJ to pour the footer anyways). So, we were going to go with stamped concrete. But who does one trust? That comes down to asking around, reading reviews, obtaining reference lists, and, when ready, driving around for a weekend. But even amongst concrete contractors, CJ would be my pick: he comes across as an artist more than a contractor, and offers flagstone, tile, and even patterned inlay options - making the color, patterns, and shape of your project limited only to your own imagination. We now have a gracefully-flowing patio with two patterns, divider steps, and decorative borders. Can't do that with cobblestone or flagstone! Furthermore, his product looks so much like real flagstone and tile I've had people ask me where I got my stone/tiles from!!! What a compliment!! Best bet, of course: always do a driveby of any contractor's previous work. CJ is proud of his work, for good reason: he listens to you, shares his opinions, and makes tweaks to ensure the project comes out just as you imagined it. When the forms are laid and are not quite right, he didn't mind telling the guys to rip it up and make the adjustments...however small. The whole experience - from meeting him to seeing his work both online and in the neighborhoods, to doing the actual project itself - was top-notch. I'm not paid to write this but I can't be happier!
