We loved working with Custom Stonescaping. From the initial design meeting through to completion we had such a positive experience. Working with Horacio was great. We felt like he always kept us updated on progress, kept the three week project on schedule, asked for feedback and was open to our small design additions as the project progressed. The crew that were at our house M-Th for three weeks were all fantastic. Their work and craftsmanship were excellent, they were super friendly, and they cleaned up every single day before they left the job site. We are so happy with our new porch/walkway/driveway. read more

I want to preface this by saying that we had Custom Stonescaping re- do our back porch a few years ago, and they did a great job and we had a great experience with the person in charge of the job. So, we decided to bring them back this year when our front walkway was quite literally falling apart. Pros: they do good work. Cons: the crew will pee on your property. Not in a bathroom. Outside. And then they will lie about it. To add more context- the crew was working on my FRONT walkway. They made it a point to let themselves in my BACK yard through the gate, walk to the corner of my yard where my shed is, move a gate that was blocking a space next to the shed, and peed there. Several of them did it the second they began the job. The owner doesn't care and will turn it around to make you look like the problem. So, if you're cool with that, then go ahead and move forward with them. However, know that you'll be paying a premium price for a company and project crew that couldn't care less about disrespecting you or your property. Just an honest review. It's unfortunate, but if that's how Jeff wants to run the business, then that's his problem. read more

Once again Custom Stonescaping did an outstanding job for us - this time installing natural stone veneer with flagstone caps on our 125 ft stamped-concrete 5-6 ft high retaining wall, building a flagstone pathway surrounded by river-jack, and re-parging a 2- 3 ft high retaining wall. Jeff the owner is great to work with, very responsive, and personally engaged from project vision & scoping through completion & followup. The foremen who worked on our project - Juan, Alejo, Benny, and William are amazing dedicated professional artisans who led their hard-working teams by personal example and ensured precision with every stone cut, placed, and mortared. When I called him back about an issue with the low-voltage transformer and Wifi-plug configuration for the patio & wall lighting, he immediately got involved to ensure it was resolved to my satisfaction. Like our patio with gas fire-pit project a few years ago, we are very happy with the outcome of this project! The qualitative and visual improvements Custom Stonescaping's expert design and craftsmanship has brought to our property is amazing! read more

This is the second project Ron and his two teams have done. It was a tricky effort with a very steep hill that sloped to the side as well. Not to mention erosion issues and invasive bamboo. A complete re=do of side yard of our home was necessary. I am a person with mobility impairment who now has an atractive stone walkway, with steps to make the slope walkable and completely attractive planting, river rock and mulch to meet Reston Association design guidelines. Custom Stonescaping crews left our grounds clean and well ordered even in the 100 degree heat of summer 2026. Ron brings exceptional creativity to difficult problems and there is no cookie cutter work planned or executed. The cost was an excellent value. read more

Custom Stonescaping ~ My husband and I are very happy with our replaced walkway in front of our home! It now gives us such wonderful curb appeal in what your company all helped us to attain! Your four masonaries were beyond remarkable, everyday single moment that they were at our house they all worked diligently! They all truly gave their best and never ever let up! With these four amazing men, along with the guidance of patient Ron, my husband and I were able to attain what we had hoped for! Custom Stonescaping provided EXCELLENT communication, a detailed estimate, extremely fast turnaround, and had very reasonable prices. I received multiple contact requests after posting the project on Yelp. Custom Stonescaping was the most professional of all the providers that reached out. Of the estimates I received, one was absurdly high, one was absurdly low, and two were comparable. Custom Stonescaping was in the middle. Nick (the owner's son, and owner of his own landscaping company) provided oversight of the project and the work was completed in one 8 hour day by his crew. I cannot recommend Custom Stonescaping highly enough. I'm very satisfied with the finished product. The project was installation of a 70' x 3' gravel path with edging, and a few hundred feet of mulch and yard edging. read more

We could not be happier with Custom Stonescaping. We had an extensive project done, including a backyard stone patio, chimenea, outdoor kitchen/grilling area, storage area, retaining wall, side walkway, front walkway and landscaping. We interviewed three or four different companies for the project and ultimately chose Custom Stonescaping. We are so glad we did. Not only were they competitively priced, but they were responsive, easy to work with, thorough and do amazing, quality work. We had several meetings and calls with our project manager and engineer, Horacio, at the outset of our project. Horacio designed a beautiful layout that incorporated everything we needed and wanted. Throughout the process, he was extremely communicative and gave us advance notice on everything - decisions that needed to be made, when the crews would be arriving, next steps... you name it, Horacio was on top of it. The offered a full service experience that was absolutely stellar. If I could give them 10 stars, I would. read more

Custom Stonescaping did a fantastic job on our yard - removing the derelict old patio, pouring a new foundation, adding flagstones, and regrading around the house. When estimating the project, Jeff walked the property himself, and he provided very reasonable, budget-conscious recommendations about what work needed to be done. His quote came in much lower than other companies, and he was able to get everything done on schedule and at the promised price. read more

We love love love the new backyard space. We've used the fire pit every night, the hammock most days and we've had meals out on the patio. The front wall gets all kinds of compliments from the neighbors. The team was fast, professional and friendly. They went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and they responded well to all questions and requests. If money had no limit, we'd keep going! Ron led our project with great detail. read more

Custom Stonescaping submitted one of three estimates for a French drain to deal with runoff from a neighbor's property during rainstorms. Though their estimate was far from the lowest, their proposed design was clearly both the simplest and most comprehensive to deal with the problem. The work was done efficiently with few immediate problems; however, in spite of repeated assurances about the viability of transplanted vegetation, we will have to replace quite a bit of shrubbery and most likely a plum tree close to the excavation site. So though the project entailed these "hidden costs," overall we were happy with Custom Stonescaping. One caveat: After the completion of the project, we asked for estimates for some minor masonry and a modification of the drainage system. Custom Stonescaping's estimate for the masonry was double the next highest and more than triple the other estimate we got for the drainage modification in spite of (or maybe because of) our status as a "repeat customer." read more

After many interviews of landscaping companies we went with Custom Stone Scaping after a recommendation from a neighbor, and we're glad we did. Custom StoneScaping did what all others said would be impossible or prohibitively expensive to do. We wanted to move back a retaining wall to expand our small backyard, install drainage and fence in the backyard to give our children some much needed space to play. Jeff personally managed and delivered ahead of schedule everything we asked for and more. All of our questions and concerns were addressed thoroughly and promptly. During the design phase we were able to work with Jeff to come up with a design that fit what we were hoping to achieve and within our budget. Jeff's crews are extremely professional and helpful anytime I had questions or if they had any questions. There were several crews heavy equipment and many interdependencies involved, yet everything went very smoothly. I hope to work with Jef and Custom StoneScaping again soon. read more

We have done 3 projects with this company and are extremely happy with the results. We had our flagstone walkways replaced, our stone patio redone with a pergola and we corrected a flooding problem in our back yard with a beautiful rain garden. Custom Stonescaping did a phenomenal job completely redoing our pond and helping us install and landscape our hot tub. We are thrilled with the results, the lighting looks fantastic. We very much look forward to doing a phase 2 with them when we redo our patio. Jeff was very responsive, and Juan and his team are excellent at masonry. We were very happy with the work of Custom Stonescaping. We had them power wash and reset the stonework around our pool. Upon commencement of work they found that the drainage system in the pool deck wasn't functioning and found the cause of the problem and replaced the faulty pipe. I want to strongly thank Custom Stonescaping for the great work they did at my home. The new driveway looks great, along with the flagstone walkway extension out to it. Not Reliable!!!! This Company was working at the neighbor's behind us. They knocked on our door asking if they could go into our back yard to pick up branches that had fallen. This is NOT what happened! Next I knew they were Dropping very large parts of the tree into our yard causing damage to the grass. But worse is when the pull one end of my grandchildren's swing set out of the ground and move/twisted it. They semi put it back but it is now not properly secured anymore and parts have been compromised. I did speak to a John B and he said he would come by and correct issues. We have yet to see or hear back from him or anyone else at the company. And to top it all off they still did not clean all of the mess in our yard. VERY DESRESPECTFUL!!!!!!! read more

I suggest you avoid this company. They do not understand drainage issues and could damage your home. We had a retaining wall built by this company. They ripped up the yard way more than was needed and created drainage issues in our yard and crawl space with the design. read more

The team at Custom Stonescaping are very professional, they built a stone patio for us. Jeff managed the work step by step under schedule exactly. They are considerable with all of the details related with the patio that you don't know, everything is reasonable, even exceed our expectation. We feel very comfortable to deal with the team. We had a great experience with Custom Stonescaping! They were quick to come out to our house and work with us to design a backyard that fit our needs and was in our budget. Ashley was very helpful, answering all of my questions quickly via email or phone call. Jeff, the owner, even came out at the beginning and end of the project to check on everything. The quality of the work they did was excellent, and they worked quickly and efficiently, completing an overhaul of our townhouse backyard in a little over 2 days. Their show room in Arlington is a great way to see products they offer. Great local business! read more

Flaky and shady company. Received a free estimate on 10/13/20 but did not hear from them even after a week. Was ready to write them off thinking that they did not want the business but finally received an estimate on 10/26/20. Had questions about the estimate because I needed details. Was told on the email with the estimate to call Jeff Reynolds (the person who did our estimate and who happens to be the owner) directly if I had a question, which I did. No response after a couple of days. Called the company and was told to send them an email which they will forward to Jeff. No response for a couple of days again. Called the company again this morning and said that I still have not heard back from Jeff by phone nor by email. At that point, I asked if I could have a different person I could speak to and eventually deal with if we proceed with the project since we've had no responses from Jeff. Was told that I will need to have another estimate if I want to switch to another designer. I said that didn't make sense (especially since the person who gave me the estimate was the owner so wouldn't they agree with him?) so the Admin person said she would ask Jeff. Many hours later, still no response. Finally gave up and sent them an email saying not to bother since we are no longer interested in doing business with the company. I mean, I tried to do business with them but for some reason, they were not interested even though they did send an estimate. Very strange. In addition, their website does not mention anything about a minimum. They will only tell you about their minimum ($7,000) when they schedule the estimate. And for most folks, it's really hard to know how much the cost will be. That's why you have the company come over to do an estimate! Lastly, when Jeff came over he did not wear a mask although he kept at a distance. And after he left, it dawned on me that he did not take measurements. The whole experience with this company was very strange and a waste of my time. read more

I had just bought a vintage mid-century post-and-beam built into a hill, and after a few months realized that the hill I fell in love with was a drainage and erosion nightmare! To this end, Jeff and his team at Custom Stonescaping really delivered! After discussing needs and ideas both in-person and over the phone, as well as the constraints of my budget and aesthetic objectives, Jeff proposed addressing the replacement of a long-failed double timber retaining wall with a new one made of stacked stone. We additionally addressed severe erosion and drainage issues at the property through addition of two swales, underground piping and other considerations. The finished product looks great! Installation was remarkably fast - only four days, if I recall correctly. I appreciated the detail Jeff and his team put into the project -- like the boulders that became features on the wall, or the fact that my existing plantings and landscape wiring was largely undisturbed. Jeff's teams were professional and took care to clean up every day. Team members were respectful, wore uniforms and otherwise were good temporary neighbors. Excess fill from some of the projects was used to level the yard, which had been worn from erosion from previous neglect. The wall is SOLID - will probably outlast the house. My house is on a steep hill and has many landscaping projects ahead of it. I will definitely call Custom Stonescaping when it comes time to tackle the next ones! read more

Custom Stonescaping has done two projects for us in the past year. Overall, the work has been reasonable, although the attention to detail has been a concern. For example, as the two projects were connected to each other--first a patio, then a path leading from it--it was essential that the pavers match. When they started installing the pavers for the path, it appeared to me that the color differed from those installed for the patio and commented on it to the crew foreman. He assured me that the apparent difference was due to the patio pavers having been exposed to the weather for a while and the new ones would look the same after a few months. Well, that didn't happen. So now we have a patio of one color and a path leading from it of a different color. Not a life-altering situation, I know, but certainly one that will remain annoying for many years to come. When I brought this to the attention of the company's representative, he wrote back: "I ordered the same material so not sure...This is the first I heard of it. I dident notice when I was thier." I hope that it's reasonable to expect more than this. read more

Excellent and reliable work. Great customer service and advice from Ron, lead Sales guy for us. Benny and his crew were professional and courteous the whole time. Follow up customer service has been disappointing. Three years ago they did a great job putting in a stone patio in our back yard and it was based on a recommendation from our next door neighbor who got theirs done two months earlier. Since then we've had issues with the patio and they have given us the hands off response when we've contacted them. But when our neighbor calls with the same issues on their patio they've corrected them. This last time I was told we had a 3 year warranty and it was up and now if we want them to fix issues it will cost us $1000! When my neighbor was told had a warranty that was for 5 years! Unbelievable and disappointing. Buyer beware. read more

Not nice unless you have $$$. My family (two small children) would love a patio in the backyard of my townhouse. I was really looking forward to working with Custom Stonescaping after getting a referral from a friend. Unfortunately their minimum for work in Maryland has been raised to $15000. They are unable to help and couldn't refer me to anyone else other than Home Advisor. I'm very disappointed since my friend in Silver Spring had a great experience with this company. Don't call them for small jobs. read more

Custom Stonescaping did a beautiful job with stone work in my backyard! They built up stone barriers to prevent mulch from sliding down during rainstorms, and did some general cleanup to make the yard look tighter, with clean lines and edges. They were quick and responsive to my needs when I had some follow-up requests on the job as well. This is not necessarily the cheapest option, but I've learned that you often get what you pay for, and you can trust Jeff's team to be honest and professional and do the job right. read more

Custom Stonescaping installed a very nice stone patio for us about 4 years ago. Over time, the stone dust between the stones settled, and a few stones cracked and disintegrated, so a few months ago, we hired them to come top up the stone dust and replace the stones that had disintegrated. They did a very nice job, but we found that within a few weeks, the new stone dust really settled a lot. We requested them to come back and do another top up. Without any question, they did that, so now the patio is about as good as new! They were very responsive. We've been very happy with this company, and would recommend their work. read more

The craftsmanship for the stone work and carpentry work is excellent. If you're looking for a great local small business to do a project for you, look them up. read more

We had an outstanding experience recently redoing our back yard with Custom Stonescaping. They quoted a competitive price, started the job before the estimated start date and completed it well in advance of the promised end date. Both the manager, Ron, and the crew were highly professional, responsive and a pleasure to deal with. We also loved the back yard design they created and the excellent quality of the job they did. After having had negative experience with two other landscaping companies, we were pleasantly surprised by the outstanding service we received from Custom Stonescaping. They earned an "A+" in every category and are just outstanding in my perspective. The whole job simply could not have gone any better. They are honest, reliable, professional and customer-friendly. The office staff also deserves a high praise as they answer emails promptly and made us feel welcome when we visited to select the materials. Also, it is important to note that there were no hidden charges or cost overruns. They will be our go-to contractor going forward for other jobs we have planned. I would recommend them to anybody without any reservations -- they are a terrific company all around. read more
