They are barely busy, the service is horrible and the food is sloppy. Just confirmed, we have the worst server on earth. Food was really bad. Same tortillas my wife buys, but at least she warms them. Steak are leftovers and over cooked. read more

I've been here a few times and always had a good experience. The chips and salsa are fresh and tasty. It's typical Americanized Mexican food but the ground beef usually has a good flavor and the rice and beans are cooked well. I really enjoy the atmosphere for some reason, sitting under the little awning makes it feel private and maybe a little more upscale than it actually is. Downsides would be that they only have their house hot sauce which is much spicier than the Cholula I usually use. Servers are sometimes less attentive than we would like. I also haven't branched out on the menu much but the chile rellenos and burritos are as good as any cheap Mexican in Birmingham. Will be back! read more

I personally love this location. The staff is wonderful and the food is great. I felt driven to write a review due to the lack of honest ones posted. The people who work here are hard working and honest. If you have an issue, tell them and I'm sure they'd resolve it- no problem. I wouldn't know as I never have issues with this establishment. Often people only write reviews when they have a problem, not so much when they have a good experience. So, I am here to write positively for a wonderful restaurant. The chimichanga is one of the best in town and the margs are amazing. In a time like this, we have to appreciate craft when we see it. read more

It was OK. Nothing great. Could tell my hubby didn't care for what he ordered. He said the chicken was bland and didn't even want to take home leftovers. Dogs enjoyed it anyway. I had the grilled shrimp tacos and the shrimp was anything but bland. It was really tasty! I enjoyed mine that night and the next day too. The kids got nachos which she didn't rave about but the kid doesn't like anything so don't take her word for it! Lol Affordable, average Mexican. Nothing to write home about. read more

They give you burnt steak. The waiter never checked on us, I had to stop him as he was going to a table for water and napkins. Didn't eat 50% of my food and they would not refund. It doesn't matter if I tell you the food is terrible right when I get it or after it sits. If I didn't eat it, then I didn't eat it. I do not tip for bad food nor mediocre service. Pina Colada was good though. Keeping this on record just in case they try to write a tip in. read more

I can safely tell you that Fronterra has the fastest service I've ever encountered. Like, the waiters run kind of fast. The food is just fine. Nothing to write home about, but fine nonetheless. It's usually pretty crowded, but since it's a big space, I've never had to wait more than a few minutes to be seated. Once seated, you receive chips and salsa almost immediately and drinks come within a minute or two. If you're in a hurry and want decent Mexican food, Fronterra is your place. read more

This is my second trip here. The salsa and taco salads are very good. Quick customer service.

LOL...I have to tell you my favorite part about this place is the running waiter!!!! I really like the food here (Carnitas are my fave!) and so does my family. The salsa is always good, typically a little spicier than some others, but that's a plus in my book. The fajita nachos (our gauge for comparing Mexican places) were good and the steak was well-seasoned. Carnitas come with all the trimmings, and are hot and crispy. The margarita...well, I can say the price is fine. If you've had one frozen margarita, you've had them all, and this is in that category. Parking is ample and the atmosphere is festive. Staff is always friendly and fast. read more

Friendly staff clean restaurant. Prompt service. Extremely bland food. The guacamole was canned not fresh and there was no seasonings of any kind of the meals. I do not recommend this location read more

Hoover's most okayest Mexican restaurant. Actually there are more OK places than this. Basic Mexican fare, just average. Even the margaritas are just ok. Pros, though, are that it's clean, service is friendly, and it's close to Target. There are other basic places within a mile or two. I recommend trying those... read more

In a town with so many options for Mexican food, and some that are really good, a three star rating isn't that bad. Restaurant is good sized and the staff is very friendly. I have been here a few times and typically just order something at the bar to go. Prices are average with other Mexican places in town. I went with the Steak Taquitos tonight. They package everything well and give you chips and salsa with the to go orders. Note, a nice touch, they seem to warm the chips extra for to go orders. By the time I got home the chips were still hot to the touch. Their salsa is average compared to the others around town. The taquitos were good, but for the price I was a little surprised they didn't include rice or beans. That is my fault because the menu actually didn't say that it came with either, but I made an assumption that all entrees included one or both. Again flavor is good, but should include at least one side for the price. I'm guessing a relatively large group had been there just before I arrived because several tables were pushed together and it was far from the cleanest I have seen them. Lot's of food (primarily broken chips) all over the floor. They are close to home and nice. Real convenient so will probably return from time to time to change things up. read more

Despite the not-so-great reviews I popped in here for a quick lunch while shopping. Quick is an understatement. I was seated immediately, water, chips & salsa at my table before I could even look st the menu, and after ordering my meal arrived in probably about 3 minutes. I was pleasantly surprised to see they offered lunch specials even on a Sunday & I ordered 2 tacos with a side of beans. I asked for no lettuce (does anyone actually like warm soggy lettuce bits on their tacos or on top of their beans???), and although they left it off as the 'garnish' on the plate, the tacos still had the lettuce. Otherwise however it was a good meal, fast & cheap (can't beat $6!), and I will be back when shopping in the area. read more

Decent Mexican restaurant, however light years better than Habaneros Mexican Grill, which was where I went last time in town and was horrible. The Margaritas were ok, coulda used some more Tequila. My Pork Carnitas came out very fast, like Jimmy Johns fast, but were actually pretty good. Not up to the places I have back home, but not a bad experience at all. To the owner: you are missing out on a lot of potential. First thing I noticed, no artwork from Mexico. Get some framed art work and plant life that is relevant to Mexican culture to spruce the place up. Also the bar needs a major overhaul. It's a nice bar table and top, but no draft beers and taps, half of the seating potential is taken away by the cash register and the liquor bottles aren't properly on display. The back of the bar needs to be a mirror, it gives those at the bar (with there backs to the door) a chance to see the nice view out the windows behind them and gives a sense of a larger area. Then there should be beer coolers showing what bottles are in house. Presentation is key and can be inexpensive. read more

Food was mediocre, service almost non-existent except to speak quickly, run away and bring bad food faster than Jimmy Johns. No one there made any eye contact whatsoever or said more than one word each time. Chips appeared to be off the grocery store shelf. Will not return. read more

For a few years now I just simply did not go to Frontera, I felt like the food quality was average at best. I recently decided one afternoon to give it another try; I ordered the steak tacos with fresh cilantro, fresh jalapeños, sour cream and onions and I have to say that the tacos were actually delicious! so I'm giving it four stars and putting it back on my list read more

This food at this restaurant was average. Only reason I ate anything was do to the fact that I ordered a pretty large Margarita. The service was good, however the server was very short and you could tell he had lots of responsibility. The atmosphere was ok, but I probably won't eat here again. This visit was more of scratching a particular itch. read more

Wow, this place has gone down hill. Asked for a beer. We're out of that brand. Asked for another brand. Oh yeah, we're out of that brand, too. Finally got a beer. One of the typical spots here in Hoover. We had just been at let's play next door and brought my son over for lunch. It was typical, Mexican lunch food. Very affordable and tasty. We started with the queso. Always a great start! I had the fajitas and my brother had combo plate. I would have like the meat to veggie ratio to be a little more but I ate it all nonetheless and it hit the spot. I love Mexican food, unfortunately one of the things around here is that all the Mexican restaurants seem to be the same. I thing really makes one stand out from the other unless you just got real bad service. read more

This place should be called Fron-terrible Grill. I stopped in here tonight with my 8 year old son for dinner and even he was appalled by how rude every single person in here was. We came in at 8:40, there were a few people at tables and the door said they were open until 10. I asked the hostess if it was too late to be seated and she said no not at all. Right. So she proceeds to seat us in a booth surrounded by filthy tables and booths that employees were frantically scrubbing and sweeping and wiping down; it looked like 26 Helen Kellers just finished trying to play toss our dinners into each other's mouths. A server comes flying past and halts for a second to shout his question of our drink order and keeps going to his other table. He comes back and literally slides/throws the drinks on the table sloshing them all over the place. I felt like we were on a hidden camera game show and he was on a timer trying to win a million dollars for being fast but not nice. He again shouts wanting to know what we want to eat; I decide to cut him some slack on the shouting because I notice my son and I are having to shout at each other to be heard over the music that's at a ridiculously loud volume. He leaves to input our order, it's maybe 8:44 at this point. The employees are frantically cleaning and have flipped every chair not being sat in onto the tables. All the female employees are standing around the cashier/bar area looking really not thrilled to work here. 8:55 our server returns and throw/slides the plates on the table with such force they slide a solid 2 feet and crash into our drinks. So freaking rude. The children's plate with quesadilla and rice and beans was fine my son ate every bite without complaint. I ordered the grilled shrimp tacos with corn tortillas. $14.50. So I'm expected it to be pretty decent. I open the foil and there are 3 soggy flour tortillas steamed into each other sort of stagger stacked on each other and huge serving of grilled shrimp and cooked pico de gallo, otherwise known as sautéed onions and tomatoes...so weird. I was really annoyed that I had to scrape all the shrimp and stuff to the side and peel apart the tortillas (which is why I prefer steamed corn tortillas!!!) and then portion out the tacos myself but whatever. The shrimp were at least good. The server shouted asking if everything was ok without even looking at me as he sprinted by a couple times. Before I'm even done he brings me a to go cup of Coca Cola (thank you) and throws the check on the table and shouts thank you. Like, what is this guy on? Can I get some for Monday morning? We go to the cashier to pay with the über friendly (NOT) grumpy girl working the register. Time: 9:12pm. 32 minutes y'all. Needless to say I won't be back here. As we were pulling out I noticed a family park and start to walk in; I still feel guilty for not warning them to go somewhere else. But hey, they will probably be able to finish eating in the time it would take to drive elsewhere with Speedracer working tonight. read more

I've had a great experience up until today. Female waitress purple braided pony tail chick, had the worst customer service, oh and her little friend. Her and her friend girls poor customer service lead too us not ordering an entree and giving you all a 1 star. If I could give you all zero stars I would most definitely do just that, she went and snickered too her little friends at the bar about the encounter so they all could laugh and be ignorant amongst each other. My wife ordered chicken nachos & asked if they would substitute pico de gallo for the guacamole. The server acknowkedge that they would substitute. We finished our meal which was sub par at best. Upon reveiving our check we noticed there was an additional charge for the pico de gallo. When I brought it to the attention of the lady working the register, I was told there are no substitutions & if it's not on the menu there is an additional charge. Their customer source is horrible. -100 out of 10. I ordered a pick up order and I have a shrimp allergy. I just wanted to make sure that they got it my allergy down. so when I got there I told the lady at the bar what my name was and I had a pick up order with a shrimp allergy and I just wanted to make sure that you guys got that. She told me that I could take the food or leave it. I'm only 16 years old so I was being respectful and said that I just wanted to make sure that you guys got it down. She continued to have a attitude with me. This is not the first time it has happened. I went there another time and they were still rude. The food is good but the customer service is awful read more

I tried this place several years ago back in 2013(ish) and I hated the atmosphere. We came away from the restaurant literally smelling like the smoke from the kitchen. I swore to never return. Fast forward to today and the service was absolutely abhorrent. Trying to be "fast" they totally ruined my daughters order by not listening to her when she ordered. From then on our dinning experience was less than stellar. Far less! Had I listened to my inner voice, we wouldn't have been in this situation because we would/should have went somewhere else. This place will never see another dime from me! P.S. The food leaves something to be desired read more

B'ham area Mexican food. Pretty much all the same. Atmosphere- This is what makes this place stand out. The inside is decorated like you are in an outdoor courtyard café. The booths on the wall have an overhang above them like the awning on a nice little hacienda. the middle area holds the tables and the ceiling is painted a super dark blue with string lights. AND its clean. Staff- I have never been to a restaurant where the staff moved as fast as this place. These people WORK. Food- No better or worse then the other options in the area. I get the same thing everytime at every place we go to and its good. read more

I understand that everyone has rough days but our waiter was so unpleasant and it made us never want to go back :(

Visited restaurant October 22, 2018 for lunch. Chicken taco salad was good. Within 15 minutes I had the beginning of allergic reaction....lips, face swollen, hives ALL over my body. Within 1 hour I was in ER to get medication for trouble breathing. I am from Maryland. When I got home, I made allergist appointment. Have called restaurant several times to ask ingredients in taco sauce so I could tell allergist. Only the manager can tell me. Unfortunately, the manager seems to unavailable whenever I call. I need to know ingredients in chicken taco salad so that I can avoid those ingredients in the future. I now carry an EpiPen. If I know the ingredients in salad, I can avoid those spices in the future. The manager should be in restaurant during the day to talk to me. I have no problem with food, I just need to know ingredients. read more

Had dinner tonight and ordered A chimichanga dinner . Asked the server for cheese and sauce on the side . She said no ! Comes with cheese . Confused I again asked for cheese and sauce on the side and again she said no . Comes with cheese on it . Exhausted by all this I said don't bring it with cheese but on side or I'll send it back . After saying they don't come without cheese she brings me one with no cheese on the side . I asked for cheese for the side and she says you get it on or not at all . I'm not making this up . Manager was equally rude and not going to get cheese for the side . Worst meal I've had in very long time . Never again . Rude is understatement. Went out of their way to be rude to my party of three . Zero reason !!! read more

Food was excellent and restaurant did great job of following COVID precautions. Food was fresh land staff was very attentive.

The food was really good and if I had received even fair service I would have given the place 5 stars. When we arrived we sat for more than 15 minutes with menus in front of us before anyone approached us to taKe our order. A young man finally came over and got the drink order and was preparing them another 5 to 7 minutes. The food came out fast, hot and delicious however he forgot the cheese dip that I ordered when I ordered drinks and I actually had to ask another server for it after the food arrived. Our designated server never came back to check on us, refill our drinks, bring extra napkins for the children, that I had also asked for and when it was time to leave I had to go to the front and ask if someone could get my check for me. He passed my table several times of which I repeatedly said, "excuse me sir" and he acted as if he didn't hear me a single time. My 3 year old grand daughter was with me and begged for chips to go so I asked the girl sitting at the hostess stand for a bag for the chips on our table and expressed my apologies to her for asking but explained to her that the server wouldn't respond to any of my requests. She said "ok" but proceeded to sit on her tail and look to our server waiting on him to help. He never responded to her either so I asked her to please just get me a paper bag and she told me to wait just a minute. We felt totally invisible, disrespected, and ignored the entire evening. This was by far one of my worst dining experiences ever. I never received a bag for the chips and had to tell a 3 year old we could just go to Wal Mart and buy some, she of course left out crying. read more

The staff (and lack thereof) will be the detriment of this place. Ate there as a family last night (on a Tuesday), dining area was maybe %50-%60 filled. There were only 2 waiters in there trying to serve the entire restaurant, 1 hostess running food and taking orders when she could, the other (who is about to have a baby any second now) was at the door greeting people, 1 bartender, and 1 bus boy. Our waiter was sweating and running around like a chicken with his head cut off. The lack of personnel resulted in: no chip refills, no drink refills, no one checking on the food, people staring off into space waiting for someone to take their order, then again after they were finished and had to wave someone down to get the check, and no ketchup for any of my kid's fries. People were having to walk up to the bartender to get things like silverware, napkins, straws, etc.... The food in itself was pretty good but just what you'd expect from your average Mexican food restaurant. 1 star for the service and 1 star for the decent food and frozen margarita.
