My good friends and I ate at Front Street Fish Co today. We were greeted by the sweetest hostess with a bubbly personality. If this is your first visit, you place your order at the counter and grab a seat. They'll bring your freshly prepared order directly to your table. I have been craving fried soft shell crab for weeks and finally had the opportunity to enjoy some! If you don't appreciate them, you don't know what you're missing! I decided to add the premium side Crab Tots ($1.99 when added to the meal). I'd never had them before and will definitely order them again! All of my meal items were served fresh and hot!! Everyone in our group cleaned their plates, so you know the quality and quantity of the food was outstanding! On my way out, I spotted the owner Trey sitting at a booth enjoying his lunch. I didn't want to disturb him, so I offered my compliments to the cashier. As I was telling them how much we appreciated the exceptional food and service, Trey got up from his meal and walked over to thank me for coming in. My sister and I had lunch here and I added on the clam chowder because I can never not get the chowder when I see it on the menu. I have to say, this "chowder" was the worst I've ever had and it's not even close. It tasted, and looked, straight out of a Campbell's soup can. It had hardly no clams and maybe two tiny potato bits. The base tasted just like cream of chicken soup and it was the same consistancy. I even checked with the girl at the front counter to make sure I got the right soup because it was not even close to being a chowder. Even though I didn't like the soup, no one offered to reimburse me for it. All of the other food was ok with the fried shrimp being the best. I went with my wife and friend exploring town. Walking in asked by the young man if this was our first time. It was, and it was a great lunch. We each ordered something different. The amount of food was great. I had fried oysters and clams. The clams had Kelly's. The hushpuppies perfect. Friendly staff great service a place to go back to the next time in town. Popped in for lunch on a Tuesday because I had seen some reviews. This definitely lived up to expectations! I had the Mac Daddy which is a soft shell crab, shrimp and crab cake sandwich. Not sure if they offer it grilled vs fried but fried was delicious. And a reasonable price for this amount of seafood. Also had the crab tots, those are not to be missed. The sauce included with the crab tots was amazing as well. Excellent coleslaw & sweet tea too! The person who took my order and the gentleman who delivered it to the table were both extremely nice, and the food came out quickly. The restaurant itself isn't fancy, but it's what you would expect for a quality fresh seafood establishment with a seafood market next door. Plenty of tables spaced well apart so you can have a conversation and the restaurant itself was very clean. This is a great lunch spot and I can't wait to go back to try more. read more

I ate here in 2019 when it was under different ownership and I had some of the best trout I had ever had even in Louisiana. I went back and was saddened to find the new place didnt have trout on the menu so I ordered the whole flounder which was good but didnt have the flavor of the trout or the previous restaurant. First time there for my wife and I. You order and pay first, then they give you a number and you sit at your table. I decided on ordering a basket of fried flounder with onion rings. We paid extra for the onion rings instead of the standard fries that came with the order, and they always come with hush puppies and coleslaw. My wife ordered a basket of mahi bites and added onion rings to the basket order. They were out of mahi bites so we had grouper basket instead. They make their own tartar sauce and their own cocktail sauce. Cocktail sauce was very on the sweet side and not very horseradish. Both were delicious though. We picked up a bushel of Louisiana oysters last week and they were out of this world!! Not only was the flavor outstanding, but I asked if they'd wash them a couple of times and, sure enough, they were the cleanest oysters we've ever eaten. It was also very organized, clean and they offered many food related accompaniments for the seafood they were offering. Fourth time I've tried this rest. I had an oyster sandwich with a side of slaw which is extra and a fountain soda. The bill was $17.59. The sandwich comes without anything but a bun and few deep fried oysters. The slaw was tasteless and the portion minuscule. If the owners read this. I'm trying to be helpful by saying up your game a little. Put some lettuce anda slice of tomato on the bare bun. Find a decent recipe for coleslaw that's tasty. More mayo would be a start. Make the portion larger. Add a side of hush puppies like other restaurants do. In fact for what you charge you should include at least one side if not two. Make the customer take notice. You're friendly but not very enthusiastic. I'll be back to see if you take my suggestions to heart. This town needs a good seafood dining experience. Plastic forks and cardboard dishes and styrofoam cups are for food trucks not a sit down restaurant. Good luck. read more

Was disappointed with the food. My wife had the grilled grouper and I had the fried grouper sandwich. First, the hush puppies were stale and hard. The fries were also stale. My fried grouper had more breading than fish, and my wife didn't care for her grilled grouper. For comparison, we love these same items at the Fish Hut in Enerald Isle and The Sea Shack in Hilton Head. read more

We love the restaurant and were very excited to support the seafood market side as well. We called ahead to confirm they had crawfish, and the gentleman on the phone said they did. However, when we arrived, we were surprised to be told that they didn't have any. They also didn't have crab legs. It wouldn't have been a big issue if we had simply been told over the phone that crawfish weren't available at the time. Wow, ok, where do I start? I've been living in new bern for 4 years and have been so disappointed by the seafood. We're in NC, we should have all the fresh seafood right? Wrong. Enter, the newly owned Front Street Fish. I went in with some skepticism. Harris Teeter has failed at fresh fish. B&J's is good for nc fish and sometimes lobster but it's hit or miss. Front street has a large variety of actually fresh fish. Cod, somewhat simple right? But I kept getting bad cod from the commercial stores. So I decided to start with that as a test. Holy sh*t, the best cod I've had since I've been in nc. Now I will be trying everything and won't go anywhere else for fresh fish. I'm looking forward to trying the restaurant side for fried clams and oysters. read more

Best seafood I've ever had!! Excellent experience. Owner's-Trey and Eric were around making sure everything was perfect. Great prices. We tried a wide sampling and every dish had great taste. Portions were well above average for a seafood restaurant. We tried the whole flounder, crab legs, crab cakes, mahi tacos, and salmon. I must say, I am normally not a salmon lover but this salmon was by far the best I've ever had! I would eat it every day!! The flounder was off the charts as well! On this visit, the cons outweighed the pros. Keep in mind that the restaurant is new and probably has some kinks to work out. My group ate here for an early dinner and there were only 2 other tables occupied while we were there. The pros: Fried shrimp was very good, slaw very good, and staff was very friendly. The portions were fair for the price. There are lots of options on the menu. The cons: Ineffective air conditioning made it incredibly unpleasant and made us too uncomfortable to enjoy our meal (I even saw one of the counterservice employees wiping the dripping sweat from their face because it was so hot), oysters were WAY overcooked (had shriveled up to nothing), our order took a very long time to prepare (one member of our group who paid separately from us received their order first and was almost finished eating by the time our order arrived) This is a counter-service restaurant. We were instructed to order and pay at the counter, get our own drinks, they would bring the food out to us, and we were to clean up our own table. This is perfectly fine but I have to gripe a bit about being asked to tip at counter-service establishments where I am handling my own drink refills and cleaning up my own table. Who am I tipping and why? Would I return? Probably, but in the cooler months or just opt for take-out. If they can get the a/c issue under control and get their kitchen into a better rhythm, this place could be successful. read more

What an incredible experience and some of the best tasting seafood that we have had in NC. It started off with the service, very personable, friendly and so polite. Order at the counter and find a seat. Food was delivered in less than 15 minutes and was fresh and hot, all together. We had to try a little bit of everything and absolutely nothing disappointed. The king Salmon directly from Alaska was THE best salmon I've ever tasted. Besides the salmon my personal favorite was the Mahi tacos with mango salsa and a tropical salad on top.
