I found From the Heart Physical Therapy a few years back when I had almost lost hope of ever being pain free. I suffer from myofascial pain syndrome. It was very debilitating for me back then. I wasn't able to do many of my daily activities, or exercise, and I had very little energy which made me feel very depressed. Before meeting Sepi, I had had myofascial work elsewhere that was very deep and painful, so I fully expected to be in pain here as well. I was very happily surprised by how gentle Sepi's touch is, and how slow moving her adjustments are. It feels like you're barely being manipulated, but so much change is happening in the body, even from the very first visit. I knew I was in good hands when my muscles relaxed within the first five minutes. After a series of sessions, I feel a lot less pain in my hip and lower back. I also have more strength and mobility and am looking forward to getting back into yoga, which I had to give up for years due to pain. Sepi's treatments are a treat! Her magic hands (transmitting her deep knowledge) are physically effective, and her personality and the whole atmosphere of her "clinic" (much too clinical of a word for it) and kindliness of her staff (that's you, Anna and Alex) emotionally comforting. I feel myself starting to relax even as I walk from my car through the beautiful, serene, park-like garden leading to the entrance. The mood deepens once inside, with the soothing music in the air and the calming decor. And I love that the experience is so personalized: I'm the only client in the gym when Anna puts me through my exercise paces, and in a private room when Sepi works on me. I have had standard PT at several clinics, and they're almost like being in a commercial gym, which I hate. When nothing else has worked there is still hope. After an injury last January and previous spinal fusions as well as a hip replacement I was losing hope in resuming a normal life free of pain. I have undergone several injections a spine surgery and physical therapy since January with very little relief. Then I found Sepi. I have dealt with cervical spinal compression for many years. 16 months ago I fell off a ladder and aggravated that compression and apparently increased the area of compression to C-5-6-7 and T1. Over the past year I have experienced a variety of minor injuries and significantly increased neck pain mostly on my left side due I know specifically from the fall. Additionally I have developed tinnitus (ringing in ears) during this time period. I have been to my doctor - 2 ENTs - chiropractor and acupuncture and I attend yoga classes 3-4 times per week. I have had an MRI on my brain, carotid artery check, x-ray of neck and cervical spine. Nothing really helped relieve my neck pain or my tinnitus. I heard of myofacial release through my wife and sister-in-law. I hoped this might be the answer. I have grown to learn and understand exactly what this process entails and how it works in my first few visits. I realize that this is a process that works meticulously to re-balance the body's structure. During this process my neck pain has dramatically decreased and I can feel the muscles in my neck relaxing for the first time in years. As for the tinnitus.....it is still there but the intensity and volume is more subdued. I've been dealing with a right shoulder injury from Brazilian jiu jitsu. I am a Neuromuscular massage therapist and working on top this injury has made it difficult to heal. Having received my Level I Myofascial certification, which was taught by Sepi. I was hopeful and excited that her clinic was near my resident. Due to my injury I decided to quit (and focus on healing) jiu jitsu, resistance training, spartan training, and marathon training. You know those moments in witch words seem so insufficient to express what you are thinking or how you are feeling? Trying to express my gratitude and admiration for Sepi and Kevin it's almost impossible to put into words. As someone who has struggled with chronic debilitating pain for over 15 years I have tried every type of pain relieving methods. Chiropractic care, acupuncture, herbal remedies, AMA solutions, exercise, traditional massage etc. and yet my pain levels were getting worse. I felt myself slipping into an unhealthy mental state of mind fearing that I would never see a day in witch my pain levels weren't at an extremely high level. One day I stumbled upon myofascial release therapy. After trying another clinic which claims to be doing myofascial release and walking away in more pain then I started I finally found from the heart physical therapy. And the rest is history. I quickly learned that most therapist that claim they are practicing John Barnes myofascial release our indeed practiceing something, but nothing resembling true Jon Barnes Mýa fascial release. My first visit working with Kevin was completely life altering. I'm not an emotional person. But I literally walked out with tears in my eyes. I knew that I had finally found something that would help. I have now been working with them for several months, and the difference in my pain level is so dramatic friends and family around me can visibly see how much it is improving my quality-of-life. My pain went from an average of around 15 on a scale of 1 to 10 down to around five on a bad day. The fascia system is a very complex system, and after so many years of being out of balance and being stressed to its maximum capacity it takes a very long time with some folks to come back in harmony. Myofascial release is not a fast fix it solution. But it is a permanent solution. With that said I noticed immediate relief, and every session is as amazing as the first session. I have horrible adhesions throughout my abdomen going into my back (this is a 'no pain' myofascial release therapy that is nothing less than "exquisite"...) no painful, deep digging and pulling. They use gentle manipulation of the fascial tissue that allows you to feel the release of the underlying scar tissue. My therapist Sepi is so incredibly knowledgeable having learned from John Barnes, the wonderful, loving, wise man who developed this practice in the 1970s and continues to train therapists to this day. Sepi, the main physical therapist at this wonderful center, is not only an experienced and super knowledgeable physical therapist, but also a gifted and amazingly intuitive healer. Unlike any other physical therapy centers, which have not really been of any help to my various problems (severe spinal stenosis, nerve compression to leg making it difficult to walk, spinal instability, fibromyalgia and just general chronic pain), you will get results with "From the Heart PT". I have been told by 4 LA surgeons including Cedar Sinai and UCLA that I need a major back fusion. I have 2 family members that had such operation with unsatisfying results, finding themselves in even more pain in the long run, so I was keen on avoiding or at least delaying such surgery. I have tried acupuncture and chiropractor with limiting or non-lasting results, yoga, pilates (made it worse) and rolfing (somewhat helpful but extremely painful). Sepi, ever so gently and skillfully, manipulates your tissues (fascia) to change your body back to normal (or at least close to getting you back to a stage of less or no pain). To my amazement, Sepi worked a lot on my abdomen slowly freeing my tissue from adhesions (from various prior pelvic surgeries) and with that improving my back pain. I am blown away with how my body has healed from Sepi's giftedness in Myofascial release. Being a massage therapist I've known about MFR for some time now. I came to Sepi to experience this kind of healing approach in hopes that I would want to get trained in it as well. I have suffered from pelvic floor issues and incontinence for years since having children. I did a year of pelvic floor PT and got some relief, but I still had bad enough symptoms that I went ahead and scheduled bladder sling surgery.
