This is a nice little local spot with a lot of personality. While I don't take part in all the festivities, it does seem fun and a great place for the college crowd. It is layback and comfortable. The staff is friendly. As for the food, my favorite dish is the pear and caramelized onion panini (don't knock it 'til you try it). It is the perfect combo of sweet and salty. I get it nearly every time I come. The fries (what they're known for) are good, but hit or miss for me. I have been there about 6 or 7 times. My fries were delicious about half the time. The other half I guess I got the bottom of the batch. They were hard, crunchy and a tad greasy. The homemade sauces are unique. The only one I could really enjoy was the pineapple curry. The other flavors are either too strong or just don't jive well with a fry. The falafel is under-seasoned and very dry. I got the falafel wrap and I couldn't finish it. It just wasn't appealing. The tahini sauce has too much of a mayo taste for my preference. The prosciutto panini is also pretty good. The cheese is a very tasty. I was expecting it to be salty, but it wasn't. As for the selection, this is what keeps it from getting 4 stars. It is limited. I don't expect a lengthy, diner-type menu, but weekly specials would be nice. I have been in the area for 3 weeks and I really don't want to try anything else on the menu. Went at about noon on a saturday, and though it was a little busy, the staff was moving at an absolutely glacial pace. It took my group more than 20 minutes to get 3 sandwiches. We could see the employees literally standing around doing nothing, even though our group and several others had ordered already. On the bright side, the food (especially the fries) were very tasty. Stopped here last Saturday afternoon. Ordered a burger (with bacon) and my wife ordered a steak bomb. We also got an order of small fries. I guess the fries are supposed to be cooked with some sort of Belgian technique of frying them twice so they are "very crispy". We were excited for that. The place was steady but not real busy. You order at the counter and the girl who took our order was friendly. We found a table easily and it was comfortable. Our food came out quickly. My burger is one of the best I've had. Great flavor in the meat and a great roll. Except that there was no bacon. I know I ordered it as the girl at the counter repeated it back to me. Checking my receipt I saw that I wasn't charged for it though - no harm, no foul. My wife insisted I try her steak bomb and it was delicious. Finally, a restaurant who knows about spices. The fries. What a disappointment. Don't get me wrong, they were good. But we were expecting something special and they are nothing special at all. They are ordinary. It was a good sized portion for two people. Not exceptionally crispy - in fact, they were no different than fries we get at most places. Kinda hard to believe they make a point of calling them Belgian Fries as if they are different in some way. Completely anticlimactic but good nonetheless. All in all I like this place and would certainly go back again without hesitation if I'm with someone who wants to try it. The food is generally okay. I've ordered online for pick up twice recently, taking a quick break from work and showing up when the website and email confirmation told me to. Both times the four or five teenage or 20-something employees hanging out, chatting or on their phones, have started to fill the order when I arrived, causing me to wait another 5-10 minutes. Goodish food. Staff always super put out college kids. To be honest the only thing that we come here for is the French fries that use to be always amazing but no lack consistency. Ahhh Fritz! Great atmosphere, food, location, beer, music, it just goes on and on. I've ordered a number of things from the menu at Fritz and have been happy about 99% of the time. Paninis are great and I really like the caprese sandwich. Typically I'll order the Falafel Salad. It is huge but they could definitely add more falafel to it (it comes with 3 falafel balls and they are usually somewhat dry). Fritz is known for its fries, but really its the wide variety of sauces that make the fries so tasty. They give you heaping portions of fries by the way. Beer selection is just great. They have Hennepin bottles, some Stone brewing bottles (usually the smoke porter and IPA), framboise, and some great beers on tap like Hoegarden! The best thing about Fritz is their Thursday night open mic. I've played there countless times and its always fun. Garth, the sound guy is so nice and really cares about how you sound (hard to find at open mics). A large crowd is typical so you get your music out to a lot of people. The atmosphere is laid back, nice colors and lighting, good service, food is served relatively quick and is great quality, beer/wine selection is good enough for this beer snob, and it's located right on Main St. Can't wait to go back. read more

Not very customer friendly. I ordered the $9.00 "special," a Cuban panini described as "a pulled pork sandwich with ham and cheese." It arrived as a essentially a ham and cheese sandwich with 2 small scraps of pork. When I mentioned that the sandwich was not as described, someone from the kitchen came out and disagreed with me. Nice. The place also lacks any atmosphere in large part because it has no music playing. Why? The guy at the counter explained that the owner doesn't want to pay the fee. Pay the fee, man. If I could give this establishment 0 stars I would. My husband and I have gone here for years and within the last few months the "management" and food has gone down the tubes. I have visited this establishment since it opened many years ago in a different location, And I have been a loyal patron for many years. It seems that after a change in ownership, the business has lost much of the character that I came to enjoy. When I walk into the restaurant these days, it seems like a bland, lifeless representation of what I had come to enjoy. The warm, welcoming atmosphere that I grew accustomed to has become a sterile environment that I would expect in a hospital room. Even the staff has become complacent to the below average food offerings. The last time I went to this restaurant, I was served a BLT without lettuce (I mean, its in the name!!!) and when I confronted staff about it, they attempted to make me feel stupid about my menu choice. If this place is going to survive under new ownership, they have some serious work to do. read more

They are not always open the hours they say they are, and you don't find out until you get there. And they don't seem to service the business they do get if things get busy. They have really good food! Always very filling. My favorite is the bacon feta burger. Their French fries are also amazing along with the honey mustard dipping sauce. The customer service is also really good everyone is always super friendly and helpful. It does however get really busy sometimes and the lines can be long. But worth the wait. Arrived in Keene and wanted a good burger. We found Fritz by walking by. We had a Vermonster burger and Dill Harvarti burger- both are excellent!! Vermonster comes with caramelized onions, bacon, and apple slices - try it before you dismiss it because of the apple - it is a really good combination. The dill burger is very good with red onions. Basket of fries also really good available with different dipping sauces. I recommend eating here and will eat here again next time in Kenne. read more

I'm pretty bummed about the most recent changes made at fritz mostly the "policies" and menu changes. You can no longer order a half salad or sandwich. They also have a policy to take pick up orders regardless of whether they are ready even when customers have been wait in line for a very long time. The girl who took my order was extremely rude when I said it didn't seem fair to cash a pick up order out (the food wasn't even ready) when I'd been waiting online for 15 mins while the group in front of me kept adding people to their order and changing items. It took awhile to get out food (family of 4), 3 other groups that ordered after us got their food first. Then we had to send 2 back because they were not made correctly. The sandwiches tasted great. Everyone raves about the fries, a large is almost $7, but ours were hard as a rock. We told the server and they said "yea, these seem overcooked" and then he walked away and that was that. The only non-mayo sauces for the fries are ketchup or BBQ. The dips were really good, but I probably chipped a tooth biting into those fries. I hadn't been to Fritz in awhile. My daughter and I decided it would be a great place for lunch. She was paying as it was my birthday :) I ordered the combo special, 1/2 a panini, small fry, and a soda. It was around $7.00. My daughter ordered a panini, medium fry (wanted some extra to take home), one sauce, and a bottled tea. I was shocked when the total came to $26.00. Could hers' really have cost $18.00 or so? We didn't get an itemized receipt and since it was a celebratory lunch, I didn't want to make a big deal about. On to the food... I would hardly call the turkey sandwich I got a panini. The ingredients were very good, but the sandwich did not appear to be pressed, or if it was, only for a brief moment. The sandwich was not warm and the cheese was not melted. The fries are OK, but you get alot of small pieces of potato, and only a few full length pieces. No sauce was included. Sorry, should not have to pay 50 cents for ketchup for my fries. Years ago, I believe they included one sauce with your order. Apparently, that is no longer the case. For $26.00, we probably could have had a nice lunch at a sit-down restaurant. Fritz is delicious! The only thing I've ever had to eat there was the grilled peanut butter & jelly (it's on the kids menu) because it's so good and I just can't get enough of it. Then there's the fries... mmm. The Rosemary Garlic dipping sauce is to die for! Whenever I go, I go with a big group of friends. They have lots of seating, and I love the cozy comfortable atmosphere. They serve beer, juices, cold teas, etc. There's something for everyone! I'm a vegetarian and the choices are somewhat limited, but better than most places around, and if you're like me and find the thing you love, you won't care that there are only like 2-4 things you can eat on the menu. read more

Stopped here on the way back from Maine to western Mass. Fries & dipping sauces were excellent. Had the 'Vermonter' burger which seemed like an unlikely combination of ingredients but turned out to be quite tasty. Counter service & serving time were all fine. Positive note: The AC was pretty chilly & my elderly dining companion was uncomfortable, so the owner turned off the AC for the duration of our stay. read more

Fritz is one of my favorite places to go for lunch in Keene. The food is affordable & delicious (be sure to try their fries), & the staff is friendly. The only downside to Fritz is that there isn't a ton of seating, so if you come during the lunch-hour rush, you might find yourself without a table to sit at. read more

Hmmm...I thought the atmosphere was a little cheesy, but I enjoyed my lunch. The panini was tasty, although combine with the price for the fries and sauce, I thought a little pricey. Their draw is the sauces, which all seem pretty good. I was drawn in my the special sauce, which they gave some french name to...and turned out to be mayo, ketchup, and onion plopped in a bowl. No one is rushing you out the door. Beer:: Selection is decent - about 20 bottled options if I recall correctly along with some rotating special choices. Fries:: tasty, lots of sauce options. We tried the curry ketchup, spicy chipotle ketchup, pineapple curry, fritesaus, lemon dill and one other.... maybe the rosemary one? Most were tasty, one or two fell flat, none were gross or regrettable. The standout was the pineapple curry sauce. The best burger I ever ate... thats what my husband said after finishing his burger with Havarti made with local beef. I would agree. The local beef is excellent. The Havarti a perfect match and they painni press their burgers so you get a wonderful crunch on the outside and all warm and cheesy in the inside. We got the fries with 3 side dips. The spicy tomato sauce and ranch were our favorites. Too much fries though. Seating is a bit tough and not all the chairs are conducive for eating sandwiches (deep plush arm chairs). read more
