I've never had Cuban food before and this place was really good! I wish I didn't get so full so easily so I could eat more of those GIGANTIC churros that are the length of your arm. The churros are pretty dense so it's a bit more like cake texture wise, and the orange zest is pretty strong. I don't know how many people it takes to actually finish an order after eating a sandwich as well. We had four people and barely made a dent. I picked a pretty basic beef sandwich because I'm a semi picky eater complete with sauce on the side. I really liked it overall but I tried my friend's chorizo one and it had a lot more flavor and saltiness. Gotta get the chorizo next time. Ordering is done when you walk in at the counter and seating is communal style. read more

You're going to love this place. Sure, the menu and ordering process might feel a little intimidating the first time you walk in, but don't sweat it--just let them know you're new, and they'll happily guide you through it. Now, let's talk about the food... outstanding. Every bite--entrées, sides, and dessert (wow!)--was packed with bold, memorable flavors. Even the fries had that perfect seasoning that made them impossible to stop eating. This is the exact opposite of bland--every plate has a punch of personality. Bottom line: when you're in Ann Arbor, you have to check it out. read more

Excellent food and beverages here!! I've tried both the beef and chorizo Frita and I lean chorizo for the flavor. Loco is the way to go but they load it up fyi. Also you really only need a single but I tried a double this time to make sure. It took a serious commitment to finish. I did also add bacon this time, hence forth I will be adding bacon every time so maybe treat yourself to that little taste explosion. The fries on the Frita have great flavor but my advice is to also order the garlic-cilantro side order and split it with someone. So good! As for Batido's, I went back to the coconut cream this time and it was great too so my advice is to order one coconut and one lighter. You're welcome. read more

This is a review of two visits separated by several months. The first failed to post. Always delicious, the chocolate batido, a shake-like, frosty drink, was wonderful. The coconut cream version is amazing: like a cow dropped a gallon of fresh milk into a perfectly ripened coconut, all exploding in a restaurant blender! Watch out for brain freeze though! The beef frita with garlic mayo (the garlic is very restrained) is like the best hamburger ever on a soft bun. It's incredibly delicious and cooked to order. Other protein choices include fish, chickpeas and black beans and more. Plantain chips are perfectly seasoned lightly with salt and the avocado dip is great--savory with a slight nip! You can choose not to order a bun or fries which you should get anyway because they are delicious and crispy and have a nice, not too salty seasoning. This place is based on counter ordering and you pick your own seat among long picnic style tables that could easily hold 20 tiny people and six to eight large people. The ambience is cheery and bright and upbeat. The staff are cheerful and get the orders in quick even when it's busy as it was the second visit. read more

hard for me to describe how incredible this place is! I will always go out of my way to go here anytime I am in AA. Highly recommend the beef burger and make it loco! the salsa is tangy and delicious and the avocado perfectly rounds out the burger. The batidos are also delicious, my favorite being the coconut one. the line is often long here, but it is well well well worth the wait. I will 100% be back again and again! read more

Do you like your burgers raw? Do you like your burgers raw after you request while they're cooked for longer than usual due to the fritas always being raw? Then this is the restaurant for you! The quick service definitely reflects the raw burger impeccably. It is quite almost busy with crowded shared bench seating indoors and outdoors. read more

O M G. This was our very first stop for food on our trip to MI & I am still thinking about it days later. Two of us split the Beef Double Frita and Made It Loco - which was EPIC - and the twice fried plantains. Every bit was divine - rich, flavorful, savory, and the plantains added some sweetness. The dipping sauce for the plantains was fire. We loved the vibe here - plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. You walk up to order and sit down until they bring it out to you you. We played dominoes at the table while waiting, so fun! We really enjoyed this stop & would return if we were staying longer. read more

I love this place, have to be honest how disappointed I was bringing my daughter and getting the kids meal. Supposed to be grilled cheese, is just a hamburger bun with a piece of cheese, basically uncooked. I know kids meals aren't fancy stuff generally, but could be a bit better than this right? Sharing just to maybe spur some improvement read more

Love this place, and their Detroit location too. Burgers and drinks are good. I've never had a burger that has fries on it before, and now it seems totally natural to add fries to it wherever I go. Staff is excellent; this location is always busy with students so I gotta hand it to them. Place is loud always (because they're busy always) but it doesn't really wreck my experience. We usually go to the Detroit location because it's not ever as busy as this one and in a more scenic area, but it's the same food and same service. read more

DELICIOUS!!! Got the og beef burger, tender meat and their sauce is spectacular. The cream of coconut drink was fabulous as well. It was definitely tasty but some of the flavors were too overpowering for me when it came to the dish's overall creaminess. However, I do understand that the burgers are the signature dish. I'm in love with this place! The Cuban twist on burgers and fries was so unique and tasty. There are many options for your build-your-own burgers - meats, veggie, fish. I got the chicken with tropical slaw and fresh jalapeño (SO FRESH). It comes with a decent number of fries stacked on top of the patty. We also ordered the crisped plantain with avocado spread. So flavorful! The place was super aesthetic throughout with both indoor and outdoor seating. And the music playing outdoors was such a vibe! Service was great as well. There was a guy who came around and made sure everyone had waters. It's the little things that make the biggest impact! read more

As many others have mentioned, Frita Batidos is an Ann Arbor institution at this point. It's made at least one Yelp list for best burger. The food is Cuban street food inspired, with fritas, which are burgers or sandwiches, and batidos, which are delicious milkshakes that you can make boozy with the addition of rum. They also have some sides and other drinks, like juices and lemonades. Order at the counter and then find a seat - luckily we were there at an off time, so our group of 11(!) got a couple tables outside with no problem. We weren't sure if we had to wait for our food inside, but they do bring it out to you, which is really nice. Everything came out quickly. The fritas are pretty big, and they're covered in fries. If you know me, you know I LOVE fries, so this makes me really happy. The fries are shoestring and salty, a bit crispy, and delicious. I'd had the chorizo frita before and remembered it being a little too intensely salty for me, so I went with the chicken frita this time. You can add all kinds of toppings, so I asked the employee for a recommendation and ended up with avocado spread, cilantro lime salsa, and thick cut bacon. The toppings can add up quickly in cost, but honestly you can probably just get a frita without any toppings and I'm sure it would still be good. Nate and I also got a passionfruit batido to share. The chicken frita was really good! It's a ground chicken patty and it wasn't dry at all. The passionfruit batido stole the show for me, though. It was so deliciously creamy and full of fruit flavor. I'd get my own and not share next time. Frita Batidos is a tasty spot with unique food - it's definitely worth a visit. It's not a place I need to go every time I'm in town, but I did enjoy this experience. read more

I absolutely LOVED my visits to Frita Batidos. I didn't know what to expect, but my mom was insistent on dining here because of its impressive status on Yelp. I was excited to give the restaurant a shot too even though there was an hour long wait. I was not disappointed. The two times that I ate at Frita Batidos I've tried the fish frita with the cilantro lime salsa, the chocolate espanol, a rice bowl with chicken, the shoestring fries and the light bright salad. I absolutely loved the food, and the elite status for this restaurant is well-deserved and worth the wait. Our server Mike was also amazing. He was friendly, accommodating, and really on top of things. If you finding yourself dining at Frita Batidos be sure to ask for Mike because he will take care of you and you can tell that he works hard to maintain the positive atmosphere of the restaurant. read more

Came here for brunch. This place is highly rated compared to the restaurant across the street yet that other place was more crowded. If I had to guess this is more of a casual quick to-go vibe whereas the other places are down right brunch spots you can go to with a large group. When we arrived, there were 3 other parties already seated outdoors and no one seated inside. It took about 25 mins for us to get our 1 burger, 1 fry, and 1 drink. I thought that was a bit longer than it should have taken as it was not crowded. Maybe they only had 1 cook on this Sunday? The food itself was tasty. The chorizo patty had good spice and topped with juicy fries and an over-easy egg. The oily wilted fries paired well with the burger as it was easy to bite down but eating it separately in its own order got a bit greasy and I got that heavy oily feeling in my stomach afterwards. The lime batido was the star of the meal. A very well balanced tangy blended ice drink, not too sweet not too sour. Almost like a pina colada with tang. I wish the portion was bigger for the price. The ambience was better outdoors. Indoors everything was painted white in bench family style format and the AC was blasting on this not so hot day so it was more comfy to sit outside. There was also pop clubbing type music blaring from the speakers. It didn't fit with the style of the restaurant and the vibe so I didn't understand that. Not sure if I would come back here. The concept of the food is good. Overhyped on Yelp in my opinion. Just missed on the execution for me. read more

Wow! That's all I can say I've been to fritas many times now and the food has always been amazing. If you're in Ann Arbor, you have to stop at fritas. Everything on the menus is fantastic. I usually get a chroizo frita with black beans. Their batidos are amazing too. The restaurant is chic and really nice inside. I love how they have the water at each table. The service is usually really good too. No complaints from me! Overall... go to fritas! It's amazing read more

I'd heard about this casual restaurant from a friend, and I'd read the reviews, but I was still wowed at the fresh, tasty food and cocktails. They feature counter service with food delivered to your table, inside or outside. I had a chicken frita with tropical slaw and a yummy ginger cocktail. My friends also enjoyed their selections, and the outside seating on a street closed to cars made for a nice lunch. We were lucky not to have to stand in line for long when arriving shortly after they opened on a Sunday, but I'm told they get busy and have a line out the door. I can see why! You have to get the chorizo frita! It's spiced so well. I got mine with the cilantro lime salsa. I had no idea what to get on it but I wasn't disappointed. The salsa was larger diced tomatoes that tended to fall out. It wasn't a ton of salsa either and at a $1.50 charge, I'm not sure I would get again but it was good! The garlic fries were soggy but they hit the spot! The passion fruit batido was a delight! Smooth and creamy and the passion fruit wasn't overpowering. Our friend got the churros. Oh. My. God. They give you 3 HUGE churros that an adult can barely finish but they are sooo good! Home made with tons of citrus zest made them delicious! Tempted to take off a star for the bathroom alone. I know it was busy during the art fair. However, there is no mount for the toilet paper?! So it's just left on top of the trash can?! Very gross and a very easy fix. read more

Amazing burgers. Okay fries. Long ahh wait. But worth the wait. Just plan accordingly.

Frita Batido in Ann Arbor is the ubiquitously known Cuban inspired fast casual restaurant with stellar fritas, delicious sides, and umbrella-garnished batidos. We came after a Michigan game famished and ready to devour. We had the chicken frita and inspired cuban with chocolate batidos (milkshakes) with a side of finger-licking garlic fries. This makes for the perfect post game meal or pregame dinner spot where you can enjoy great unfussy food while playing dominos. Don't be like us and order the fish bowl for 3 people, as it's more suitable to be shared amongst 5-6 people. read more

Took the family for lunch after exploring U of M. Frito Batidos was recommended to us so we walked on down. We hit the place well after lunch but they had a fairly full house still. Seating is picnic table style so you might need to share. We ordered a variety of stuff and almost all of it was really good. We started with plantains and guacamole. These were actually gifted to us by the cashier. Great starter. I'm not even a big guacamole fan, but this had to be the best guacamole I ever had. The plantains had a little salt to them too. Very tasty. One of the kids had the Mexican style chocolate shake. It was a little heavy on cinnamon and she didn't care for it, but I drank most of it and found it good if not great. They brought the rest of the food in short order. There were two black bean fritas (basically burgers) with shoestring potatoes piled on top. The fritas came with a spicy mayo that gave just a little heat. Ketchup, mustard and hot sauce are on the tables, as are carafes of water which is nice. I had the seasonal conch fritters which were also quite yummy. They were a little smaller than I hoped. I took the 2 which wasn't quite enough. But the alternative was 5 which I think would have been too much. 3 or 4 might be a better mix. These came with sour cream, a special mayo and pica de gallo. I must say the pica de gallo was also top notch, best I ever had. The fritters were also really good, but a little lacking in the amount of conch. This wasn't unexpected, but it was still a tasty meal. I raided fries and drank the shake and filled up anyway. Finally, one of the kids had a grilled cheese which is an embarrassing order. Unfortunately it wasn't that great. More of Muenster cheese that wasn't even really melted. It also came with fries. The fries with each meal were decent, kind of the fries you might get at Five Guys. All in all there was some really good food here. We were impressed and satisfied. Amusingly, the place is right across from Cafe Zola which is another A2 favorite. read more

Solid place to grab a good burger & shake/boozy shake. Interesting flavor combinations on the menu and great service. Easy walk up ordering counter with a wall menu to peruse. Picnic tables & air conditioning inside and also picnic tables on the street outside (the street is currently closed). We had beef Fritas and enjoyed the sweet chili Mayo sauce. Hubby got a coconut cream shake (Batido) & I had the light one w/rum. Everything was good. This is very messy/drippy burger that one should just enjoy w/out worry so I probably wouldn't recommend this as a first date option but definitely take your foodie pals here and dig in! read more
