The Midleton Distillery Experience is home to seven iconic Irish whiskey brands: Jameson, Redbreast, Powers, Midleton Very Rare, The Spot Whiskeys, Method and Madness, and Knappogue Castle. The site itself is the original Old Midleton Distillery, and walking through it means moving through restored 19th-century warehouse buildings where whiskey has been aged in oak casks for generations. The history is embedded in the walls, and the experience is designed to make sure you actually feel it rather than just walk past it. We booked the private premium tasting tour, and the decision to go private changed the entire dynamic of the visit. Our tour guide -- French by birth, now based in Ireland having moved to learn English -- was exceptional. His enthusiasm for Irish whiskey was completely genuine, his knowledge was deep, and his ability to translate that knowledge into something both accessible and fascinating made the experience far better than any standard group tour could have. The kind of guide who makes you leave knowing things you did not expect to know when you arrived. The premium tasting takes you through four prestige whiskeys from the distillery's range, each contextualised properly rather than just poured and moved on from. The difference between what's available here and what you find on a standard shelf is immediately apparent. The highlight, and the moment that made the visit stick: I purchased a cask strength expression at 61% and bottled it myself directly from the cask. That is a singular experience -- standing in a working distillery, filling your own bottle from a numbered cask, corking it by hand. It is not a gimmick. It is exactly what it sounds like, and it earns every penny. If you are in the Cork area, include this in your itinerary without hesitation. The experience here is more thorough and personal than anything the Dublin distillery offers. Go private if you can, and stay long enough to bottle something. Killarney Murphy's (Irish pub)…read moreWe luckily walked in and got a table without any problems It was 1800 hours Being from Texas we had to get guacamole/chips -- which were surprisingly good but they were expensive 15euros I ordered the beef and Guinness plate and was surprisingly served an incredible dinner--freshly colored vegetables, tender pieces of beef along with lucscious brown gravy and a scoop of mashed potatoes plus some brown bread The dish was so tasty that I used the accompanying brown bread to soak up as much gravy as possible ---I highly recommend this restaurant

The pie of the day, not on the menu, was steak and kidney, which I had to try "for research purposes". The pastry crust extended to the sides and bottom so it fully enclosed the filling and was served "freestanding". Crust and gravy were excellent. In the filling, both the steak and the kidneys were plentiful. My research completed, I probably wouldn't order it again; just give me the steak - no more kidneys please! Nevertheless I did enjoy and finished it. This was served with decent fries and a truly excellent green salad: a variety of leafy greens, radishes, cucumbers, pickled onions, and pre-dressed with a vinaigrette. The wife had the Beef & Guinness Casserole, served with brown bread. Along with steak there were also plentiful veggies (root vegetables and celery) and mashed potatoes in the center. She liked it. I tried it and agreed. I would get that next time. I had a Jameson Old Fashioned to drink and it was the best Old Fashioned I've had in some time. The unusually large twisted orange peel probably contributed and it may have had more than the customary amount of bitters. The wife's tea was amusingly served with a knitted "cozy" keeping the teapot hot. For dessert we shared a Sticky Toffee Pudding, served with vanilla ice cream, attractively presented with a dusting of sugar, whipped cream, and a ground cherry complete with its leaves. I'd rate it second among the three I've tried so far. Would certainly order it again. As for the pub I can't say. It has a reputation for good traditional Irish music every night but unfortunately not until 9:30, way too late for us. Sadly we're just not pub people.

I believe they forgot to put in the order and blamed it on being "busy". They were not busy. People (mostly tourists like us) seated 20 minutes after us got food before we did. The seafood chowder had a piece of something chewy and funky in it that was not quite right, I had to spit it out. The Shepherds Pie had very little meat. It was mostly gravy, veg and potato. No dressing on the salad. Basically, everything was bland and lacked seasoning. The food was by far the most lackluster of the many delicious meals we ate while in lovely Ireland. Even the few meals we ate at tourist visitor centers outshone this place. The only good thing was the beer. We might as well have gone to a poorly executed Irish themed chain restaurant in the States. So disappointing as it was one of our last nights here. We chose poorly, please do not do the same. Skip it and find another pub.

It was colorful and lively and they served food at the bar ....... She had the salmon and I had the Hake. Both tasted as if they'd been caught that very same day. The service was very good and the owner even approached and asked if we'd be more comfortable at a table. If you are starting your journey along the ring of Kerry or ending it in Kenmare I'd definitely recommend Foleys
