All the barrels of whiskey
Erin L.

I really enjoyed this tour at Jameson. The guide was so great and it was fun learning about how the whiskey is made. You get to walk around the property, taste test and at the end receive a fabulous drink. I went with the Jameson with ginger ale and lime. I'm not normally a whiskey drinker, but it was delicious! It was a cool place to visit!

*Pro tip - Do not go to the actual distillery, you need to go to the Jameson Experience and make sure the directions take you through town and when you arrive it should be a old building with obvious signs you are at a touristy place. Our GPS took us to the actual Midleton Distillery where they brew their whiskey today. Our tour was at 16:45, we were already going to be a few minutes late, but when we arrived and saw a bunch of workers also leaving, we knew that something wasn't quite right as we approached the modern building. One worker noticed straight away that we were tourists and directed us to where the tours were actually at. He was very kind and helpful! When we finally arrived, we were more than 15 minutes late and shared our apologies. The hosts were so nice and said it happens all the time and we hadn't missed too much because the tour was about 90 minutes long anyway. We got a quick behind-the-scenes walk through the property and joined up with the group. Funny enough, after a few minutes, another group joined us (undoubtedly in the same predicament that we were in). The tour was REALLY good, we learned about the history of the building and the process specific for making Jameson, as well as their other whiskeys and spirits. The buildings we went into were either brand new or original. When we visited I'm August 2023, they were in the middle of a restoration and expanding their existing operations (see pictures). There was a lot of construction cones, signs, etc. but when we got there most of the workers had left for the day. We saw the distillery copper pots and their new testing/experimental facility that they use to train 2 apprentices a year. Towards the end of the tour, they took us to the barrel room and it was pretty cool to see how they store hundreds of barrels of whiskey. Our guide, Brian was excellent at engaging the group and keeping the excitement in his tone throughout his presentation. He told us that the whiskey evaporates at 2% a year, and since by Irish law, they have to let it age in a barrel for at least 3 years, they automatically lose 6% of whiskey to the "Angels" (the happiest Angels that there is). He was able to show us, using barrels with a clear front panel how much each barrel loses over time. He also had jokes about the cows and pigs being the happiest in Ireland because they get the leftover barley and hops. The tasting was also very good, as they provided a half-shot of American whiskey and Scotch whiskey as comparison to the Jameson Irish whiskey. He had us pause and consider the notes (smell and taste). Lastly, they dropped us off at the tasting room/bar and gift shop and we could have a Jameson drink (and pay for extra if we wanted). While we sipped, our bartender Joe was very nice and told us how Brian is the sansay of tour guides, has taught them all and is quite good at what he does. We also got to talking with another bartender, Conor and he gave us some recommendations for places in town that we could visit for dinner. Overall, we really liked this experience and even after a long day, it was one of our favorite tours we've ever done for beer/whiskey! For more recommendations and tips from our Ireland trip... A very enjoyable stop. And the most engaging and knowledgeable guide. We compared whiskeys, aka whisky's, at the end Jameson, Johnny Walker black and Jack Daniels 7. We liked the Jack best but all were different and delicious. Highly recommend. Mark & Nancy.

Fun excursion off a cruise shop. A one hour tour of the distillery begins in a lovely setting. Enter through the gift shop.

We did the Distiller tour. Very nice. Don't get why you have to wear the jacket and eye wear. That's a big over the top. I will also say i wish they would of had a tasting comparing all the different whiskeys. It was disjointed. I loved the final tasting in the barrel. Our guide was great. It's a must visit. But you need to change up the distiller tour. Let everyone taste mult whiskeys in a row so you can taste the difference.

To the tasting room!

Came here with my diehard Jameson-drinking fiancé for a tour after visiting the original location in in Dublin, had a great time! Great tour with a friendly and enthusiastic guide. I recommend arranging ahead of time to purchase a bottle here labeled with your name on it or one for another super fan, makes a great souvenir!

My group chose the Jameson Middleton Distillery Experience as our tour and we were glad we did! It was incredibly educational and we had tons of fun!

You can't come to Ireland and not do a tour of the Jameson distillery! So much thought goes into making these delicious bottles of goodness! We had purchased the regular tour. We definitely enjoyed the experience, but it did run a little long for our taste. The best part about it? The "free" liquor at the end of the tour! I also did want to mention that they do offer a taste testing between three different spirits: American, Scottish, and of course Irish. The store offers a plentiful array of different Jameson branded things, but the most important is the liquor! I purchased a bottle of the Crested and the IPA. I am from the United States, so when you do purchase alcohol, make sure it's something you can fit in your check-in luggage. They also do provide the paper version of the tax form there too.

I was so excited to visit the Old Midleton Distillery when I was planning my Ireland trip! Pulling up to the building the first thing you see is the giant copper still! Walking into the lobby she see all this Jameson memorabilia and history on the walls and in cabinets. The Jameson experience is 20 euros for an adult and includes a short film about the history,a tour throughout the distillery and a complimentary glass of Jameson...well worth it! The tour starts off with a film about the Jameson history...it was short and informative. Then our knowledgeable tour guide walked us through the Jameson triple distillery process by going into different buildings, warehouses and the Micro- Distillery. Lot's of great photo oppuritinitys. This tour has up to 35 people in it, not everyone gets to do the comparative tasting of three whiskeys, Jameson, Johnny Walker Black and Jack Daniel. They ask for volunteers ... i raised my hand with lot's of excitement and enthusiasm... and was selected right away! It was great comparing each whiskey... the Jameson is so much smoother then the other whiskeys. The tour ends in the onsite bar area to collect your complementary glass of Jameson... i went with Jameson and ginger, cool and refreshing! I also had an irish coffee here... so good! There is also a store here to get all sorts of Jameson items. I bottled my own black barrel cask strength Jameson... great experience! I got to put the whiskey in, cork it, fill out the labels and place them on the bottle! I also purchased a regular bottle with a limited edition label. I could of spent the entire day here!

On our trip around Ireland, we were able to experience two different Jameson tastings, one in Dublin and the other here in Midleton, County Cork There is nothing better than taste testing whiskey. Here too, they give you the three options of Jameson, Johnny Walker Black and Jack Daniel. All of which seems like a fair fight, until you actually get to the tastings. Most, including ourselves never finish the competition. I believe no one does, actually. Irish Whiskey is tripled distilled. The other major positive for us, was our introduction to Barman extraordinaire John. Wow, what a class act and wonderful guide to all things whiskey. As we were waiting for our tour to begin, we struck up a conversation on the correct way to make Irish Coffee. Heehe, I know what UR thinking. The key element is to start with a hot water heated glass, before you pour in the coffee and not to heat the cream directly. See photos This is Five Stars all the way and a must, if UR in County Cork.

Certainly put this on your Ireland trip itinerary you don't want to miss this landmark!! I'm happy I was able to visit and enjoy all they offered! I just so happened to visit the Jack Daniel's Distillery (Lynchburg, TN) in Aug 2017 and now 7 months later visited the Jameson Distillery (Midleton, Cork) in April 2018 so my review/opinion is pretty much a comparison -- hence the three stars. I found the Jack Daniels (JD) experience better - not just saying that because I'm American but because truly that tour and tasting was 10x better. At JD you have an option of choosing three different types of tours ranging from $15-25 - I did the Angel's Share ($25 for 90 min) which offers a tasting of their select whiskeys. At Jameson Midleton, Cork there is only one tour w/ one glass of traditional Jameson offered a the end. This is 20Euros for 75 min tour. The JD tour involves a tour of the work facility! You can see the pots the bubbling, the filtration, the smells, the sights, and everything!! It was so much cooler. Jameson has a lot of history and it's campus is very scenic and well kept as well but it's not alive like JD which I think made ALL the difference for me. The real working facility of Jameson was right there next door but tourist can't see that. The tour guide at Jameson was a bit robotic so it didn't stir up the same enthusiasm and furthermore since JD was the first whiskey distillery I visited it's already a little biased in my mind. However with all that being said, I think Jameson has to the scope to really improve and make their experience even more inviting and exciting! Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the visit and I would encourage everyone to visit their Midleton location - it's a lovely area!! (but I also encourage you to visited Jack Daniels too in TN if you can!!) lol

If you are in the Cork /Middleton area this is an absolute must! Being from KY I've done many bourbon tours this one is near the top! Beautiful facility, knowledgeable guide, great restaurant gift shop I just can't say enough good things! I recommend getting an Irish coffee to take in the tour with you

Midleton Whiskey

This was a must stop in Cork. We are big fans of Jameson whiskey and have bought their Midleton Whiskey which is limited production and quite expensive but well worth it so when we knew we were going to be in the area there was no question of taking a tour. The tour gave us a great idea of the distilling process and history of Jameson. We had a great tour guide and I had the chance to volunteer for a taste test. Of course Jameson won. At the end of the tour you can order either a shot of Jameson or a Jameson and Ginger Ale. Unfortunately our tour was running late so had only a short time to shop in the gift shop. We ran out of time to get the Whiskey tasting certificate at the end which I was disappointed. It is a great experience so if you love whiskey and you love Jameson it is worth the visit.
