The first floor is where they do the music and it's pretty small, so if you come for the music I would come early to snag a seat. The beer is also very good. Great joint.. super busy dive bar with live Trad after 6pm daily! Walking in, if you can... great circular bar surrounded by many tables.. this place is very popular so if you get a seat guard it with your life. Got a spot at the bar and they have a bunch of bartenders so service was very good then the music started... great traditional Irish music! Probably the highlight of my trip to Cork. Came in for one pint and a little live music, stayed for 5 hours. I met a bunch of friendly locals who insisted on buying me beer. This was a fun pub. They had live music in the evening and it amazes me how talented these musicians were. It's a cozy spot and has kitschy decor, which is everything we were looking for in a pub. It was close to our hotel too, which I really appreciated since it was cold and rainy that evening, so we needed a fun (dry) place to be. I went here on the recommendation of the bartender at the Mutton Lane Inn. She mentioned that they have live music and characters at this place. There's a spot where old men will sit and it's their corner and she said it definitely wasn't a tourist trap. So I came here and I asked for recommendations as I tend to like really sweet drinks. They allowed me to sample one of their ciders which was really good. It was light sweet and creamy. I think it was one of their drinks that you can only find in Cork. The live music was great. I loved hearing the traditional music. This is definitely a place you shouldn't miss! read more

A very popular pub that was very busy on a Wednesday evening, but had cracking live music! The musicians seem like local friends that take up residence in a corner, playing lively music for those who'd like to listen and dance, or ambiance for friends catching up. Great little pub - friendly staff, interesting clientele, and usually some pretty good music. There is not a lot of room to roam since it is quite small. There is an area upstairs to relax, but I got the impression you were not supposed to bring drinks up there (not sure, I stayed downstairs on all my visits). I was by myself on my first visit and had no problem striking up conversations with folks at the bar. I was unsure of this place when I walked in...it's very crowded and very hot. Still, we pushed our way to the back where the band was playing. That's when I have a change of heart about this pub. To be clear, by band I actually mean group of strangers that showed up at the bar with instruments. Apparently this is common practice in Ireland. The atmosphere in this pub is always amazing. The setting is very cosy with old chairs and tables upstairs, even two older barber's chairs can be found upstairs! Lighting is always quite dim with candles lit on every table. All candles are placed in old whiskey bottles which really gives an old time feel to the place. The feeling you get is like being comfy at home! They have great trad sessions and the staff are always friendly and efficient. Walls and ceilings are adorned with old posters, postcards, photos, dollar bills from all over the world and any other memorabilia you can think of! It's very well heated pub , sometimes can get hot upstairs beside the radiators but the windows are always open for a lovely breeze to cool you down. This is a wonderful place to go and experience a true Irish pub. We came to Cork as part of our vacation in Ireland and our AirBnB host, who seemed to know pretty much everything about this beautiful city, recommended that we spend some time here to hear some live music. We got there around 10PM and it was quite packed. It's a tight space and quite sticky, but honestly, that's the charm. The best time that I had here was finally grabbing a small table, crowding around the makeshift candle in the whisky bottle, and talking over candlelight and having a beer with your friends. The music was a bright side and lovely addition to the ambiance. It is not a concert in the traditional sense but more musicians who are jamming together because they like to play together. Note: there's no food. If you have to pick one place to have your Irish bar experience, definitely recommend this place! read more

I've noticed that most pubs in Ireland serve more or less the same beers and that they mostly distinguish themselves through their atmosphere. Sin E and several other Cork pubs make a point of carrying a range of beers from the two local breweries, Rising Sons and Franciscan Well, which are a nice change of pace from the ever present stout. Sin E is almost two different bars, with a quieter, almost living room-like upstairs and a perpetually crowded and intimate first floor bar. The whole thing is lit mostly by candles and string lights and they have live music almost every night. Sometimes its traditional Irish music and sometimes a bit more contemporary, but they always play sitting at a table in the corner, there's no stage to speak of. Sin E is one of the better options in north Cork. read more

Love the touch with the candles in the bottles. The local music was incredible, and I'd recommend this pub to anyone visiting Cork! Small and character-full pub with trad music (when I was there last 2 guitars a banjo a fiddle and an accordion). Prices normal decor good, seating limited downstairs but a bit more upstairs. Crowd generally friendly both locals and out of towners, though the occasional person who doesnt quite get it pushing through the crowd and/or standing in front of the players taking photos can dampen the mood. This place is awesome! So cute and cozy to get out of the rain with amazing music and staff! They have traditional Irish music 7 days a week and it's the perfect late night spot. Nice bar in the Shandon, they ask you to leave if your not drinking. I see people complaining and giving them bad reviews because of it but I actually agree with it. Running a pub is an expensive business in Ireland and people coming in to listen to music for free taking up seats and space of paying customers would put them out of business. At least they could buy a coke, I'm sure the owner would prefer this anyway. I enjoyed myself anyway and the beer was good. The Shandon is not in the city so if your coming here your walking up very hilly Cork or taxing, I like this area.
