Steak on Rock with fries and a mushroom/ onion/ sauce toppings plate
    Valerie W.

Food was good. I ordered a prime cut steak on rock which means I cooked my own steak at the table. I kind of wished I had just let them cook for me, but it was still delicious. The beer is good but they do not give large glasses to people who look younger. (I am 19 so it is legal for me to drink here. I ordered the same thing as my mom and yet they gave me a wine glass full of beer instead of the traditional pint...?) good atmosphere and staff was friendly.

Place is garbage. Don't waste your time ordering the calamari. You will get six pieces of chewy calamari

Flourless Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream

It's kind of dark here with a nice atmosphere. There is music and it's upbeat. The bar is really busy downstairs. Waiter, Robert, is really nice. He even changed our bottle of water so it was colder. Michelle readied our places for dinner course and I asked her about the English Market across the way. She said that to make sure she'd check and see if it was opened since it was Easter Monday. She did. My husband said he had the best Cesar Salad ever. My Katsu curry was wonderful. The Panko chicken was awesome and the curry was off to the side so you didn't have to have much if you didn't want to. It was superb. It came with a very small pinch of salad. My husband had a cheeseburger with spinach and left off the mushrooms and onions. It was great. My dessert was flourless brownie with vanilla ice cream. At first it seemed dry but with the ice cream it was delicious. The special was an entree with either appetizer or dessert for $20 and 3rd course for $25. I'm so glad we could 't get into the pub I had wanted to. Excellent food with really nice people. Be aware that you have to climb stairs to get to it.

When we went to Bar Soho it wasn't rocking yet because the last ten minutes of the footy was showing on the biggest screen in Munster. It was promptly rolled up and out when the game finished, and the DJ got into the act with a bit of house music. It was a nice place, and we all started with cocktails that were quite posh, but they do a lot more than just drinks. You can serve your own Guinness, and even have a nice breakfast, lunch and dinner there before it turns into a party place. There are also corporate and private rooms for hire, and live music on certain nights.

SOHO WHAT? SO GOOD Downtown Saturday about six. Started at Lapps Quay to see the tailend of the annual Ocean to City Rowing event. Quite a buzz, a few hundred people, bars and restaurants busy and food stalls doing a roaring trade. We had to leave the food as we were heading for the Soho Bar & Restaurant. Called into the Clarion to show my advisor the Atrium. While there, accidently met one of the management staff, a very pleasant fellow who gave us a little tour, that included the impressive Synergy Restaurant. It can seat up to 150 but which is well laid out with little semi-private areas where a couple would not feel overwhelmed by the crowd. So we said thanks very much for that and started out for SOHO. We went through Patrick Street and came across a ragged looking Eastern European band (not really sure where they were from but their literature was in Cyrillic script) playing what sounded like gypsy music. They were very active and an entertainment in themselves (they play The Roundy this Wed June 3rd) and then they were unexpectedly joined by a guy wearing his CK underpants and a ball and chain. He danced and they surrounded him as they played and we all had a laugh. The feel good experience continued in SOHO. Starters were pan seared scallops followed by Pan seared duck. Both were top class and so too was the wine, a Fleurie AC Beaujolais Cru, Gamay 2007 (by Mignot). Desserts didn't disappoint either and they were a Lemon Tart and a Sticky Toffee Pudding. There is quite a range of prices here so you can stick to a budget or go for broke. The atmosphere, the lay-out and especially the service - we had our best waitress in a long time, friendly and helpful - were all excellent.

In town for one night and Soho was recommended by our cabbie. We enjoyed it! Nice, fun, club-like atmosphere with a good looking menu! We had the monkfish as an app and then the meat sampler rock with Pinot noir. Very pleased! Would love to come back and try more.

The market is a bustling bee hive of produce farmers, butchers, chocolatiers, of local and organic fresh food to include spices and an abundance of gastro delights from afar. The all wood construction and arched ceiling of this 18th century building make it visually appealing to add to the sensory adventure of fresh and cooking food. Farmgate is a bit small as most European cafes are but was rich in its menu offerings! I made reservations via Open Table for lunch for myself and was greeted at the stairs as seating goes all around an atrium open air looking down on the market below. My server carefully considered my food intolerance to gluten and dairy and made sure I was ok with butter, the service was top notch, not rushed and not invasive as I sat and slowly sipped in the scenery and scents. I ordered a chicken with lentils, parsnips, and carrots and the chicken was herbed nicely, moist and succulent served over tasty lentils that were not bitter but light and full of flavor, buttery parsnips and carrots not overcooked. I had some extra vegetables as a replacement for the mashed potatoes as they have cream in them and the veggies were crisp and fresh. The menu options are extensive for the size of the kitchen and obviously benefit from having fresh seafood, butchers and produce downstairs such that they had some of everything on the menu! You can tell the cook/chef takes pride in his preparation and the presentation was artistic as well. The thick wooden tables and height ceilings gave this place a feeling of long standing history and the staff appeared pleased to work there in this historic setting, making good fresh local food to share. I highly recommend this cafe as a must do for Cork! The prices were very reasonable, the service and food came without an arduous wait, a memorable experience in a town of high food standards!

During our entire stay, as my friends had joined about 10 minutes after I was seated and had already ordered drinks, the employee just kept throwing glances and staring at us the entire time. We were all ordering, so it wasn't like we were holding a table hostage. We did get good service from the waiter, although he didn't come around as often, even when we were out of drinks. Kudos to the whisky sommelier for giving us great suggestions. It's a quirky bar/restaurant, but I'm not sure it would be worth a return trip. The employee with the attitude was really unnerving.

The waitress was awesome she split the bill for our entire group!
