RUN away! Bob and his wife should not be in the hospitality business!! I have never written a bad review before but I've sat on how to type this one for 4 days! Bob and his wife showed no remorse for the bug infestation and cleanliness issues we had at Away at the River. This was supposed to be a "newly renovated, modern home" and 4 different people told us we were the first to stay at the house since the renovation. It was VERY obvious this was true! The house was never properly cleaned and we arrived to messy floors, bugs, no wifi, and noisy AC units. Don't get me started on the check-in/check-out process that says you will receive 5-star service and a PHYSICAL KEY. I drove 34 miles out of the way to GET A DIGITAL KEY CODE that should have been sent to me in an email. The expectation was I drive back to the office to check-out!! That's almost 70 extra miles, absolutely insane!!! Bob was not prepared for me to check-in, had the office locked, provided ridiculous verbal directions to the house, and said "if you don't have AT&T you're screwed". On our first night (at midnight), we discovered the window AC unit in the upstairs bedroom was improperly installed resulting in the ceiling and walls being covered with hundreds of gnats! Please zoom in on the ceiling photos because gnats are tiny bugs and really hard to capture on 10 foot ceilings. I called early the next morning to report my concerns and was met with no remorse and was forced to solve my own issues. I was given an ultimatum "to leave with a full refund or stay, get a service call, and talk about a refund with the owners". Who drives 2 hours, makes plans in that town for the holiday weekend, to just be told to leave? This house barely met our basic needs - a shower and roof over our heads. Not all the showers drained correctly but this was fixed during our stay. The WiFi had to be completely rewired at 9am Saturday morning because it wasn't properly checked prior to our arrival. The wire was chewed by a rat but we were accused of messing it up because "it worked up until now" - per Bob's wife. At check out, Bob belittled me while all 8 of us listened to him go OFF on speaker phone. Never again! read more

We stayed in river recess and it has not been updated in probably over 30 years. Way to over priced for what you get. You don't get cell service if you do not have AT&T. We got to the house and it was not cleaned, the fridge was dirty, the blankets on the beds were ripped with stains all over them, there was no WIFI. The papers said to call with any cleaning problems after going in, not sure how they expect people to do that with no service or wifi at all to call unless you have AT&T. The trash was left from the prior people so could smell as soon as you walked up. The pans were old and rusty, the stove top hardly worked, the oven did not even have the temperature shown on the knobs because of it rubbing off over the years. Beds and couch look and feel like they have been the same since the place was built. read more

HORRIBLE! I was trying to rent a house from them like I did the previous year. I was trying to put a deposit on the house and could not get ahold of them or a email back. As soon as I finally get a call back before I could even say hello a man was yelling at me and being super disrespectful because I was trying to get ahold of them and in his mind I was a "trashy Irresponsible college kid and he was never going to rent one of his houses to me" just so everyone knows I'm not a college kid. I run my whole company and a financial manager of another company! So I will never be renting a house from frio fun ever again! I recommend renting from Airbnb, they are quick, easy, responsive, and RESPECTFUL!! read more

We rented Casa Floerke from this company. It was recommended by a friend of the Floerke's from our hometown. Everything was great until we started dealing with the management. I called to let them know we might be a bit early but could do whatever they needed us to do...I reminded them of our linen request that we paid for. You would have thought I had asked for the world. I felt like I had inconvenienced them. Upon arrival no one was at the office. We waited for over 30 minutes in the heat. Finally got there. The house itself is really nice. So "Thank you to the Floerke's"....We found there were several broken closet doors and an issue with a frig. I called management (which I am happy to provide a name upon request if the owners of the house would like to contact me) and they said that it was not a big deal...things were broken but unless we tore up doors and set them on fire it was not going to affect my huge deposit. Of course, after we left (the place was left immaculate) I saw that my deposit was not at full amount. According to management, a lamp in the master bedroom was broken. I WAS IN THE MASTER BEDROOM...I never even turned on the lamp. I used the ceiling fan/light the whole time. I received a photo of a broken lamp that was on a table I didn't even recognize in that bedroom. According to management, they could not send me a photo of the whole room because THEY were out of town for the day and new people would be in the house for 10 days...how convenient. My takeaway from this whole experience is not about the house...it's about the management. They are horrible and seem to be willing to lose business over $35. One compliment never seems to go very far....however, a bad experience will have the run of the State of Texas. I am extremely connected in the travel world and also have a ton of connections with several large organizations that are always looking for a good place for large groups. Frio Fun is the Best place to stay: their houses have everything that you need and they are not that far from the river. I would highly recommend you to reserve ahead of time: their staff fixing things that need to be fixing and the houses look really great: they are ready by the time you get there; they also shuttle to the river: you pay for the day and they shuttle you all day: I really like frio fun; i recommend anyone and everyone to stay with frio fun read more
