I went to Fringe because of the good reviews I had seen on yelp, and because I had seen my friend get a good hair-cut and color there. I had been warned by my friend that the girls that work there were great (kathleen does great color and is a sweetheart and Adriana does a great cut), but that the owner, John, even though does great cuts, was rude to even his staff many times. I thought I'd still give it a shot, since I was going to have a lot done to my hair. (color, cut and keratine treatment).
I was very specific about how I wanted to hair colored, and how much of my hair was receiving. John did not follow my instructions and colored a lot more then what I wanted, which broke my hair instantly, as you can't reverse it. He tried fixing it by washing it repeatedly with a product that would "soften the color". It didn't work.
We proceeded with the keratine treatment, which looked great since I just left there, because they blow dry it and flat iron it. When I washed it a couple of days later, the treatment hadn't taken. I went back to Fringe and John offered to do it again in the part of my hair that has the curliest. After being there for the initial ten hours of the first day, I sat again for another three hours for this second time.
I went home and the treatment didn't take again. Now, I have had this treatment done six other times at different salons, with great results. I decided to go with Fringe because they had a better reputation and because they promised that it would least for six months, opposed to 3 to 4 months from other salons. The price was triple, but I thought the six month duration was worth it.
I went back there to say that it hadn't worked again. John was very rude, told me that I was there just because it was raining and nobody has straighter hair when it's overcast. He offered to do more treatments but at that point I said I didn't want anything else on my hair. He offered a refund, which I said sounded good. He turned his back at me as he told me to come back during the week because he was busy.
I went back, actually waited for a dry day so he could see my hair was fully back to being curly. He wasn't there, wouldn't talk to me on the phone and told me I would have to come back yet another time. The girls said they would call me back by the end of the day to resolve it and get me my refund. They never did. I did get a call back saying that John wouldn't refund me unless I went back there for him to wash my hair and dry it there to make sure my hair was curly. I felt extremely insulted, as he called me a lier.
I went back there one more time to get my money. He wasn't there so I told the girl that was there that I wasn't coming back a fourth time and that I wanted my refund that day, as they had promised. He kindly refunded my money.
I got a call the following day saying I wasn't welcomed back to the salon. Apparently he doesn't like when he doesn't get his way.
Bottom line is: he didn't listen to what I wanted for my color and colored way more of my hair then I wanted, he insulted me by insinuating I was lying about my hair being curly, and insulted me by saying he had to be the one to wash it and dry it to confirm it, he was very rude when I wanted my money back, which was very different then the sweet treatment I got when I was spending $640 there a couple of weeks before, including more then generous tips.
Aside from my personal experience, I have witnessed him being rude to his own staff in many occasions.
I have never been treated that badly at any place in my entire life. I went there because I wanted to feel beautiful and have a nice change. I spent a LOT of money there, and received not only the cold shoulder, but less then courteous treatment from him once I said I wasn't happy with the results.
I would not recommend this place to anybody. It was the worst experience I have ever dad. read more
