It's a very attractive salon. Alot of supplies and decorated nicely . I don't think they are talented though, at least Jen who took whenever was left of my hair and ruined it. I always left with roots because she can't get close enough to the scalp too. She has no idea what she's doing and if you want further proof look under reviews that are "not recommended" in the bottom of this page. The owner is no help in these situations, and will try and place the blame on the customer. They also push their supplies endlessly...if you even glance at a bottle on a shelf the hairdresser is all over you bc they make money if they sell things for the salon ...and the products themselves... They are honestly just OK. I actually found an amazing salon in the same town and although they had to fix what she did, they honestly did it so fast and so confidently I found a home there. They immediately knew what was done wrong and what could safely be done to rectify it. I walked out so happy! And when I got home a week after I was still so happy. Just left my first visit with a cut and dry from Lexie. She is fantastic! I was open to her suggestions and asked for her advice about what she would do. I have a long straight hair which was pretty much a blank canvas. She cut it in beautiful angles that frame my face in the most flattering way. She was fun to talk to, and the atmosphere at the salon is really nice. She really worked wonders on my hair and I feel fabulous! Will definitely be back here. Not for highlights. Tried Bliss on the high recommendation of a family member (and the salon itself it beautiful) but unfortunately not the same quality of highlights I'm accustomed to. The stylist spent a long time with me and was very sweet but for 300 for a partial foil (pretip and without a blowdry due to covid) for just over shoulder length hair the results were dissapointing. The people here get five stars. They were very welcoming and my stylist Lexie was very sweet and approachable. Unfortunately, the haircut that I got here was somewhere between 1 and 2 stars. I have wavy/curly hair, and have been struggling to find a place where I can get an affordable haircut that also looks good on me. I decided to try Bliss because a lot of friends had recommended it to me. I came out happy with my haircut at first because it was blown out straight and looked very nice. (If you have straight hair or style your hair, the haircut Lexie gave me would work great). After I washed it for the first time, I was very disappointed. I tried to convince myself that I loved it, but that didn't work. It looked extremely blunt and there was not a single layer in sight (what I had asked for). My head looked like the end of a broom. I could only stand this haircut for about two weeks before I reluctantly called Aveda to fix it. I ended up spending $60 on the first haircut and $85 for the second one for a grand total of $145 within three weeks. I don't think I will be going back to Bliss for a haircut in the future. read more

I started going to Bliss in highschool, when they first opened. After moving alot, I jumped from salon to salon, found a woman I really liked and then she up and left! I called Bliss and got in the same day with Gil. Rather than listen to what I wanted and just randomly go with it, he actually listened to me, added his own ideas in and gave me a whole new look. He is awsome, so funny, so talented and so easy to talk to. I have never been so happy. Plus he actually listened when I told him that I don't spend alot of time and energy on styling my hair. LOVE Bliss!! I have been going to Anna for the last 2 years at Bliss. It's a great Newbury feeling shop on the No. Shore. Excellent services and products. They carry Bumble and Bumble and Goldwell. They also sell hats, accessories, and candles. My only negative is that the shampoo could be a bit more relaxing. The shampoos at Bliss are only to clean the hair... I wish it was a bit more pampering with a nice scalp massage. The prices are similar to Newbury so it would be nice to add that one element. Bliss is amazing!!! I have been going there since they opened... I first started getting haircuts with Heidi who later moved on to another salon, and then started with Konrad.... he is an outstanding stylist and has a great personality!!! After leaving Marblehead I started trying salons on Newbury Street but nothing compares to Bliss!! Now I have recently come back to Bliss and am getting foils and haircuts with Erin who is also an outstanding stylist. Jess gave me an incredible haircut. She was able to salvage what was left of my hair after a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad haircut I had done on Newbury St. Prior to seeing Jess, when I would blowdry my hair it'd be huge and unmanageable because I have so much of it. She was able to thin out my hair and leave the length since the previous hairdresser had hacked most of it off. I'm now able to wash and go which I've never had the luxury of doing before. Before this great cut it was a constant pain and I hated how it looked regardless of what I did. She was able to turn the worst haircut of my life into the best one which is MONUMENTAL. I have been going here for my (very basic) cut and blow dry ever since they did my hair - and my bridal parties hair - back in 2006 for my wedding. I honestly only get my hair cut once, maybe twice a year (I am hair lazy!) But Jen always remembers me. They never rush you, and really listen. The water, tea, etc is nice, but nothing special. Can sometimes feel a little too 'Marblehead' but that is was it is. I have been to this salon on and off for two years. They fancy themselves a sophisticated polished salon. They are anything but. For folks who don't know high end salon skills and polish and are happy with a wannabe suburban experience this is your salon. But for those of us who have been spoiled by sassoon/ or any high end trained cutters and a really polished atmosphere this is a cheap imitation. The hall mark of a great salon or stylist is consistency. Each time I went to this place it was a hit or a grand miss. The owners, one overly solicitous and one very aloof and chilly, make it even more uncomfortable. My teen daughter had to switch stylists as she was being hucked to buy product each and every minute she was being serviced.......she is 15......not a good approach. At the end of the day my daughter also stated that when dropped off for a cut she was treated poorly........no coat taken, no water offered...different from when Mom was there. Given that I was paying the same for her cut as my own that was annoying. If you do not know any better you will think this high end. If you have had the privilege of a great cut and color, great service, and a polished environment this will fall way short. read more

I read raving reviews all over Facebook, Instagram, and google, but had an awful experience. I haven't colored my hair in five years due to a bad experience at another place so I was really nervous to get color done this time. I specifically asked Elizabeth to not put any color near my roots, and told her to stay away from any type of golden or caramel blonde--which is exactly what I got. She didn't listen at all to what I wanted and gave me the very thing I said I didn't want. I have always loved going to Tyla who is an extraordinary colorist and stylist. However after my last visit, I questioned a charge at the front desk and later wrote an email to express my dissatisfaction. I never received a reply(6 wks) until 2 days before my next appt when the owner decided to cancel my appt! Instead of asking what he could do to insure a customer's satisfaction, he stated that the salon "had reserved the right not to provide services to anyone unhappy with their services"! LIKE WHAT? I had gone to Bliss several years ago and was unhappy with my color and therefore complained. When complaining I got a call back from the owner who was very rude to me. I since have been going to another salon and I am very very happy although my hairdresser is on vacation so need a quick root touch up while she is away. I asked one of my friends who did her hair. My friend goes to a new stylist at Bliss so I figure well it is a different stylist and many years later so I will give it a go. When I called to make my appointment they refused to let me make an appointment telling me oh she is not available in June, or even as far out as September. It seems they have a (what they refer to internally to) their "BlackList" which the owner when called me back admitted to having. He even called it that in the voicemail message he left me. I just wanted to warn fellow patrons of this salon that this is the type of person that owns this business and don't complain or you will be put on their "Black List" What a great way to run a business... and I had almost forgot why I stop going there. read more

I've gone to Bliss three times now for cuts. Jen does a great job and cuts my hair exactly the way I ask her. The last time, Kim helped her out and used a straight-razor on my bangs (fun!). The price is very reasonable for the quality of the cut, only $40 for an experience similar to a Newbury St. salon. The only downsides for me are that they don't let you tip on your credit card, and I occasionally feel like they push the Oribe products a little too hard. read more

Walking up to Bliss, I was immediately impressed! Talk about great atmosphere! Someone meticulously thought out the entire layout and design of the salon and it shows. I loved how the color section of the salon had a large table where many clients could get their hair colored, it was really fun being able to check out each stylist working on hair! I had Christina color my hair and she was absolutely wonderful! She walked me through every step and made sure I understood exactly what she was doing to my hair. She even offered up suggestions (which lord knows I needed) that turned out beautifully! Next I had Tyler cut my hair and again everything turned out so beautifully! She really knew how work with difficult hair like mine. Both of these women were great! I highly recommend Bliss Salon. Came into the salon today with a color-mess (from another salon over the weekend) and Jenn listened to my requests, asked many questions and then got it 100 percent perfect. I am officially in love with Gil and Bliss Salon. I had my hair cut and colored by Gil today and he gave me the best look I have had in years. I have been to NYC, Newbury Street, etc. and not only did he listen to what I wanted he actually DELIVERED. I know some people think making a big deal over your hair is silly but when you have natural wavy/curly hair that looks like you just walked out of a Bon Jovi video when it is left to it's natural state you can appreciate a great cut. And for someone who has been highlighting for over 15 years I can tell you that he gave me the most natural "sandy brown" hair you could have asked for from any stylist. I sat with Gil for a good 10 minutes and we talked about the texture of my hair, the current cut, the color, my likes and dislikes, etc. He then discussed with me his thoughts on how to achieve what I wanted, thoroughly LOOKED and TOUCHED my hair, and finally showed me a price quote before starting anything. For those of you who have been doing the salon thing for years you will understand how much that was appreciated. Bottom line: I think I have found my new long term stylist and even though it is pricey and out of my way I will absolutely go back to Gil time and time again!!! read more

I love this place! The staff is very friendly, the decor is funky and fun, and the stylists are great about talking you through what they're doing and how it will affect your hair. The prices are reasonable - and they throw in a hair mask with every treatment (my hair was so much softer after!). My hair had been through a lot in the past year (and this was from Newbury street salons) - bad dye jobs, overprocessing and color correction - which left it a mess. Best. Haircut. Ever. Hands down. I am a hair snob. Honestly, I have been everywhere. The thing is, I have very straight hair, its pretty fine, most hairdressers don't listen to me and just cut it straight across the bottom. I prefer a little movement. I've never seen such a turn around in staff as I have at Bliss.....makes me wonder why ! ! ! I don't go that often but when I do, there are hardly any familiar faces from the last time........the other hair salon that I use, has a staff that has been there forever. That is a good feeling because if you ask for Susie you can count on booking with her. I like that aspect because there is consistency and no questions as to how my hair will come out. I've had haircuts, when I'm in a hurry, at walk in salons that were much better than Bliss. I've been going to Bliss and seeing Gil for about 9 years now. I agree with the many others that the atmosphere is very nice, they always take your coat, offer you water/coffee/tea and everyone that works there is very friendly. I do also like how the coloring is done in a completely different area so if you don't enjoy that smell, you don't have to deal with it during a hair cut! But Gil is why I keep going back year after year (I strayed once because I was desperate - and I'll never go anywhere else again). Gil is amazing, I rarely have a plan when I go in because it's part of the experience that I like, working with Gil on what is trendy, what actually works for my hair type and face shape, what season is it, what kind of mood am i in! He understands my low maintenance lifestyle so even if I go with something more trendy, he shows me different and easy ways of styling it. He also takes his time, I never feel rushed, and he shows a real interest his in clients so the hour-ish I'm there is like catching up with a friend. He definitely books up, so best to plan at least a month in advance, but it's very worth it! read more

I used to live in New York and had been getting my hair cut at Vidal Sassoon (uptown and downtown) for 15 years. Since retiring and moving to Marblehead, I am no longer in a position to travel to Boston's Vidal Sassoon to get my hair cut, so I've been going to several places here in Marblehead for the past two years. The person who was doing my hair at another salon left and I had to find someone new. Well, I checked the reviews on Yelp as I have been a contributor for years now. Jen's name popped up several times and I made an appointment with her. Well, no need to whine over not being about to get a Vidal Sassoon haircut anymore because Jen did such an amazing job that it was one of the best hair cuts I have ever had and that's saying a lot since I thought my old stylist at VS in Greenwich Village was the best. I have been going to Bliss Hair Salon since last June. Lexie has always done my hair. I can honestly say, out of the many hair salons very expensive or not that I have gone to, She is the only one that has been able to get my cut and color exactly how I wanted it. I don't even have to blow dry my hair. When it's dry if I shake it out I can see all the angles and layers and it looks like I blow dryer it. The color is amazing. Its done right from the roots so the color lasts. When I put my hair back I have tons of light foils just the way that I wanted them. She is always fun to talk to and happy to see you! The salon is beautiful! Spacious not loud and crowded. While you wait for foils to set in there is coffee or lemon or cucumber water always being offered. It is very clean and up to date inside the Salon and when I leave I always feel like I had a nice escape! I am very picky with my hair and would not go anywhere else after having Lexie do my hair. read more
