Really love this salon and the stylists! Going on several recommendations, I called the Hair and Color Studio on Main St in downtown Gloucester. Making an appointment was quite easy after I'd described what I was looking for. When I arrived for my appointment, I was offered my choice of assorted coffees, teas & freshly baked goods. My jacket was hung & I was given a tour. The salon is quite lovely. Each time I've been there, the staff has always been friendly, thoughtful, patient, & helpful. They're a real team of skilled pros. After I've spoken w/Kelly or Elizabeth at length, they asked questions & made recommendations based on the shape of my head, texture of my hair, preferences, & other factors. They really took their time working w/me & /(the other clients, I noticed, many of whom I know). Then they brought me back to the soothingly dimly lit shampoo room. They played soft music & explained the products they were using before they began shampooing, thoughtfully checking my comfort level w/the water temp, etc. The bonus is that they give you a Wonderful head & neck massage while they're shampooing & conditioning! Next come the warm towels on the neck--ahhh! How luxurious! They cut & styled my hair, making light conversation w/me and the others in the salon. They gave me tips & guided me through every step of the way. I loved my hair & have gotten many compliments & inquiries. And, to boot, the prices were so reasonable. The stylist explained to me that their notes go directly into the computer, "so we can keep track of what we did step-by-step & the results. Then next time, we can either duplicate that or make adjustments." And, they all work together as a team, so if my regular stylist isn't available & I'm in a pinch, one of the others can pick up from there. They also help each other throughout the day. It's "A Paul Mitchell Focus Salon" & the owner, Catherine is also a National Educator for Paul Mitchell. All the stylists have ongoing education which translates into the latest techniques & styles! It's been quite a pleasant, satisfying experience each & every time, & they have a wide range of services that I'll be trying. I am so happy w/that I wish I'd come here sooner!! This salon is fantastic. I walked in there a few days before Christmas and was very happy to book an appointment with Kiley later that afternoon. I had heard a lot of wonderful things about this salon, and Kiley specifically, so I was SO happy to be able to book an appointment with her. She really listened to me when I described to her what I was looking for in a hair style and we agreed on a layered, angled bob. She did an amazing job. I LOVE it. The salon is beautiful. Kiley gave me a little tour of the place before I sat down to get my cut and I loved the design. It was very warm and comforting to be there. The staff all seem really happy to be working there and working with each other. It really instilled confidence in me as a client knowing that the stylists are happy to be working there. After Christmas I went back for color and again, Kiley did a fantastic job. I was so happy with the results. It was exactly what I wanted. I think that if you're looking for a new salon, I definitely recommend The Hair and Color Studio. They're a very busy salon, so definitely call for an appointment first. But I promise you that you'll be very happy with your hair when you leave. read more

Don´t try to book with them using Yelp. Not sure if it is the Salons´ fault, Yelp or both but when you are able to select an exact time for your appointment and you get a confirmation e-mail saying "Congratulations! Your appointment with Hair and Color Studio is confirmed", they should honor your appointment. I just wasted half of a very busy morning driving there. read more

This is the best hair salon I've ever been to. It was opened last year by Gloucester local Catherine Cucuru. Originally, my mom and I were her clients at the place she used to work, Ambiance. When she opened her own salon, we followed her there. Catherine is an extremely talented hairstylist and she charges very reasonable amounts. She is much better than any stylist I've had for the same price else where. She also does my brother's hair and he is a rock musician and very picky about his hair. The salon is very comfortable and stylish and always stocked with home baked treats made by Catherine's mom. I definitely recommend this salon to anyone on Cape Ann. read more

I booked an appointment here on the advice of a friend who ALWAYS has fantastic hair. Best hair decision I've ever made. I went in requesting a cut similar to my friend's, but Catherine walked me through a style that would be much more flattering given my hair type and fall and the shape of my face. The shampoo was phenomenal. You're in a quiet, dim room with soft music and they give you a scalp massage. I felt so relaxed. Then, Catherine spent time familiarizing herself with my hair and got to cutting. As she styled, she explained how I should maintain upkeep and made a few suggestions I've never thought about. After going to the same hair stylist for 20+ years, my daughter convinced me to try this studio, which she was using. What a difference! Catherine did a great job evaluating my hair, suggesting a different style and color, and it's been great. Elizabeth took over and does a fabulous job every time. They keep up with the latest styling and coloring methods, their shampoo room is a study in relaxation, their salon is always spotless. Love them! The only reason I gave 4 stars rather than 5 is because they are sometimes hard to get an appointment with because they are so busy!!! Not a bad problem to have. read more

Great little salon. I'm only writing about the waxing services, as I've only had my brows done there twice, but never had my hair cut, but the service was great. The salon itself is super cute, seems very clean and cozy, and is has been busy (but never rushed) the few times I went there. A different stylist did my brows each time, but both did a great job. It's $14 for a brow wax, which is super reasonable, and the location is very convenient. Yay Hair Color Studio! read more

I had an appt on 2/13/14 with Kylie. Of course, being here in New England, it was snowing/raining/icing - you name it! LOL! I had long hair that really needed a cut and years ago I had had a cut that really worked with my face shape, brought in pics and Kylie just hit it right on! I almost cried when she was done - I was so happy and thrilled and had lost about 7lbs of hair too! YAY! I'm one of those really loyal peeps for personal things (hair, skin, etc) and I will definitely be returning! Everyone was super nice and friendly and although we were 2 chatty girls, (I hate sitting still for long especially for hair) the time flew by! I have only let one person touch my eyebrows and inbtwn visits use the 'ole tweezers - I would actually let it get done there so my regular eyebrow guru will be pleased! I was looking to get my hair done after work and decided to try this spot out, as oppose to my regular hair dresser. I could not find that I had any sort of reviews other than 5 starts so in i went? I called to schedule an appointment and began to tell the receptionist about my type of hair. What I liked about this place was that I never felt pressured to have a trial session, which was nice as because its was after work. when i started the hairdresser made blowing more of a process than it had to be and frizzy was my hair once i entered the street. As for the hair i was looking for a reddish-pink shade and got more of the classic orange ,While I dont believe this salon that bad of salon its just not as good as the others rate it. For now I'll leave it at 2 stars because I have high hopes! and because once i hit the street some guy was leaning on my car and was dented when he got up! that's what you get when you go to a salon next to a bar. read more
