I'm warmly welcomed, and my regular tech is precise, friendly and very professional. She knows that sitting still is not easy for me (I'm eager to get onto the next thing), but she never compromises her work. The business has a vibrant environment, and is clean. I went to the Salem nail bar for my birthday, very excited. I treated myself to a pedicure, during the pedicure I did say that hurts , however he kept getting asking me to up grade my pedicure, when I showed him the blood and missing skin he said oh your skin is thin.Not true. Manager took 16$ off... I should not have been charged . I will not be back it's now allowing me to add the photo I have two opens areas, one is still bleeding and I have been done for 45 minutes. I went with no injuries and left with two- and they said hey we took 16$ offf. I said I want this documented - he said we don't do that. read more

STAY AWAY. I get dip powder on my nails and the technician did not build up the apex of my nails enough. I got them done roughly two weeks ago and 5 of my 10 natural nails are now broken past the quick. Incredibly painful and completely unacceptable. I would have understood one nail breaking, but half of them breaking at the apex tells me this tech was not properly trained, and makes me worry there may be techs at this salon who are not certified. read more

if I could give 0 stars I would. i went in for a pedicure, and was only in the chair 19 minutes. The technician didn't clean my feet, there was still dead skin and dirt when I got out of the chair. I have been coming to this salon for over 3 years and always saw Vy, who is absolutely wonderful. I've always had a great experience with her, which is why I trusted this place for my wedding nails. Unfortunately, Vy wasn't working that day, and I went with whoever was available. That was a huge mistake, and after this experience I will never return. I got a gel pedicure so my nails would last through my wedding and honeymoon. Instead, my nails were cut unevenly and the gel began chipping within 2 days of my honeymoon. I also did Gel-X with a French manicure, and the application was a disaster. I had to repeatedly ask the tech to fix uneven tips (while being polite and patient), and after everything was finished, I noticed glue all over my nail beds, behind my nails, and sloppy polish that didn't even go down to the cuticle, making them look like they were already a week grown out. For wedding nails, this was incredibly disappointing. When I politely said I wasn't happy and asked if they could fix it, the tech told me they couldn't because they were already dry. At that point, another woman (the only blonde that works there) jumped in and began yelling at me in front of the entire salon. She accused me of "complaining the whole time" (which is untrue, I was kindly asking for corrections) and then contradicted herself by saying I should have spoken up sooner. She was extremely rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. Eventually, she "fixed" my nails, but they still looked terrible. To make matters worse, she then tried to charge me for the fix, charging me for their own mistakes! I've never been treated with such disrespect in my life. This salon used to be my go-to, but it has clearly gone downhill. The way I was treated on such an important occasion was beyond unacceptable. They are money-hungry, rude, and do not care about their customers. The second you express dissatisfaction, you'll understand why there are so many other negative reviews. I moved to Salem this month and needed a new nail place. So many mixed reviews on Yelp. I attempted to call another place, but no one answered the phone, and this was my second choice. It is closer to home, so that moved it up the list too. Unique setup; it is actually a "bar" where they line you up next to your neighbor to get your nails done. This style probably faced immense challenges during COVID, and I didn't like it at first. But I got to chat with a few clients while work was done. The furniture is old and needs a bit of TLC, but I saw workers sanitizing and cleaning as they went. Also, they have an impressive color selection for dips, so much more than I have ever seen. I have a dip with short nails with square shapes. Nothing fancy for me. I arrived early and was seated right away. The staff were fast and did things a Lil differently than what I was used to, but it was overall ok. I may try the ombre or marble effect on nails in the future. A few things I will remember to specify when I return is to ask for softer edges for the square style and not as many dips. Three is my limit; I think she did four, if not more. I can feel the weight on my nails right now and don't love it. The tip is cash only, and they do have an ATM. All the staff was pleasant to chat with as well. read more

Sophie is wonderful however upon checkout I was overcharged. I booked a full set gel and a classic pedicure and when I left, I was charged $103 for a gel X manicure. I have no idea the difference between a gel set and a gel X (I don't get my nails done often) -- the girl who checked me in misled me and gave me an additional upgrade I never asked for or booked. I could not make it at 2:00... my friend and I had decided to stop in just to see if maybe a tech that knew us would be available considering they do take walk ins, we walked in and the technician Tiffany rolled her eyes at us and said "do you have an appointment " I tried to explain to her what happened and she just cut me off and said if you don't have an appointment then you can go.. we ended up going else where, once i started seeking out other salons then realized how bad Salem nail bar has been robbing me !!! A beautiful design set with gems and all that lasts costs me 115-140 at most at my new salon vs Salem nail bar would charge me 200-250 for the same thing I get now !!! I just moved to Salem and this place is 2 minutes from me. I booked an appointment for an acrylic gel fill. When i got there they had be go to Vincent as my nail tech. I told him one nail felt loose and it was lifting he didnt do anything about it and a day later it broke off. They dont clean under the nails either. It was extremely rushed and kept getting pressured to get chrome or designs on nails. I also got charged for the shape but i never changed the shape i came in with almond nails and asks to keep it the same shape all he had to do was file.... Then to go back and get it fixed two days later. The nail they fixed took two seconds because she rushed through it and left it extremely thick. They are way too rushed there. I had been going to NB for a few years or so for dip powder. I switched to a new girl and was using her for about 8-9 months or so. I should have realized it sooner, but it dawned on my that the reason why it only took her less than 35 mins to complete my dip powder (including the wrapping) is because she only wrapped my nails for 10 mins and the dremeled the crap out of my nails to get the dip powder off, so much so that my last visit she just about went through my real nails. My nails are so thin, ridged and ruined that I have had to soak them off and go to another salon to have a manicure and start regrowing my nails. NB is so interested in getting you in and out, that they dont bother to really take care of your nails. Also, I noticed that if not getting a regular manicure, they do not use sterile clippers to get the cuticles clean before the dip. They also use the same files for everyone. They do have those little square disposable buffer files that they do throw out after using on a customer, but the same nail files are used on everyone. Dont even get me started on the cleanliness of the place. Dried nail polish all over each station and rarely, if ever, do I see anyone cleaning. I def. would NOT recommend this place. I last minute went here today after having a not so great experience at another salon. (for reference, this is what I had asked for at both salons). The first salon said they couldn't do it and gave me a normal french manicure but the length and shape was all wrong and I was really unhappy. The nail tech Annie at Salem NailBar was FANTASTIC!!! She was so sweet, attentive, and asked me how I was liking my nails through every step of the process. I'm so incredibly happy with how my nails turned out, I've never had a better manicure in the 10 years I've been getting my nails done. Personally I think she did even better than the inspo pic! This is the second time I've come in for a gel pedicure and a gel manicure and have gotten the same nail technician, Tiffany, who completely rushes through both services. My appointment was at 4:45 and I was done by 5:15. She does not scrub feet, do cuticles, nothing of quality that is supposed to be included in the service that I am paying for. My sister was next to me and she is still in her appointment now just starting her nails after pedicure at 5:20. This was a $100 dollar trip that lasted 30 mins. I have been going to this place for a while now, and today I had such an awful experience there. My friend and I had scheduled an appointment to get our nails done. I get there about five minutes early and let the man know I'm here early for an appointment and my friend is on her way. They tell me to sit down at the nail bar right away and I explain I want to wait for my friend. They lead me towards the nail bar saying "i take care of you. " They don't let me pick my color first also. I go sit down. I explain again that I'm here for an appointment with my friend and I'm early and they say ok sit down. Then someone else sits down next to me in which i have to speak up in which in return they say my friend should be here. I tell them again that i was early and my appointment time just hit the clock and she will be here any minute. They put the tin foil and nail polish remover on my hands. Ugh. I hate writing bad reviews but I had a couple things I did not particularly like about this nail salon. I came here because I was in the area and have heard about it I got a dip manicure. My lady was very sweet. But did my dip in 30 mins .. the chairs were all right next to each other which I didn't really like because I would rather be a little further from guests if possible. No one wore gloves and I didn't see anyone really washing their hands enough to be dealing with hand on hand contact. My dip cracked that night on my index finger and then the next day my pinky. So I was VERY upset because they are so far from me so it's not convenient to go back and get it fixed. I will add pics here. My pink nail ended up breaking. Also these are my natural nails so it hurt when it broke. I have only been a few times but the few times I have been there, I had my Dip Dye Manicure (which I have been getting at another place before they closed) and my nail pealed 3 times. The first 2 times, I had to go back and have it fixed - 2 days later, 5 days later and on the 3rd, time I phoned and the woman who answered the phone told me I can come back but I keep complaining - my husband was right next to me when I made the call and said I didn't complain at all - i was letting them know the facts. I will preface this by saying I never complain about anything but this was unsanitary. I used to go here all the time and loved it but man have they gone down hill. I went and got a gel-x refill last week and truly could not wait for my appointment to be over. The man doing my nails had his thumb nail grown out and then cut at an approximate 45° angle that he used to clean up polish on my skin instead of an actual tool... GAG. He used his own filthy nails to scrape under and around my nails and it honestly made me sick. The whole thing experience on top of that felt extremely rushed and uncomfortable (which of course him rushing meant more was getting on my skin, and cleaned up his way). On top of all this there were multiple occasions where I sat there for a good solid 45-60 seconds mid service when he just stopped to start answering text messages and laugh about things on his phone with the other ladies working. I get it, people aren't machines and should enjoy where they work and be able to laugh and have fun with their coworkers but I take issue with it when it affects the services that i'm paying my hard earned money on. It was just a really unprofessional, unsanitary, experience which is not what you should be receiving when you are paying a lot of money for a service. I went in for a manicure for the first time in my life. Nothing fancy, no gels, acrylics, or anything of that nature. First, a little backstory... you see, my problem is I have the unfortunate habit of picking the skin around my nails, and sometimes picking/tearing the nails themselves. I am trying to resolve this habit, but it's a work in progress. The state of my cuticles also wasn't great. Still, in light of the fact that I have made some strides in keeping this habit in check, I decided to have my nails professionally cared for. I also hope that having my fingers look nice will help keep me from yanking at my skin. In any case, my biggest concern going in was that it was going to hurt or be very unpleasant. I'm glad to report that I felt no pain, and felt mild, momentary discomfort once. My manicurist worked with diligence and precision, taking care at each step to make sure everything would be done impeccably and painlessly! Also, I don't know if this is common practice with manicures, but I liked the part with exfoliation and moisturizing of my hands. I have attached before and after photos so you can judge for yourself. However, when you view the attached photos, please be advised that not all damage from my unfortunate habit can be repaired with a manicure, which explains the slightly inconsistent nail length and imperfect skin. Overall, while a manicure may not be a common indulgence for me, should I need to have my fingers cleaned up, I will not hesitate to come here again. read more

My daughter recently came in, did her nails today and wasn't informed of the price beforehand. We were surprised by the $90 charge which seems excessive for the service provided. She also requested powder nails, but the technician applied gel instead this wasn't what she wanted. As my daughter is only 15. I'm concerned that the technician didn't confirm the price of service with her before proceeding. It's important for nail salons to be clear about pricing especially with the younger client. I appreciate it if the nail technician could review the pricing policies to ensure clients are informed of cost upfront. It's crucial that their technicians confirm the desired service in price with all clients, especially minor before starting any work. I'm concerned about the price discrepancy and the fact that the service provided wasn't what was requested. It's important for BUSINESSES to be upfront about pricing especially with the younger clients who may not be familiar with Salon practices. My daughter only young, and I feel she have been taken advantage of. Honest and transparent pricing is essential building trust with Customers. Very Disappointed! The technician was very careless and inattentive. She made no attempt to make sure I was comfortable.   The tub was not set up when I was asked to follow her to the seat. The technician turned the water on and then left. The water was very hot and I was unable to put my feet in the water. She also clipped the inside of my big toe causing so much pain. She showed me a piece of nail and said nothing to see if I was ok. She only pumiced very rough on the outsides of my feet. She forgot to pumice my left heel and I had to ask her if she could do that after she returned from going to the bathroom. She did pumice both feet again but very rough and for a short time. I also left with spots of cream on both legs and feet as she did not wipe it all off. I was also concerned with the establishment as it is very dirty inside. My daughter and I came in for a pedi today on Mother's Day, and the pedi was rushed , the water was cold , the nail tech was rude and not pleasant. She had an attitude because my 5 yr old wanted cheetah print and I was going to get the same as her because it's her favorite animal. My lady did not even know how to do a simple cheetah design and had to ask someone to help. And at that point I just did my big toes because they were struggling . My daughters toes were 42+tip and mine where 52+ tip and our pedis lasted 20 mins including the time it took them to paint them. Don't waste your money here. This is my first time here and last. I had requested a soak off and new set bc it was time for new acrylics. I did not receive a soak off- the technician used a toenail clipper and peeled all my acrylics off using a nail tip. I hate it when they do that bc it's really bad for your nails and is very painful. She knew what she was doing so it hurt less than normal, but there's a reason I asked for a soak off removal my current set. When it came time for shaping I told her I wanted nails a similar shape to what had come in with. She got frustrated and explained away her rushed shaping job saying they'll get rounder when I use them. Overall I'm unhappy with the shape as it looks sloppy and isn't the same from one nail to the next. My entire service including removal and new set being put on and painted was a total of 45 minutes. This is too fast for quality work- additionally she was working on her next client immediately after I paid so they schedule less than an hour for services that usually take at least an hour or more. No wonder she didn't soak my nails off- it would have taken too long. I felt rushed and am overall unhappy with my outcome. Additionally this salon does not follow good Covid protocols. All the manicure stations are immediately next to each other and you're pretty much shoulder to shoulder with the next guest. There are no barriers, they don't take your temp, or make you wash your hands or use hand sanitizer. I didn't receive any cuticle clean up but I probably wouldn't have wanted it anyways since I'm not sure about their sanitation standards. If you're looking for a really quick in and out service with no frills and less customer service this is your spot. If you want to develop a relationship with a technician and feel like they listen this is not the place. read more

Despite having visited the salon numerous times, the gel manicure I received from a nail tech I've never seen before, fell short of expectations. Upon arriving home, I contacted the salon to report the issues, including uneven nail lengths, careless color application, and unpainted sides. Additionally, the technician's decision to cut my nails after applying the color which resulted in a crooked finish. Im leaving town tonight and I am unable to return to the salon today for corrections. They offered a 50% discount when I return because I will be gone "too long." I let him know that was unacceptable, stressing that I had already paid for terrible service and was unwilling to pay additional costs. The manager said that this was the best offer available, citing salon policy. I would not recommend the Salem nail bar. Customer service and salon policy are terrible. They aren't willing to fix their mistakes unless it can be done immediately. read more

I think they are the best place in the area. I moved from Boston and wanted a place that did fast, high-quality work, and this is the place.

THE perfect example of don't judge a book by its cover -- this salon looks updated (ish-- if you're into the outdated "updated" look, ie Ikea filigree mirrors and chandeliers vibe) but is absolutely a rush you out, cheap as possible, quick and extremely dirty, hole in the wall level work, at best honestly. I normally see a qualified person for my acrylic nails, but broke one, and moved to the area, and have driven by and noticed it's usually busy, so I figured what's one broken French nail repair? I went in and was taken right away, and that's the last normal thing that happened. My nail head broken, just the tip, causing no damage to my natural nail, and honestly no pain at all because it was broken so close to the tip, very minor. She looked at my name first thing she asked if I have a regular nail person I see or if I plan on going there. I said I do plan on staying with the amazing person in Winthrop that has been doing my nails for three years, but I would love a back up person for removals, pedicures, and nail needs in between, and she looked annoyed. The real issue is what happens next-- SHE REPAIRED MY NAIL BY LITERALLY GLUEING AN ACRYLIC TIP ON TOP OF MY BROKEN UNREMOVED POWDER FILL! See photos below because it is truly unheard of. She attempted to let me leave with my "repaired" nail Literally looking like steps on the side, two complete different heights. I was literally in shock that this is how it had come out, and showed her what I was talking about to which she really danced around why she would do something like that, saying "I didn't want to hurt you," (by soaking my nail off and repairing it? ) and that I "looked busy" so she didn't want to waste my time. The real answer is extremely obvious, LAZY, and to get me out as fast as possible. Even if I had never gotten my nails done it looks insane enough that it would tip me off, But as a person that has gotten their nails done for 20 years, I have never ever seen a nail repaired like this in my entire life, and for obvious reasons it looks awful. Although this was my major issue it wasn't the only one, so now that I'm here-- they bullied me into getting a gel change for my newly filled nails, as I was just there for a repair I wasn't excited but I'm not want to argue especially about price, so I said OK, but that logic also didn't make sense, I had a simple French manicure, and she said I had to get a color because she couldn't match the basecoat even though I said multiple times I didn't really mind if it matched perfectly just anything was close was fine. At the end she was obviously annoyed with me for mentioning what a strange outcome my nail had, she literally offered me sparkly pink and nothing else, I even asked if there was something just a little bit less pink and she looked at me dead pan and said no, with thousands of colors including the exact one I was asking for it right behind her, but Jenny is too lazy to look for colors, file a nail, Remove anything, or to rectify a lazy choice. I also noticed the woman next to me get dark red gel applied to freshly buffed nails with no gel base coat so... I honestly wouldn't even trust him with a simple gel manicure, but absolutely under no circumstance never walk in here with acrylics. And if you get Jenny run, You could waste an hour and a half, end up with a dump truck sized nail like mine, and have to pay $40 for a "gel polish color change."
