If you want someone who is talented and understands what this technique is, you can stop looking now. I have done the research and spent the money for you, so you don't have to. My journey to get to Amanda started here. I have been rehoused to the Seattle area since we lost our home in the Malibu wildfires in 2018. As a result of cleaning out our condo, two months later, my husband and I were both diagnosed with cancer within three weeks of each other. Beginning a very long year of treatment, I had my head shaved. It grew in an ugly mousey grey. I named the color, "Rat Bitch Grey". I began the long search for a stylist who was knowledgeable, specifically in "Grey Blending". Grey blending is a hair coloring "weaving" technique that incorporates some of your existing grey, and adding low and highlight colors, creating a more a more seamless transition to a natural silver look, without the heavy lines of demarcations at the roots of your hair. What I found was that many stylists call grey blending a "color correction" and it's common for stylists to charge an hourly or daily rate for this service. It's not a color correction really. I have had years of using high and lowlights on my blond hair and not charged for a color correction. Color correction means they don't have training experience in grey blending. With so much of the population turning grey, hair stylists will be doing lots of grey blending in the future. Don't be fooled. Then I discovered, Amanda, a stylist at the Teze Salon in Puyallup, WA. I found her on Instagram and wrote to her about my dilemma. Not only did she nail the haircut I wanted, but she also created a stunning, personally unique color and cut, that parallels the services I had as a client at the Sally Hershberger salon in L.A. and NYC, or the three salons in Downtown Seattle that I went to. They all falsely advertised "grey blending services " in their menus too. All BS imho. We are now living seasonally both in Malibu and Seattle, and I seriously might fly back for a few days to get my hair done by Amanda t the Teze again. With my health struggles abating, I want to celebrate by looking great. Because for me, when my hair looks good, I feel better. I will post pictures later.

Most hairdressers just don't like cutting your hair dry and think I'm nuts when I've asked for this, because that isn't the way they were trained in beauty school. Well, not anymore, we have Trisha at Hair Muse curly girls! Trisha did the Deva cut (cutting it dry) on my curly hair and listened to how I styled it and she took her time. I'm impressed and she didn't cut it too short, she gave my head of curls a shape! My hair looks and feels so much better. She even took the time to show me some new tricks when diffusing it! She was nice and very personable too! I'm just thrilled I have finally found someone in Tacoma who understands the curly hair dilemmas. I will be going back! My Deva cut was $55 plus a tip. I've had a rough road on my braiding journey with my braids not being able to last more than 2 weeks at most due to scalp irritation with multiple stylist in the past. Coretha took her time during my consult to explain the possible causes and identifying her approach to get me back on track with getting the positive experience I desired. She provided a discount code for the banana fiber hair I wanted to try and had no issues with using this braiding hair. It was truly educational. During my appointment I was able to experience her wealth of knowledge, admiration for her work, and the caring nature she has for her clients. Not to mention the space was top notch! After my appointment, she walked me to my car to make sure that I made there safely. She also checked in with me via text to see how things were going with my scalp. I am so happy to say that I am now 3 weeks out from my appointment with a positive experience and did not need to take my braids out nor have I experienced my scalp burning, bleeding, or itching like my previous experiences. Instead, my card was charged $220, which is a $80 difference from what I was quoted. I came in specifically for a hair color and was very clear about the color I wanted. Before getting the service, I asked multiple times if the color I showed in my reference pictures was achievable, and I was repeatedly reassured that it was. I showed several examples to make sure there was no confusion about what I was asking for. Unfortunately, the final color was not what I requested, and the stylist even had to go back in with toner on my roots, but I still did not end up with the color I had asked for. On top of that, I did not come in for a haircut. The stylist asked if I wanted one, and I agreed to a very minimal trim. Instead, she cut off significantly more than I wanted. The combination of being charged $80 more than my original quote, not receiving the color I specifically asked for, and having much more hair cut than I requested is extremely frustrating. If I was going to be charged significantly more than I was originally quoted, I at least expected to leave with the result I had clearly communicated that I wanted. My hair also wasn't all one color I have 3 different shades in my hair now. I'm very disappointed with the overall experience and would not have expected this from a professional salon.

I am very UNHAPPY with a recent hair service where I received unexpected highlights from a new…read moreemployee, McKenna, even though I clearly asked for a solid, all-over hair color. I booked for all over color and later was told it would be a bleaching service instead if I wanted to go lighter. I agreed to all over color and going lighter. So this was fine. I originally had all over hair color that was dark brown with naturally grown out roots (2-3 inches). Then McKenna mentioned she was doing something similar to "balayage" when the other stylist and their client asked what she was doing to my hair. I clearly communicated my preference against highlights multiple times, even questioning the stylist during the process when her technique appeared inconsistent with a solid application. Despite assurances of an all-over color, my hair developed "dimensions" and it was BLONDE with noticeable damage to my hair. I thought she was coloring my roots but she was creating "dimensions". Dimensions is not all over color. Dimensions is "highlights", streaks, and lines that's not all over color. I wanted one solid color and for my black roots to be matching the brown all over color. Does that make sense? Does that mean I want highlights? When I contacted the business via email, the owner responded. We went back and forth few times. She only offered to have McKenna fix it, which I didn't want, and suggested just toning it darker, which I knew wouldn't stop the highlights from reappearing. The salon owner's subsequent offer to explain why "highlights" were necessary, rather than acknowledging the deviation from my original request, further illustrates a misunderstanding of my concerns. This experience represents a critical breakdown in communication and trust, as I was misled about the service being performed and would have sought a different salon. I don't think this salon does lift and color method. Or the owner is protecting the new stylist's mistakes. Regardless, McKenna is busy posting on Instagram. There is a photo of my hair and titles it "Behind the scenes" like it is a proud moment for her to lie to a client rather than reaching out to apologize. She should have been saving my hair from being burnt off other than taking photos at the sink. My hair is burnt off and I'm pretty she noticed it when she was blow drying my hair. She failed to mentioned the blotches and missing hair. I did not even get the deep conditioning treatment that I requested. I did get anything that I requested or wanted! In the end, I have unwanted highlights and less hair than before. My hair color is further away from my intended goal because she ignored everything that I said and gave me brassy highlights. I requested for refund or another stylist at the same location to correct my hair. That's when communication stopped and the owner never responded again. This service totaled $270. Here's the thing. New stylist and seasoned stylists can make mistakes! But the stylist is posting on social media other than apologizing. The business owner doesn't understand why you don't want to be getting your done by the same stylists that did everything other than what you have requested... this is not a good business to support.
