Very tasty Thai food. We ordered Pad Thai, Chicken Skewers and Tom Yum Soup to share. Their portion size was not bad. Everything was very tasty. Ingredients were fresh. I really liked the chicken skewers. The sauce was tasty. What I really liked most was their vinegar cucumbers that came with the chicken skewers. wow that was super freshing. The Pad Thai was ok. It wasn't the most authentic. They made it to suit westerners taste buds using mostly local sauces and not with the traditional tamarind sauce. The Tom Yum Soup was delicious. It was nothing out of the ordinary. I liked how they used big prawns in the soup. Prices were reasonable and there are plenty of available parking at the mall. I highly recommend trying this place.

Best Thai food I've had in a long long time! My boyfriend and I visited the island from Vancouver Thanksgiving weekend. We were craving Asian cuisine and came across Friendly Thai. My boyfriend has been to Thailand and said the food was comparable. Covid measures were in place. Only 3 booths were available for dine in, servers wearing masks. They were very busy with take out. We ordered papaya salad, stuffed eggplant and yellow curry with beef. All were delicious. Favorite was stuffed eggplant - shrimp paste, eggplant and black bean sauce with mix peppers. Definitely recommend and would come back to the sunshine coast for this!

Chicken wings with spicy sauce.. we ate most of them before me taking this photo!

This place expands my knowledge base of Thai dishes. Brian broke out from his parents' famous…read moreVancouver restaurant to branch out with his own tastes of Thai cuisine, making his theme "Thai street food". Don't look for chicken satays here - he's sick and tired of a lifetime of grilling these for customers. Yeah, for him, it's the pork. And ho boy, does he grill it well. Some dishes are 3 styles of pork, and I keep getting his pork jowls: the most buttery, soft pillowy grilled pork I've had in ages. But back to the street food part - it's more the vibe of the place: down-to-earth, 90's pop culture posters and Thai toys, a VHS player showing non-stop clamshell family movies (the other screen shows 90's and noughts' comedies and action movies pointed at the bar end of the kitchen). Sure, Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles, along with your Green, Yellow and Massamun curries abound on the menu, and they're all big portions bursting with flavour, but here's what I go for: The specials. Oh, they've showcased lemongrass fried rice, lard na, clam pancakes, ohhhh... most of the time (and we go almost once a week) these are all I order and I skip the regular menu. And the cocktails! Jerry has a lineup of such unique drinks that I just cycle through the menu, trying a different one each visit. She keeps tweaking the recipes until she's got each a perfect concoction before we even see it on the menu - I keep asking her what she's working on each time I'm there and she fills me in on her latest liquid experiment. Service is great - Nancy and team are all so friendly, they know when to leave you to enjoy and when to stop by and chat. It's a cozy, social place where the wok's always fired up and just makes me smile to be there every time I go with friends or family.

I got their Mussamun Curry (Potatoes, seasonal vegetables, onions, fried shallots, peanuts and Jasmine rice) with tofu. Huge portions, this can serve 2 portions! Tons of vegetables that are fresh and not just carrots. They have enoki mushrooms, broccoli, carrots, and what I think is eggplant. I didn't get potatoes or fried shallots, but they could be in the other half. I got it to go and they were all very friendly. This meal was $22 and really well balanced. I can't wait to try more of their dishes!

They…read morehad a bunch of visual tricks and garnishings, but the meal itself was nothing special and the wine pairing did not suit the meal at all. I have had many better Thai experiences throughout the lower mainland at a fraction of the price and with better service. I even asked a question of our waiter and he nervously responded, "I'm sorry, but we are not allowed to converse with the guests." Both myself and my friend who invited me thought this was very odd and it put a dark mood on the evening as we felt like we were being watched by the owners. It was creepy. A couple of other friends of mine also had similar experiences remarking that that staff are always walking on eggshells to the point where it dampened their experience. The experience was an unfortunate waste. Afterwards, we went to a different seafood restaurant in Steveston to get a full meal and we were satisfied by that experience, thank goodness. I have since steered many interested parties away from this restaurant and will continue to do so. **Plus, I don't know why it's stated here on Yelp that they have a Michelin Star, because according to the Michelin Guide, they do not. If Michelin has awarded them one, then Michelin stars mean nothing.

Portions are small, but clearly designed for a fine-dining experience rather than a filling meal. Standouts: The Pad Thai was impressive and well-balanced, especially for someone very familiar with Thai food. But the highlight for me was the Organic Coconut Galangal Soup with Crispy Wild Sockeye Salmon -- deeply flavorful, comforting, and the dish that truly stayed with me. Service: Attentive and thoughtful. I was here for my birthday and received a greeting letter and card, which made the experience feel extra special. Value: Pricey, yes -- but when you factor in the food, service, and overall experience, it's worth it for a special occasion. Highly recommended for celebrations or a meaningful night out.

However, a reputable source who lives in Whistler said they had eaten several meals there that were not that great. I decided to chance it and order takeout. I got the Thai laksa curry noodles, made vegan by just removing the chicken. I clarified to make sure there was no egg in the noodles. I got 2 out of 5 star spicy. I also ordered the mango sticky rice for dessert, which is vegan by default. Had to call to place the order, and the first time I called it went to voicemail so I waited a few minutes and called back. Food was ready in 15 minutes, and it was still hot and honestly quite tasty. The laksa was well flavored and spiced, it wasn't bland but I'd probably get 3 stars next time. It's simple, noodles, sauce, onions, and the tofu. Tofu was cooked well, but it was a lot of noodles and the noodles didn't really hold the sauce well so sometimes a mouthful of noodles didn't have a ton of sauce/flavors. Mango sticky rice was very tasty. I would definitely get it again. I might get the laksa again, but I'd like to try more things and see how they are.
