I went here to see a band on Saturday, March 18. The band was awesome and so was the crowd in attendance. My lower rating is because there was only one bartender the whole night, trying to serve a packed house. It was ridiculous and I almost felt sorry for her, but I could also see that she was very overwhelmed. I believe she was a new hire. Also, I asked for three different beers that were on the menu, but either she could not find them or they were not in stock. If you're going to have entertainment, and anticipate a large crowd, at least hire one more bartender. read more

I love the Friendly Bar and Tap! As an occasional drinker going to bars has always intimidated me. Bartenders at other establishments are often abrupt and unwelcoming towards people with no expertise in beer and liquors. Not here! The bartenders are warm and welcoming and make me feel at home. There is live music here, open mics, and other events. A coffee lounge and music school are attached to this establishment and they all operate seamlessly together to provide a real anchor to the amateur music community in the Berwyn / Oak Park sates. The bar only serves frozen pizza along with drinks. The diet soft drink is diet RC and it is honestly not very good. But the beer is good, they make classic cocktails, and they will throw a frozen pizza in the oven for you, all at a very reasonable price. I bring my daughter to the coffee lounge side of the establishment and we play board games and eat pizza here and drink sodas. Th community feeling here is unlike any other establishment I have come across. It is a teal asset to the community. The open mics are very supportive and welcoming of all ability levels. Adult beginners are welcomed here, as well as advanced players. If you are bored or lonely and want to put down roots in the community take music lessons at the Friendly School if Music, attend open mics and band performances at the bar, stop in for coffee or tea and baked goods in the coffee lounge (daytime hours mostly, but you can access the room at night for board games and you can buy whatever pastries have not yet sold that day). Friendly Tap - Bars Near Me - Berwyn, Illinois

I don't know what's going on here but the last time I came in I was not as excited about being here. It was weird, people were going to the basement and hanging out for an hour+ and when I asked the bartender what was downstairs she said, 'Oh, the ice machine is down there'. 5 people don't need to be going downstairs for an hour for ice and come back empty handed. Not that I expected to be told what exactly was taking place but if something shady is happening, and this is just my guess, don't let everyone see it and then give a BS answer. read more

A true old school dive bar that's owned by a local musician. So the tunes are always great. And it's truly friendly.

I'm a bit biased here, so I'll probably end up being filtered! My husband plays in The Yellowhammers, with the owner, Rob Pierce. They have a standing practice at FT, the First Thursday of every month. Bias aside, Friendly Tap lives by it's motto, "You are a stranger here, but once". Absolutely, the nicest crowd of regulars and characters in any bar I've been too (And I've been in A LOT!). Rob is really working to bring in good quality music to add to the growing music scene on the West Side. They've got a great jukebox and selection of vinyl when the live music is over! read more

COFFEE/LATTES - In Berwyn, we have two stops for coffee and this is always first choice. The other good option is Mission House. Anyway, Friendly Tap is a bar, but they do coffee. I often just call on my way to order my latte(s) and they are happy to do that. It's low key delicious coffee and if you try it, you may not go back to the place you go now. They also have some good cinnamon-sugar donuts if you're feeling frisky. read more

Been here a couple of times now. It's your typical corner bar with all of the awesome bells and whistles. Poker machines, live music, coffee, and a hell of a loungey atmosphere. The bartenders I have dealt with were Bob or Daniel and both were great and patient. I broke glasses both times I went there. I went to this place last week to see a friend perform in the adjoining room. Gotta say this place is pretty cool. it really is friendly! It is old school and ya walk away feeling like you just went back in time and hung out in an old chicago bar for a night. booze is reasonably priced and the music is good. the adjoing room has good accoustics for the live music. read more

Eh, was walking home one night and decided to stop in. The woman bartender is not very friendly, I felt as if I was bothering her. I asked about the Thursday night special and she told me "sorry, that special is only for the daytime". I said ok and asked for MGD, I decided to leave after my second, very small bar... I was told there was live music...can't imagine a band and it being packed. read more
