When I just moved into a house I recently purchased and moved out the previous owners'…read morerefrigerator, I found mold on the wall next to the refrigerator. I tried not to panic and cleaned it off with bleach. I also called Environix a week or so later because I smelled that mildewy musty smell. Brian was very nice to me on the phone -- gave me advice, told me more about mold, etc. I was very pleasantly surprised that he didn't do what most companies would do -- tell me he can't tell me anything until he comes to look at it (and charges me). We left it at I will paint it with a mold killing paint that I bought and if I still smelled the smell, to call back and someone would come take a look. Unfortunately, I did have to call them back a couple weeks later and Dustin came to my house. He was great. Given the panic factor that the word "mold" elicits in me (and others I'm sure), he could have played off that and tried to sell me a lot of costly services. But he didn't -- and I really appreciate that. He did a thorough inspection of the room and the crawl space below it and talked to me for quite a while about a plan forward. Yes, I paid for his visit but it was well worth the cost because we came up with a plan for me to address the mold issue (which is thought to currently be limited to the laminate flooring which needs to be replaced anyway). So, I'll try the steps that he and I discussed and hopefully not have to call them again. However, if it doesn't work, I will definitely call them (and recommend them to others) because they are not only helpful but they seem to be very honest and willing to help people (i.e., not just make a quick buck).

He could have recommended expensive interventions, but instead he shared information with us for free. We really admired his knowledge and integrity.

Seattle is so lucky to have Sam with Common Sense Inspections now in the area. His services are…read morehelpful in this toxic world for any new family, ANYONE at all hoping to not be stealthily poisoned by their own home, or people with allergies. I have moved so many time in the last 3 years since I got diagnosed with an immune system disease which causes chemical and mold sensitivity. It's been a nightmare until I met Sam. Whenever I've signed a lease on renting a house or apartment, I've gone into it sort of blind just crossing my fingers that there weren't hidden chemicals in the hardwood floor finish or mold hidden in the walls, but then, sure enough, my first night there, my tongue would swell and I would be very sick living in my own home. Now I can get Sam to test out a place with his fancy equipment (infrared cameras to look for water damage throughout house, VOC measurements in the air, particulate matter, Carbon Monoxide and gas leak monitors, etc.) before I move in so I can be rest assured that it's safe for me! He's tested my apartment, now the house I'm moving into and renting, and even my car for mold and VOCs (noxious chemicals)! He gives such detailed and specific suggestions of how to make sure your house is safe, in terms of how far to put the rain drain so it doesn't cause water damage, what kind of air filters are good, to what kind of mattress might be good to sleep on so you're not getting toxins absorbed at night! His medical understanding of people with health needs - from asthma to Lyme Disease to chemical injury to just run-of-the-mill dust allergies - is so rare. On top of everything, he explains things so well and is a delight to be around. Thank you, Sam!!
