Update: I decided to reduce their stars to zero due to shadiness. My husband had more to say on the garage door incident. First, they broke the garage door because they didn't know how to stop it from closing (hint: it's the STOP button), then they don't call us but try to fix it on the sly. We had to hear from the HOA president that they were banging at the door with hammers. When asked numerous times for a work order saying they repaired the door, they deflected then flat out refused. They did bring in a "professional" to inspect the repair and send us a memo veryfying the repair. HOWEVER, all that memo said was that they were called for a repair, when they arrived, the door was repaired and in working order. They deliberately omitted the fact that One Step had performed the repair to avoid liability. I think the only reason the rest of the job went well was because they were trying to make up for this incident. We just have to see if any hidden surprises pop up from their abatement job.

This is a family run company that bid the lowest of the four companies we researched. Another reason we chose to go with them is that they were able to start ASAP. Since we would have been homeless if they didn't finish on schedule, they were pretty considerate of our time by submitting the permits the day we accepted their estimate and setting up the condo a few days before they were allowed to start removing the popcorn/asbestos (the mandatory 10 day waiting period).
There was one early snafu where they unhooked part of the garage door and woke up our neighbors by trying to fix it. They really should have called us when it happened, but they made up for it by calling out a repairman on their dime to fix and inspect it. They gave us documentation for the HOA saying what broke, how it was fixed, and verifying functionality.
Otherwise, their work was very good. The conservative estimate was four days to remove 700 sq ft of popcorn ceiling. At first, we were worried since that would mean having to spend one or two days in a hotel and finding a place to store all our stuff. Good news is that they were finished in 2.5 days, exactly as we needed. They sanded down the ceiling twice and left the area in great condition.
They are a great group of guys and they did really good work. I had no complaints from the neighbors while they were on site (apart from the garage door incident, which was rectified with some coffee and donuts). I would definitely recommend them. read more
