A DEMOLISHING COMPANY WITH A HEART! I can't say enough good things about Affordable Environmental, the owner Tony Chase, and his work crew. I've been trying off and on to leave a review and finally figured it out. In Spring 2023, Tony was hired to demolish a condemned 1930's farm house on my property that needed to come down. Everything was done on time, responsibly, and by the book, with asbestos abatement included. All for a very competitive price. And then the big twist happened, which really confirmed Tony's stellar reputation: After being told by the asbestos workers that there may be an old log cabin underneath the farm house, Tony took his time and "skinned" the side off, rather than just demolishing everything. He was able to do so because he is very skilled with a track hoe; it was like watching an artist at work! And sure enough, underneath was a solid log cabin structure that our local historical society estimates to be an old logging cabin from circa 1870's. Intact cabins like this are very hard to find and a historic preservationist is currently conducting research to confirm the age and ownership. But Affordable Environmental, aka Tony Chase, didn't stop there. Tony felt very strongly about keeping this historic find safe during the winter so it wouldn't deteriorate. He volunteered the materials and staff time to construct a roof structure, wrap the building in plastic, and install one of his own large dehumidifiers to keep it dry inside. And it's working! I found the entire experience to be awesome and quick. Vicki is an amazing manager and is quick to respond to question and offer reasonable prices. I did a comparison with other bids and based on the fast communication and clear expectations, I went with Affordable Environmental. The crew was nice and worked fast- I had just over 500 sq feet scraped in 2 days. They had the entire place taped out with plastic and a fan running on the back deck so my condo neighbors were not disturbed at all! I did not find my place messy or dusty, it was pristine. There was some damage done to a closet door, but it needed to be replaced, so I'm not unhappy about it (do a walk-through with the crew at the end, however). The end result made me very happy. Very little damage to the ceiling with maybe some patches that I feel comfortable sanding down myself and doing some quick spackle-patching. I can save thousands of dollars because of the minimal damage right now (with the hope of getting pros to skim-coat the ceiling at a later date). Thank you crew! Project: Popcorn Ceiling Removal (containing asbestos) I hate to write bad reviews for anybody, but I have to in this case. I would give the lowest rating I could but because Vicki was nice and supportive, I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1. We chose AE solely based on the great reviews we read. We want to hire a professional service because we have an infant, and we were sure they are going to do great after talking to Vicki. In the morning three gentlemen who weren't that communicative showed up and started the job. None of them wore mask, which made me wonder if they really deem as asbestos a serious hazard. They finished 760 sf of ceiling in a day. I was excited to see the results. In contrast with what I read here, my ceiling was badly damaged with deep cuts all over the place, my walls had red stains due to the sprays on the ceiling and asbestos dusting all around the edges of walls, behind the fridge, top of the cabinets, inside all the vents, on the edge of the light switches, and so on (see photos). It was immediately obvious that they didn't cover the area completely with plastic. The original contractor I hired to patch the ceiling refused the job right after he saw the results. And I had difficulty finding someone who is willing to take the job. Now the only positive thing here is that Vicki wasn't happy with how the workers handled the situation and made them go back (twice) to clean up the mess. She also discounted my invoice by $200. The deep cuts on the ceiling however she said it's pretty normal and it's a 6 out of 10 and she's seen worse, which I had nothing to say really (maybe I expected too much). Now I have to spend thousands more than I planned for just to fix the ceiling and paint the walls to cover all the orange stains. After talking to Vicki, I learned that it wasn't a regular crew they hired to do the job. We are pretty unlucky that they hired an external contractor to do our job in this case. It's unfortunate that we still don't have a peace of mind after paying for the service. EDIT: Today our new contractor pointed out all the remainder asbestos left on the ceiling and all around the edges. he's going to charge me more to get rid of them read more

I had the worst experience with this company. We had a project we got a estimate from the company and was supposed to move forward with them but communication was a nightmare. On the start date they never showed up, they finally got ahold of me days later after trying to contact them for days. We ended up finding another company but now we have to reschedule all of our other contractors due to being weeks behind schedule because of this company. read more

We closed on a home sale on a Friday, and had booked AE to remove popcorn ceilings on Monday. Team showed up promptly at 8 am Monday, masked and sealed everything and got right to work. Lots of good natured talk and banter, but no one every stopped working. Only time they sat still (aside from lunch taken while remover was soaking in) was the 45 minutes waiting on the lab test to determine cleanup/disposal. We ended up having less than 1% asbestos in our ceilings, but felt good with the approach given our desire to have the ceiling removed prior to move in and complications with lab testing during COVID. Was all cleaned up and gone by 4:30pm. We then worked with a dry wall team to refurbish ceiling, and they said it was one of the best removal jobs they had seen - the dry wall work and subsequent painting went quickly as they had a great substrate to work with. I needed asbestos flooring to be removed. The job was done, but the experience was frustrating at times. Tony came out to give a quote. He is a great guy. I would use them again because he was knowledgeable, straight, and affordable. We talked about what needed to be removed and where and agreed on it. Waited two weeks or so for them to start the job, no worries they're busy. I show up at the house to wait for them on the day they were going to start the job. Turns out the forgot equipment at a previous job and were going to be a couple hours late. Ok, that's fine no worries. I come to the house after they said they were all finished. I come to the house with the front door cracked open and no one inside, ok? They didn't fully close it, and obviously didn't lock it since it was open. I walk into the house, the containment area is still up. So they aren't fully done. I call, turns out they had an emergency job and hadn't finished taking down the containment area. Ok fine. They come that night to finish cleaning up the job. Then, I look at what they removed. They didn't remove a section of the flooring that needed to be removed. I call again, they send more guys out to remove what they missed. Annoying. Ok so the job is finally done. It took 10 days the get the air quality samples when they said it'd only take 5 (other than the clearance). read more

Without hesitation I recommend Affordable Environmental. After many bids and meeting with (too) many contractors for asbestos removal in our 1914 home, it was obvious that they were the right choice. We were so impressed by their professionalism, friendliness and attention to detail. They initially were concerned that they would not be able to completely remove asbestos from some of the old wood detail in our ceiling and warned us that some of the trim pieces may have to be removed to make it 100% safe. I appreciated that their goal was safety, and that they were up front about reasonable expectations. In the end they worked so carefully and thoroughly that they saved every piece of original wood. In their cleanup they also accidentally threw away our ceiling light fixtures. They were just construction cheapies, but they showed up at our house early Monday morning to deliver replacements. We recently purchased a condo from 1978 with popcorn ceilings. That means asbestos. We got three bids for the removal, and eventually chose Affordable Environmental to do the work. Tony, the estimator and owner, was very professional. He did a great job of explaining the work that would need to be done, what was involved, the risks (we also have radiant ceiling heat), and what we could expect once it was over. We were also very happy that the bid ended up coming in almost 50% lower than the initial number he gave me over the phone. I didn't really get a chance to interact with the folks who actually did the work; we let them in on Tuesday morning, and then picked up the keys on Thursday evening. What I can say is that they did an amazing job. They removed every trace of popcorn, even in some very hard-to-reach places. The ceiling was in shocking good condition. We had expected that we were going to need an extensive drywall repair job, but it actually looked almost as good as new. They even cleaned up the carpets; there had been quite a bit of popcorn chunks/dust (some of which was my own fault) when we started, and they completely cleaned out everything. Finally, when we got the bill, the price was exactly what was quoted at the beginning. No surprises. I hope I never need to, but I would hire Affordable Environmental again in a second. read more

I contracted Affordable Environmental to remove ~400 square feet of popcorn ceilings in my home. I dealt with Jolean while getting estimates and scheduling the work. Jolean was pretty communicative while setting up appointments for getting an estimate. I'm a little unclear why the administrators weren't the ones to set the appointments, because I had to wait a couple days in between calls when Jolean had time to call me back. In any case, I eventually got her out to my house in Kirkland to provide an estimate. She was on time and quick about her job. She didn't provide many details about the process, but I also didn't ask. She told me it was a single day job and that she'd provide me an estimate in the upcoming days. I received the estimate in a timely manner, and it was definitely the most competitive I received, so I went with them. When the contractors arrived to actually do the work, they immediately said it was actually going to be 2 days instead of 1 and that we couldn't stay there overnight. This was my biggest headache of the job because I had to quickly grab my dogs and some over night stuff for me and my wife. Luckily, we're still transitioning from our apartment, so we had a place (albeit with none of our stuff) to stay. I understand it takes what it takes, but having no advanced knowledge of it was quite the hassle. The work was completed in the time the workers said it would take. Overall, the work was very nicely done. I noticed a broken (missing) electrical outlet cover, missing paint near the ceilings, and a few staples that weren't removed from the plastic they put up, and a loose floorboard, but nothing too major. Overall, I'd recommend Affordable Environmental. The resulting work was well done and the price was right. I've since had a contractor come check out the ceilings to do the finishing work, and he also complimented the good work. However, I recommend dealing with Tony directly if possible, and not Jolean. read more

We hired Affordable Environmental to remove a wood floor that had been covered with asbestos tile and also to remove asbestos from our heater ducts. Having dealt with asbestos removal several times before, I know how expensive and shady the business can be. Contractors use asbestos or the threat of asbestos as an easy way to jack up the price of work. I got four bids to remove some wood flooring that had been covered in asbestos tile. The fourth contractor I interviewed was Affordable Environmental. On the way out the door, Tony noticed we also had asbestos in our heater vents which the first three contractors had walked right by. He pointed out that this was far more hazardous than the wood flooring. Tony was very honest and told me that he could take care of the heater vents, but he also told me that how to safely encapsulate the asbestos myself. I decided to let the pros handle this, but appreciated the honesty. Normally the state requires a waiting period before asbestos is removed. Since the asbestos in our ducts was "friable", Tony was able to call the state of WA and get an emergency permit to do the work. His crew arrive the next day and were done and gone by the time I got home from work. His prices were very reasonable, though not the very lowest of the contractors I interviewed. I felt like Tony was very straightforward and honest and at the end of the day I could not be happier with the quality of work that his crew did. While we're not going with Tony, purely due to cost, we are more than confident that his company would do a great job. We had a great experience with this company, under what are very stressful circumstances. The house we purchased needed an abatement, kitchen demolition and wall removal from black mold water damage. They called us back very quickly and were really friendly! They also talked us through the process of how the project would be handled and helped us save a lot of money by being very knowledgeable of the Washington state laws in regards to these types of projects. Their estimate also was extremely reasonable for the amount of work we needed done. The work itself was handled professionally, fast and with extreme care, all the necessary protection and clean up regulations were followed perfectly. The owner has been in the business for 30 plus years so himself and his team really knew how to do their work well. They even had to move existing kitchen appliances out of the area and cleaned them separately and then wrapped them up and moved them to our garage so they could do the main kitchen demolition and clean up, most importantly in our kitchen they safely removed and cleaned an expensive big granite top saving us 10k by not having to get a new kitchen countertop later and proceeded to demo the moldy cabinets. After the work was finished they were available to come back if I had any questions or concerns. The owner even gave me his personal number to call when I had some more questions about future renovations on our house and how to do it safely! He was absolutely a pleasure to work with and speak to and very knowledgeable in the information he gave me. We have never had a problem with call backs and all paperwork, job completion and break down including pricing and quotes were given to us and extremely professional. My wife and I hired Affordable Environmental to remove asbestos tainted popcorn ceilings. They did a great job and we highly recommend them. My wife and I recently purchased a 1970s home with approx. 3000 sq. ft. of popcorn ceilings that contained asbestos. I called Affordable Environmental first and Tony (owner) walked me through the removal process. I got a sense after that initial phone call that Tony was a straight forward guy. After working with him, I completely agree with Josh H.'s review that Tony is honest and I trusted his assessment of our project. I called five other contractors and no one explained the process as thoroughly as Tony. After receiving several bids, we went with Tony and Affordable Environmental. Affordable Environmental's price was not the lowest, but it was in the lower half of the five contractors I spoke to. The project went smoothly and was completed on time (in fact, a few hours early). The work was superb. I expected there to be a lot of scrapes and gouges in the ceiling from the removal, but I walked in the door and the ceiling looked as though the drywall was put up the day before. Seriously. I was blown away. Our painting contractor (who will mud and repaint the ceilings) was very impressed (almost shocked) with the work as well. In sum, asbestos is messy and I think its best to hire licensed professionals to take care of it. The ceilings were left in great condition and we could not find any damage from the process at all. It was easy for our other contractor to refinish the ceilings afterwards.
