We had a fantastic dinner here with a large party - very easy to make reservations and the tell you front that it will all be in one check. No worries. Our server was super kind and had been working there for years, so clearly they treat their staff well. Our meal was paced well, the server stayed on top of wine pours, helped us split dishes all around and recommended great options for both food and wine. Delicious food and amazing service. We were celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary and wanted somewhere special to go. We sat outside in the covered patio, it was comfortable and decorated nicely. We started with the fried green tomatoes, I have never had them with marinara sauce and mozzarella, but they were great. I had the 5oz filet with shrimp and my husband had the Jack Daniels steak. Food was amazing here, we got the fried green tomatoes to start along with chicken Marsala and the pesto tortellini. All entrees come with salad and bread which was freshly baked and just so yummy with the olive oil and Parmesan cheese. Amazing find! Went for New Year's Eve dinner. Even thought the place has mixed reviews , I decided to give it a go. And I'm happy I did! The place is very cute inside, reminiscent of an old Italian restaurant. The server was attentive but not overwhelming. Had the sweet chilli shrimp as appetizer, about 10 shrimps, very tasty and fresh. Now the house bread with parm, was really a hit. They make their own bread and they dipped it in butter. As main course the osso buco was a great choice. The meat was falling off the bone and the sauce was delicious. Really a great dish for a cold evening. Also had the seafood linguini which was also really delicious. For desert, the tiramisu came in first and crème brûlée on second. It was a bit on the expensive side but it was really worth it. Food portions were just right and even though the restaurant was packed, didn't feel rushed. Definitely recommend! read more

We had an outstanding experience at this establishment!! We recommend calling in advance because it was pretty busy on Saturday night and we did need a reservation. Ambiance was romantic but also a great spot for a small group. It is deceivingly large and can accommodate a lot of tables. Service was so friendly and prompt, we never felt like we were stuck waiting. 10/10 recommend trying the steak martini as an appetizer. Split perfectly for two people, it was delicious and unique. Great especially if you wanted a taste of steak/potatoes but wanted to order something different than that for your entree. Everything we tried was fantastic, you can't go wrong! Chicken and pastas were perfectly cooked. Don't skimp on dessert, the cheesecake was also divine. Would love to come back when we're in town! Free salad and bread! OK, I just had to say that first because when we ate at Fritz and Frites the first night we got into Galena, we were sooo hungry and wished that we had some free bread. Fried Green Tomatoes on the other hand delivered and then some! Having learned our lesson from the other place, we ordered the fried green tomatoes and crabcakes to start, so it was a pleasant surprise to get the free salad and bread as well. Everything was absolutely delicious, I had never had fried green tomatoes, and they impressed all of us, even my friend who didn't like normal tomatoes. For my main course, I ordered pork Osso Bucco, which was huge and so tender, it was falling off the bone! Some of us also tried dessert, and I ordered spumoni ice cream, which was very delicious and had some nuts at the bottom of the cup. I only small note was that we made a reservation, but when we came in, they said they were running behind and we had to wait an additional 30 minutes. They were very apologetic about it and thankfully the service was excellent and we ordered right away and got the appetizers and (did I mention the) free bread!!! OK, enough about the free bread, anyway, even though we had a slightly longer. Wait, as we were waiting, multiple groups came in to inquire and the host said it was a two hour wait! One of the most popular restaurants in Galena - so a reservation is a must. They do have an outside seating - in the back so definitely put in a request for that when you make your reservation. We were able to sit outside for dinner earlier this week. It's not a beautiful view, but it's outside, so I will take it. I fell in love with the White Zinfandel there and drank a few glasses of it while my husband got the Paloma. For appetizers - we had to get the fried green tomatoes. It was really good - not your usual presentation b/c there was marinara. Our entrees came with bread and salad - which were good. For entrees - I got the Cauliflower steak and my husband got the garlic and spinach tortelloni. Both entrees were good and would recommend to others - but nothing outstanding. Everything went right when we decided to pop in for dinner last minute as a fam of 4 with no reservation. We were given our wait options very kindly, and were very pleasantly surprised when the wait was a fraction of that. It's fine for what it is. It's Galena and touristy here. Food is subpar and decidedly average. But I don't want to be unfair. It's a small touristy town and I can't expect what you would get in a Chicago or NY. I had the lobster ravioli and it was bland. The pasta was too thick and the sauce wasn't seasoned enough. Hubby had the tenderloin and he said it was decent. Couldn't taste the espresso crust at all and that was supposed to be a featured element. I will say we are spoiled rotten with really good restaurant experience so I'd say if you're just looking for a place to eat it's fine. The price point isn't justified at all though. read more

We were seated right away and had a table by the window. We started with an appetizer of Fried Green Tomatoes which I haven't had before. They were delicious and definitely would get them again. I ordered the scallops with risotto and peas. Entrees come with house salad with a house dressing, pretty standard salad. The scallops and risotto were the stars of the meal. We went here to celebrate a special occasion . Cute and quaint choice when in Geneva, IL. Service was good. Food solidly good. We started with the fried green tomatoes which were good if you like eggplant parmigiana ( they were deep fried and covered in a red sauce and melted cheese). Good but not my favorite preparation for fried green tomatoes. We split a 20 oz porterhouse steak which was very good. All meals served with a decadent bread and a side salad. Husband also had a cup of the loaded sweet potato soup which was very good. We ordered a side of scallops for 16$ which were 2 minuscule scallops on a plate ( I literally laughed out loud when I saw them as total rip off for 16$!!) . They were quite good though. Fried Green Tomatoes seems like one of the few restaurants in Galena that are more elevated and expensive (and yet there's no dress code). Our appetizers were (the most obvious choice) fried green tomatoes and the sweet chilli shrimp. A solid pairing of heavy and light. They made their fried green tomatoes much like an eggplant Parmesan: lots of sauce snd covered in cheese. I'm not complaining because it was delicious, but that's a heavy dish. The entrees we ordered were both seafood but our server did tell us to come back to try their meats (bone in pork chop and filet mignon). The shrimp and scallop ravioli had a sauce that worked really well. The salmon was cooked to perfection. *** Most entrees automatically come with their house salad and bread. The bread is homemade with a crunchy crust and soft insides. AND IT'S WARM! Their house dressing is a berry balsamic and it was also delicious! Their tiramisu was sprinkled with chocolate powder that really intensified that coffee taste- so good! Our server Taylor was lovely and spaced out the courses so we didn't feel rushed.
