My husband and I arrived a bit early- parking is really tough on a Friday night in downtown Galena but we scored a spot a block away quickly. So, we headed to the bar to enjoy a pre-dinner drink. $10 Pinot Grigio and Petosi $6.00 on tap- I enjoyed the piano player for a bit! Very talented! Once our party all arrived, we will seated in one of the dining rooms. We started with sharing saganaki, because this is what you do here. Most everyone ordered the filet, but I wanted the salmon and husband had the Greek chicken. The entrees come with a starch and soup or salad so we chose the cream of broccoli and a baked potato. Never been here before even though we've been to Galena many times. Always open for a first time. I called earlier in the day to make a dinner reservation, but no answer, but an answering machine. I left a message with a call back number asking about a reservation. Didn't get a callback, so we were a little concerned walking in at 5:30 on a Thursday evening. First thing we were asked after walking in was do you have a reservation? I explained what I wrote above and he says I think we have a table, no waiting. We usually prefer a booth, there was an empty booth next to our table, so I asked if it was available, was told that had a reservation. We settled into our table, ordered drinks and an appetizer. Then a staff member came over and offered the booth as the reservation was running late. We stayed put, placed our dinner order and relaxed. My partner ordered the small prime rib, I opted for the Greek style Cod. We both chose baked potatos. Our appetizer Greek feta with kalamata olives and tomatoes was very good. We opted out on the salads that came with our meals, but as the restaurant rotated customers we heard several offers for lentil soup instead, sadly not to us. Our meals came, great job with timing the different meals looking great. The medium-rare prime rib was great on top, but the bottom had a 1/8" deep sear that was a surprise. My Greek cod woke me up to a new version of the meal. Very Good and worth coming back for! The room was twice greeted with the exciting display of flaming saganaki, if you've never seen or had it, it's a great display and everyone nearby gets to feel the heat. The small prime rib was larger than any we've had elsewhere, but should have been more carefully cooked as the restaurant was not at capacity. Overall a nice restaurant, you have to love Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin music. Our server was very good, but missed offering the soup. Ah, a night in Galena, and our anniversary to boot! Where else to go but The Log Cabin? We were looking for the best steakhouse, and YELP did it again! Great reviews! We got a resevation a week before, and it was a good thing. This place books up quickly, so if you want to get a seat, CALL FIRST! We arrived several minutes early out of respect to assure if they had an opening, we could be seated. Our seating was perfectly aligned with our reservation. We had a nice seat in a long room, with typical western regalia on the walls and ceilings. I should note the servers who were on the tall side were experts at tipping their heads to avoid the lighting. We started with an order of Flaming Saganaki (the sign does say GREEK Steak House) which arrived at the table sizzling, and created quite a large flame when it was lit up with a hearty OOOPA from the servers. It tasted as good as saganaki usually does of course. The salads came out, and were quite good. You have your choice of dressings, which were more than enough to cover the salad. I failed to mention the bread and butter, which while not pictured, were very good. The entrees came out - my wife had ordered the 20 ounce Prime Rib, and it was beautiful. I honestly had second thoughts about my Filet order her Prime Rib was so spectacular, and fortunately for me, she took pity on my eyes and gave me a few chunks to enjoy. The Filet Mignon was perfect. We came here for to celebrate my dad's birthday and it turned out to be a wonderful evening. The service was very attentive and friendly and the atmosphere was very dark and intimate. We ordered the saganaki to start, which was flambéed table side and it was fresh and delicious. We shared the porterhouse and the lamb chops (which were loins, not ribs) and there was an extra $8 charge on shared plates. The porterhouse was very tasty and cooked to perfection. The filet portion was my favorite part. The lamb loin chops were very thick and came with 4 large pieces. This is my second time rating Log Cabin. There is reason they have been around forever and they are always packed. I recommend you walk in for a reservation. From the moment you walk in, you feel like you are back in time. The ambience is a bit rustic. The wait staff is always on point. The pomegranate martini though is on the dainty side, but still very good. I highly recommend their Saganaki. Also, the filet mignon and shrimp combination is amazing! We stopped in around 4:15 on a Saturday during Oktoberfest. They weren't taking reservations because of the crowds, though I'm not sure why. The guy I spoke with on the phone was very helpful and explained the best time to come and how to avoid the heaviest foot traffic. I'll start by saying I discovered a new favorite white wine, the St. Christopher Riesling, and I had a few glasses. We started with the saganaki and bread service, which my wife and I agreed was the best saganaki we have ever had. For my entrée, I ordered the special, which was some kind of bone-in sirloin combo. It was very chewy, which was surprising since I ordered it rare. Just an overall sub average experience with that steak. My wife ordered the prime rib, and it was perfectly cooked with great flavor. My wife and I visited The Log Cabin in Galena last week, and it absolutely lived up to its great reputation. The 24 oz ribeyes were fantastic - cooked perfectly to order, juicy, and full of flavor. Every side dish hit the mark too: the hash browns with onions and cheese, baked potato, and fresh salad were all excellent. The thick-cut bacon appetizer was a standout - crispy, meaty, and delicious. Our server was new, and his timing was a little off, but very easy to overlook because everyone has to start somewhere, and the quality of the food more than made up for it. The restaurant itself was very clean, the host and staff looked sharp in uniform, and the atmosphere was lively - everyone around us seemed to be having a great time. My wife and I came to Galena to celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary. For our Saturday night dinner, we decided to go to Log Cabin, hoping to celebrate the occasion properly. When I called to make our reservation, I let the staff know we were coming in for our 10-year anniversary. When we arrived, I also mentioned it to the host (the bald gentleman with glasses). He responded with, "Well, your wife is right behind you--there goes the surprise," as if she wouldn't know it was our anniversary. At no point during the evening did anyone acknowledge our celebration or even say "Happy anniversary." I even asked our waiter, Pat M., whether anyone had told him we were celebrating anything. He said no--that no one had informed him we were there for our anniversary. We didn't come expecting free food, dessert, or anything special. But not acknowledging our anniversary at all--especially after we mentioned it twice--was frustrating. Every other place we've celebrated at has at least offered a simple "Happy anniversary," if not a dessert, flowers on the table, or a personalized menu. We tried to dine the night before without a reservation but they weren't able to accommodate us, so we made a reservation for the next day--our actual anniversary. The ambiance is very dark and felt a bit cramped, and the noise level was higher than expected due to a nearby couple talking loudly to another table. The menu leaned heavily on potato-based sides, which limited variety. We ordered the broccolini as a substitute, but it was overly spicy and unfortunately inedible. A must-visit if you find yourself in the greater Galena area. Although the menu is somewhat limited, the perfection of each dish is second-to-none. Both the appetizers (sautéed mushrooms and saganaki) were outstanding. Our steaks were some of the best we have ever had (prime rib and filet mignon). We had a nice dinner here. When we called for a reservation about 2 weeks ahead of our visit, we were given 5pm or 8pm for reservation times. We took the later time and stopped in around 7:30 and they seated us right away. We found this location to be like some of the supper clubs we had visited in Wisconsin. They offer a big meal, entree with salad and potatoes, bringing hot bread and a garnish plate (carrots, celery and dip). It's a low lit establishment and generally quieter unless you have some people next to you who had many beverages before arriving (my situation). I had a filet with greek potatoes and a salad and hubby had a bone in ribeye with steak fries and salad. It was lots of food and so good! We had to purposefully slow down when we were eating to be sure to savor every bite. We were up for dessert, but they had no flourless chocolate cake which is my jam after a meal like this. It was probably good that we passed on it anyway as I felt like I had to roll out of there after eating so much! As far as parking goes for this place, it's kind of hit or miss. The street parking is hard to find. On the street behind the restaurant is a lot where you pay $10 CASH and then the restaurant will deduct $10 from your check. My friend and I disagreed on this place as far as food went. I enjoyed mine while she felt hers was salty. Meat was cooked well and to my liking. I tasted the skewer and the outside seasoning was a little salty but fine for me. Since my friend didn't care for her meal they comped it even though she ate it and said it wasn't necessary. They started with a veggie platter and bread. You sit in a log like atmosphere with wagon wheels. If someone orders the sagonaki you will hear Opa! When they light it up. This place was a recommendation from my fiancés nephew. The only thing that prevented me from giving this place a 5 was the service. The doorman was a bit rude and snippy when we asked when our table would be ready. And our waitress although nice didn't really check in with us when we received our food but only towards the end.
