We visited during Oktoberfest weekend, so we made a reservation just to be safe. I'm not sure if that's normally necessary, but I didn't want to risk it. The morning of, we noticed the weather was perfect and asked to move our reservation outside and they happily accommodated us with no problem. They started us off with chips and pico de gallo. I asked for extra salsa roja and salsa verde. The pico had a nice kick, the roja had a smoky flavor, and the verde was more on the roasted side. Unfortunately, I wasn't a big fan of the verde, which was a bummer since it's usually my favorite. The chunky guac, though, was a solid 10/10. The margarita flights were 30% off, so that was an easy choice. Tons of flavor options to pick from, which was fun. For my main, I went with the Suizo burrito topped with melted Chihuahua cheese. I didn't love it -- maybe I'm spoiled living in the Quad Cities where we've got incredible Mexican spots on every corner. Something about it just felt a little off. To top it off, we were constantly swatting away flies at our table, which didn't help. Still, the service was great and our server was super friendly and attentive. Food was just bland, bland, bland. The plates came out literally about five minutes after ordering on a busy Saturday night; this is not auspicious for quality or freshness. Shrimp fajitas consisted of an almost comically enormous pile of peppers and onions and ten decent-sized shrimp, but only three tortillas. It was all nearly flavorless. I tried the steak tacos which were also lackluster. My son's plain quesadilla did not disappoint, but with only two ingredients it's difficult to mess that up. I have no complaints about service: everyone was hustling cheerfully on a hot and busy August evening. But next time we'll try one of the other Mexican joints. read more

We had reservations for a party of 10 celebrating a bachelorette party (on a Saturday night during tourist season). The restaurant was busy. Reservations were easy to make. Service was fast and efficient. Joe, our server, was on top of our order and attentive to everyone's needs. Every order came out correctly and tasted amazing. Looking for dinner on a Monday night in Galena and a number of places were closed since it was Monday. Hungry for Mexican this place had some of the better ratings of the Mexican joints in town. Most got pretty poor marks. It was early and empty. We got a table and quickly made our choices. First impression was that the prices were very high for typical fare like the three enchiladas that I ordered. Yes this is a tourist town but wow! They did give us a small bowl of chips and pico de Gallo. While the food was good I did not like that you could not mix and match the enchiladas fillings. Ridiculous since at most Mexican restaurants this is not an issue. Not here. With a Yelp check-in you do get a 10% discount which did help. read more

Went here because of good reviews and it was packed when we drove by... great deal on the margarita tower, ok it was cheap mix with cheap tequila but for $20 you know what to expect. Ordered the queso based on pictures and description of white queso... hello orange tasteless mess. They give you pico and chips not salsa... followed up almost tasteless chorizo and shrimp tacos thank god for lime, salt and pepper and an actual DELICIOUS verde. Stopped for dinner while staying in Galena this weekend and really enjoyed the stop. The chips and fresh salsa were very good My wife and I shared a Family Margarita Flight (see picture), which was a great value compared to the much smaller version for 2/3rds the cost. All flavors were delicious (Jalapeno, Pineapple, Watermelon & Mango) - and the Taijin on the rim made them even better! For our meal, we shared an order of Fajitas (see pictures) and not only was it very good, but it was plenty of food for both of us. It was a bit pricey, but if you are selective in your choices it is manageable - and it all tastes great! If you like Mexican food, you'll want to stop here during your stay. Bistec a La Mexicano was excellent with the right amount of heat. Taco Tuesday was a nice surprise ($3/taco) but the filling choices were limited and just so-so. The shredded chicken taco was rather dry. Cheap does not equal good so definitely would not do that again. Beans and rice sides were tasty. Complimentary chips and pico were good but the additional red sauce was too smoky which hurt the overall flavor. Draft beer tasted like draft beer, so that was a relief. Service and staff are excellent. Prices were a fair value for a resort town. I plan to return and try some of the other family recipes. We have been to Campeche before and it was so good that we came back today for Mother's Day. Started with the queso fundido because we had it the last time we were here and it was delicious. Today it tasted very salty to the point where we couldn't eat it. We sent it back and the chef actually came to our table and argued with us about it being too salty. He finished, saying there's no way it's salty and then he walked away and went back to the kitchen. We had ordered our entrees so we waited for those to come out. The entrees were great as usual and we enjoyed. Unfortunately the experience with the chef has spoiled the restaurant for us. I don't think we'll be back. It's unthinkable that a chef anywhere would actually argue with a guest about something the guest didn't like. The 2 star rating is all down to the rude chef. read more

Tried this place again after several years of bypassing. I had guacamole tacos, beans and rice. The rice was just rice with food coloring. The beans (frijoles) were very good, they must have changed their recipe for the better! The guacamole tacos were also very good. My wife had tacos Al pastor and thought they tasted weird, a strange flavor emanating from the pork. Her marg was just ok. I had a blue moon, can't go wrong there. The floor plan was redone since we were on here last. There is now an upstairs. The chips were a bit stale, but the salsa Fresca was good, fresh. Very efficient service from our waitress. read more

I went with a lot of expectations. I made reservations to take my family of 9 and the food was no way close to what the reviews stated! For the price they charge- the quality was no way close. For the chunky guacamole, they charge $12 and also add a $1 for extra jalapeño on the side. The beef taco was completely mushed meat which was tasteless. One of my guest- just took a bite and left it untouched. The salsa they served with chips was flavorless as well. It even lacked salt. When we asked for spicy sauce- they gave us something which looked like ketchup and hot sauce mixed. The rice and beans was standard. I have nothing to rave about in every meal we ate. I didn't even take pictures of many things we ordered. I am only giving two stars for the service they provided. Despite having a huge crowd of table near us- our server was attentive and always came to see if we were okay. I won't go back again. I think I can get better Mexican at a fast food chain. read more

After a long day of shopping & a winery tour this gals weekend crew needed some Mexican food! It was an incredibly hot and muggy day, their inside AC couldn't keep up so we sat outside. Our experiences with outside dining in Galena as a whole = flies. So be ware and ready for constant swatting. But... despite being busy our waitress was so good- attentive and funny poor thing was so hot but such a trooper! Now the food. Wow. This hot the spot. Kick off with queso- something I don't pass up on a menu (I could live off it) they served it with double fried tortillas but those were a little too much fried for me. So I used the table chips. Next up I decided on a quesadilla- they let you add shrimp and mushrooms which is what I do at home - I've never seen this option at a restaurant. Cooked to perfection the outside was crispy (and didn't even get soggy on the plate OR with the weather!!). Served with sour cream and guac! Oh yum!! My companions shared fajitas with shrimp and steak. The plate was huge and they were glad they shared! Must be a thing because an extra plate of the sides to put the fajita's is something you can order separate. (Beans/rice/lettuce) We didn't stick around for dessert as the flies kept increasing. Now, with Eric Lopez at the helm, there are even more reasons to enjoy... for example, CARNITAS is now available across the menu. My wife and I were in town to celebrate her 40th. We arrived around lunch time and were promptly seated by the host. Our server, Joe, greeted us within 2-3 minutes. He was very polite as well. My wife ordered the chicken chimichanga and I ordered a combination of chicken and shrimp enchiladas. We also ordered the Mexican guacamole. Within 10 minutes we were served our food and it tasted awesome! I recommend the shrimp enchiladas over the chicken and my wife's chimichanga was cooked just right. The guacamole was above average. I've been here a few times on my annual galena trips with my bike team. Saturday, we had a party of 40 come in and they had everything set up for us. They had enough staff to attend to everyone and get food and drinks out quickly. I'm a big fan of their margaritas! The pitchers are huge! They don't have a syrupy/artificial flavor like some places do. Every meal I've had has been delicious. If anyone still had food on their plate it was because they literally couldn't shovel anymore in! Highly recommend this place if you are in Galena. They have a gentleman playing the piano and singing too. He's always smiling and will play songs you request. read more

Would recommend. Came with our young son toward the end of a Very Hot Day. Showed up about 45 minutes early for our reservation and were able to get in about ten minutes later, despite the crowd. Being a Mexican restaurant and having no Horchata is a huge disappointment. Also 40 dollars for carne asada is way overpriced and wasn't even tender look like a piece of bistec. Rice look like it was just the end of the pot smooshed. The margarita was very sour tastes like an old lime. It's a no for me. read more
