Checked out this funny and quirky restaurant in Galena. Durty Gurt's is a long time local favorite with drinks and food that's better than it looks. It may be kind of dumpy inside but the place is also full of crazy personality. A lot of the basics along with a few fancier items. The prices are pretty okay for the portions and quality. Basically if you're a group it will probably be waiting for a table so go early. It's one of the popular places to go around here. The last time coming here we got seats at the bar and there wasn't any waiting. Has a lot of cool memorabilia to look at. There's a bunch of funny signs on the walls. It's about $7 for a basic cocktail. The Fuzzy Navel is one of the classics you can get. It's about $13 for a burger and fries. They have a veggie burger that can substitute. We each got one of these. I got it with the toppings of the Basic Burger. These come with the usual toppings like lettuce, mayonnaise which I left off, onions, pickles, and tomatoes. She got it with the toppings of the Olive Burger. These come with cheddar, lettuce, mayonnaise, olives, onions, Swiss, and tomatoes. For sure it gets busy. It's located on Main at Franklin. Located in downtown Galena,this is a casual restaurant offering a good selection of appetizers,salads,burgers and melts. They had nice gluten free options as well. Even tho they are known for their burgers,we decided on the gluten free cheezy beef and the breaded grouper platter. My wife loved the beef sandwich. The grouper was flaky and not oily at all. Durty Gurt's is located in the heart of a touristy area, which usually means shitty over-priced food. Not here! Our food was great and the service was excellent! Price was reasonable too. Our waitress was fun and a really hard worker. (Extra credit for calling me "Honey" a few times!) The restaurant is also a lot of fun. Full of funny pictures and quotes. After we finished eating we actually walked around the restaurant just to read the walls. Totally happy with our experience and meal. read more

I never really believe reviewers when they write 'This was the best hamburger I've ever had.' It always sounds like exaggeration. I now find myself, in all seriousness, saying "That was the best hamburger I've ever had." No exaggeration! I got the Tombstone burger. I guess it is called the Tombstone burger because of all of the unhealthy but oh so delicious toppings. Two slices of cheese, bacon, grilled onions and 2 fried onion rings. The bun was soft and lightly toasted. My husband got the Sloppy Joe. One of his most favorite sandwiches which is seldom offered at restaurants. He like it. The seasoned fries that we both got were terrific. Service was fast and friendly. It is a fun place to visit because you can read all of the signs with funny sayings on them. Prices were fair. My only complaint is their positioning of 3 toilets at the entrance lobby. There was some funny saying on the wall above them but I don't remember what it was. The thing is that as I'm entering a restaurant I don't want to be greeted by toilets and then have pictures flash in my mind about what goes on in toilets. Gross. Delicious burgers, yummy milkshakes and fun decor. Had drinks and apps one night and went back the next day for burgers. We ordered the cheese and bacon fries and the pickle chips. The next day I ordered the mushroom and Swiss burger but I swapped the beef patty for a chicken filet. It was delicious! However, what stood out most is that they know how to keep service brisk and efficient--but still super-friendly--during the weekend lunch rush. The Tombstone burger is a decadent treat: cheddar, pepper jack, bacon, grilled onions, and barbecue sauce; topped with two bonus onion rings to boot (get it??). The sweet potato fries are waffle cut, which is not noted on the menu. Kids menu: burger, corn dogs, mac & cheese, chicken tenders. Eclectic restaurant decor in a tiny touristy town. It's kind of fun. We had a couple of different people stop by our table to check on us, so the staff was fast and friendly. For an appetizer, we had the Mac and cheese bites. They were not the same size or shape, which to me usually means they were homemade. They were good, and they brought out ran stressing to dip them in. My brother got the shut the front door burger with regular fries. He has had it before. And that's all he ever orders when he comes here, so he loves it. It doesn't come with any sauce on it, so I think it was a little dry. So, if you order one, get some ranch dressing to put on it, or dip it in. He had water. I had the Santa Fe, burger with spiced fries, and I usually get thousand island dressing for my fries. It was a good burger, and I wish they were closer to where I lived. I had fountain root beer which was somewhat disappointing if you know the atmosphere in Galena. I know this place (and this whole town) is a tourist destination, but goodness help me, I do like Durty Gurt's. The food is good and there is plenty of variety in the menu. They have regular and boozy shakes. The service is quick and the place is bright and clean. But the biggest differentiator is that there is a little more sass and attitude here compared to many of the other stores/restaurant down Main street. A little late on my review, but cannot miss the opportunity to provide my feedback. What a fun place to dine! The facility is clean and relatively spacious. The service is wonderful. The food is outstanding! Our party of 4 enjoyed a couple of sandwiches. The "Shut the Front Door" which was interesting, but incredibly delicious as it was served on two glazed donuts instead of the normal hamburger bun. The others had the "Woo! Wap! The Bam!" burger. Located on the Main St in Galena, is a good spot with a wide variety of selections. We were able to be seated immediately at the last available table. Our server was attentive and very accommodating. I had the the sloppy joe sandwich. The sandwich was reminiscent of sloppy joe's from my childhood. It was served with coleslaw and sweet potato waffle fries. The sloppy joe was topped with a sauce , that was so good. The waffle fries were not too crispy and perfect. My husband had one of their burgers topped with onion rings. Durty Gurt's is a restaurant seemingly geared for either tourists or a strong personality to enjoy. There's a lot of wood decor, neon lighting, and an overall darkened atmosphere; not crazy dark but it's easy to forget what time of day it is if you're not near a window. Service was friendly. Some reviewers cite the lack of being asked how they want their burger cooked as a reason for a low star review. I do agree that servers should ask the question. Fortunately, our server asked first and we received a delicious burger with mushrooms to enjoy. The mac & cheese was very good because it wasn't drowning in cheese the way many instant brands look. While in Galena earlier this week, we stopped for lunch before our golf round. Can't say I would recommend the place for burgers. I got the Hawaii Five-O Burger and my hubby got the Inferno burger. He liked his and thought the hot pepper sauce on it was quite hot. I tried it and I tend to agree. I like spicy, but I could not have eaten his burger. My burger was way overcooked. The waitress never asked how I wanted it cooked - and that should have been my indicator. It was well-well done and pretty much lacked flavor. This is such a fun and great spot for a burger. The decorations are definitely on the unique side and I am allllll about it! Toilet seats everywhere and normally I'd be weirded out but this was actually really fun. We had Tara as our server and she was awesome. She's very friendly, gave recommendations that we took and loved, provided fast service even with a full house. It was super busy and with great reason! Everything was phenomenal. Review Visit: September 24th, 2021 Stop in at Durty Gurt's for a durty good time. A group of us found ourselves up in Galena for a weekend of fun and celebrating a friend that is getting married soon. We arrived in the early evening and after checking in to our hotel, needed to fill our bellies with some local food. While wandering around what I assume was the downtown area, we stumbled upon the only quiet place to eat. Just what we were looking for! Durty Gurt's has a very distinct diner vibe to it that can be summed up in one word. Sassy. This isn't the kind of place that insults you or gives you attitude. This place just has a lot of sassy and sarcastic stuff hanging all over the walls. Since it was a quiet Friday night, we had half the place to our self. Most of the other guests were located in the back half of the dining area, which was split off from our area by a wall and possibly a step down (it was a long and crazy weekend, so some details are fuzzy). Our waitress was very attentive and amazing. Once we found out we were there for a bachelorette party, she got extra fun and chatty with us, which made the experience even more fun. Their claim-to-fame is having 'the best burger in Galena', so I took that as a challenge and ordered the Santa Fe Burger with sweet potato fries. My secret for sweet potato fries is to dip them in honey mustard, which thankfully they had on-hand when I asked. Another friend ordered The Inferno, which, as a fellow hot food lover, I was interested in hearing how it tasted and how much it burned. We enjoyed our beers and liquor until our food came out, which wasn't too long considering how quiet it was inside. All of our food was delicious but after not eating since around noon and being on a few hours of sleep, I started chomping away instantly. During my time in Galena, this was the only place I got a burger but I can say Durty Gurt's deserves the title of best burger in Galena. This thing was a whopper of tasty and delicious. Also, this may be the first time I had avocado on a burger and was leery on how it would turn out but I am glad I didn't ask for it to be excluded. The sweet potato fries dipped in honey mustard was icing on the proverbial cake. Delicious meal all around. Oh, my friend said The Inferno was like 'licking satan's balls' or something along those lines. He wanted to get some of the Inferno sauce to go, he liked the burn that much. Started with a boozy butterscotch shake and the root beer float both were rich and heavy. The Rueben with cheese is excellent with just enough sauerkraut. As it was Good Friday I decided to step into the grouper. This came out as an especially large filet. Size aside, I should have stuck with my chief tenet on saltwater fish...only eat it near a seaboardering state. Hunger aside, I could only muster half of the filet before giving up.
