If you've ever been to Hush Cuban Cafe, then you already know the level of food we're dealing with. So when I heard they opened Frida Taqueria & Cantina in Clayton, I had to check it out...and it absolutely delivered. First thing you'll notice is this isn't your typical Mexican restaurant. The menu is fresh, creative, and just a little different in a really good way. I started with the chips and salsa, and right away you can tell they're doing things differently. The chips are thicker, super crispy, and they come with a fresh salsa verde instead of the usual red. Paired that with a Coke Zero and I was already off to a strong start. Tried the Mexican hush puppies (which I've never had before), and honestly... you need to order these. Crispy on the outside, soft inside, and that sauce they come with takes them to another level. The flautas were one of the most flavorful dishes I had... crispy, well seasoned, and just packed with flavor. The barbacoa tacos come four to an order, loaded with meat, and served on double tortillas with all the right toppings. Very filling and very well done. But the standout for me was the cheesy shell carnitas tacos (Gringa tacos). The tortilla is cooked with cheese, so you get this crispy, cheesy outer layer with super tender carnitas inside. Easily my favorite bite of the day. I also tried the steak quesadilla (ribeye), and it was exactly what you want... perfectly cooked, packed with flavor, and loaded with that melty cheese (tastes like Oaxaca or Chihuahua style). Really solid. Service was excellent... shoutout to Gabriel. He walked me through the menu, made great recommendations, and genuinely made the experience better. The space itself is clean, modern, and spacious, with a bar area and outdoor patio seating available. Only thing to note is parking can be a little tight up front, especially when it's busy, but there's additional parking around the building if you look for it. Overall, this is a great addition to Clayton and definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. read more

Stopped for lunch I had the combo fajitas and my wife had the polo adobado she said hers was ok but the rice and beans were tepid, same for mine, the fajitas were over cooked except for the shrimp which was ok. It wasn't bad but certainly not up to expectations based on the reviews. read more

Fantastic food. Second time last night. First time we did the tacos and enjoyed being able to try a lot at once. Last night we went with single entrees. Husband had the chicken and I had the tingas enchiladas. The food is so good but then the green, tomatillo salad, is even better. It is bad news for my entree as I love that salsa so much. I'm not a full up on chips and salsa girl either. Looking forward to summer when they get that food truck going. read more

The birria tacos were so good. The salsa they serve is green, a little bit different from your typical Mexican restaurant. The sangria carafe is $23, a great deal for 6 glasses. Atmosphere isn't my favorite but maybe sitting at the bar would have been better. read more

This was my first visit to this restaurant and I was very impressed by both the quality of the food and the service. They serve salsa Verde with their chips instead of salsa Roja, which is a plus in my opinion. They offer enchiladas Roja and I asked if they could substitute the salsa Verde for the salsa Roja and they agreed. They also serve black beans instead of pinto beans as the side which is also a nice change of pace. The enchilada Verde with refried black beans was one of the best versions of that dish I have ever had. The waiter was congenial, professional and very accommodating. From the moment I walked until I left in I was one happy customer! Friendly greeting, immediately sat at requested area (bar). They're skinny margarita was off the charts. I have not tasted anything that good in my town. We tried this restaurant during our recent visit to Clayton. Some locals told us it was the best Mexican in town. When you walk in you're greeted with an authentic Mexican vibe. The food was excellent. I had a quesadilla; my husband had fajitas. This would have been a solid five-star review if our server had been attentive. We used to live in Atlanta and had access to some very good Mexican restaurants but Fridas in Clayton, Ga might be one of the best I have ever been to. The food was excellent. We had the Chicken Tinga Tacos: Spicy shredded chicken covered in micro greens and crema. They were delicious. The service was also excellent. We will make this our Mexican place to go. read more

We went to Frida's yesterday for the first time. First of all the food was delicious! If I was rating just the food it would have been 5 stars. However, the service was awful. The restaurant wasn't busy. Only five other tables were filled. It took 10 minutes for the waiter to take our drink order. Another wait for him to ask us about our food. The food was delivered quickly and as I said was delicious! The waiter didn't check on us once during the meal or ask if we wanted additional drinks. This was a missed opportunity as we both wanted another cocktail. Finally, we had to ask another server to find our waiter in order to get the check. Overall the experience was disappointing. We will give it a second chance, but if the service isn't good, we won't be going back. read more

Gouging. Fajitas come with 3 tortillas (corn). Nowhere near enough for the meal and they are miniature in size. Additional side order includes 4 mini tortillas for $4 which are worth about 40 cents. This place is AMAZING! We have been in the area full time since March, and have been very disappointed eating out. Last night we went to Frida and holy moly it's now our favorite place to eat. The one star had nothing to do with food, so not sure about that yet. The problem is we showed up and got on the waitlist and an hour and twenty minutes later we were told the kitchen was closed. After more stories from the host than a library would have we were told the kitchen was closed. Here is the problem, when you have been in the restaurant business as long as we have been, it's hard to give us a story, honesty is the best option. The kitchen was in the weeds and we cannot handle the situation. Instead we got told 10 minutes, 10 minutes, then as we left he told us "come back we will take care of you" I had to chuckle. We wish them the best but before you claim to have the best Mexican food in Clayton you might want to get the service down first. I am sure we will give it one more shot and hopefully the host has learned to keep his storytelling at home. read more
