Keeping with the tradition of awful food in Helen, La Cabana really shines as a beacon of sub-mediocre fare. Had a Mexican friend recommend this place because it tastes just like his Mama's cooking. The takeaway was that my friend's mom apparently can't cook. BLAND food. Unmelted cheese in my enchiladas, woefully bad Bloody Mary, fresh produce nowhere in sight, bad guac, barely seasoned ground beef and steak....just bad food. Can't recommend. This place was okay. The interior was lack luster and the food seriously needed more spice/overall taste. Although service was okay, the food took longer than usual to come out to our table. Insulting Mexican food. Canned chicken. Velvita cheese on everything. They are pushing the liquor. I seriously want my money back. Rice was dry and salty. Slasa is like marinara sauce. Ordered garlic shrimp and it came with maybe 1 clove. This cook thinks people are afrid of flavor. Not the worst I've ever paid for but close. If you're going to use canned chicken, at least try to season it. Sour cream and grocery store guac can only cover so much. One should never EVER use velvita to make a quesadilla. It's not that hard to grate real cheese. Fake ass Mexican food by even taco bell standards. If all you want is a tequila and the veiw, stick with the chips. read more

Went here for a quick lunch, sat outside because the weather was perfect. But sitting outside made the service slower. I ordered the #25 combo: a beef burrito, a beef enchilada, rice and beans. The food came out fast. But it wasnt great either. The beef inside the burrito and enchilada was very bland, no seasoning at all. The rice was alright but the beans have an after taste, like a freezer smell kind after taste. But I was not surprised. Probably not coming back here. read more

Went with my family of 7 and we gar a great experience. We were greeted warmly by the waitress and owner. The owner even served some of our drinks and offered us cafe con leche before we left for the night. The food really was amazing and portions were large. We will definitely return! read more

I'm sure this place can get overrun on Saturdays during October, but we went on Sunday to Octoberfest and stopped here for a bite. It was a beautiful day and no one sat inside. We sat outside and watched the traffic and people. The chunky guacamole is delicious and the margarita's are as good as they get. The food was served hot and fresh. The tamale was fresh but could have used a little more spice, but the shrimp dish was amazing. I don't remember what it was called, but something like a garlic shrimp. The garlic was not over powering and it was seasoned just right. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It was hard to tell who was our waiter, because they all pitched in to make this our go to place for Mexican in Helen. read more

I wish they had a restaurant in the Atlanta area because we enjoyed the food and good customer service. My husband and I ate here and enjoyed the food and our experience. We ate outside on the patio to be able to enjoy the outdoor view of all the attractions and atmosphere on Main street. I had the Beef Steak Chimichunga and my husband had a Grilled Shrimp Burrito. We both really enjoyed our food. This says a lot for us because we both are very particular and snobby about food having to be good and full of flavor. My Chimichunga was perfectly fried on the outside to have a nice crisp to it and the cheese poured over it along with the gaucamole, sour cream, and lettuce was perfect. The beef steak inside of it was just right as well and flavorful. My Chimichunga came with a side of beans which I thought were tasty and had a mild spicy kick to it. The service was excellent and prompt. The prices were great as well. In total we paid $21.29 for both of our meals together. My meal was around $7 after tax and my husband's was around $14 after tax . My husband's meal was The owner and staff were very friendly and polite, which we appreciated a lot. They truly do value their customers and want to make sure that they are enjoying their food and experience there. We definitely will be returning there the next time we visit Helen. read more
