Medora, North Dakota…read more September 2026 Very unexpected greeting. I was inside the restaurant waiting for my husband to park and was told that I could not stay in the restaurant. I had to wait outside until my husband arrived. I later find out it was due to a senator and his entourage of security coming in to eat. I did sit down and looked at the menu. Asked the waiter if the chicken was fried fresh. He said no. I asked if there was another item on the menu that was fresh. He said no. I asked again if there was anything on the menu that was freshly made in the kitchen. He informed me that everything was prepared elsewhere, frozen, and brought in. I decided to leave the restaurant. I would not eat in a restaurant that everything was prepared and thawed out to eat. And the menu prices were extremely high for already prepared food. Such a cute town and nice idea for a restaurant. However, why would you not make your own food?

Recommend beginning at TR's Tavern, a small lounge next to the dining room. It's old fashioned is a generous pour and expertly crafted. Plus the bartenders are just up front and friendly folks. So much to like about the dining room. On consecutive nights we had great meals and wonderful service, particularly from Alex! It's not over crowded and has a real rhythm to its service, although you never feel rushed. Impressive wine list that we chose from both nights. We also like the substantial side Ceasars you could add to the entrees. The bread service was very good too. Heartily recommend the duck quarters or the lamb rack, both with superb cheese grits and grilled asparagus. The favors just knock you for a loop! The blackened salmon is also an excellent choice, with the really well prepared roasted red potatoes. So creamy. The dinner salad with beef tips is almost overwhelming--skip lunch that day. The sticky toffee desert is surprisingly good-well baked, sweet but not too much. You really miss a taste of western North Dakota if you skip this place.

Then we had the blueberry flatbread. The waiter recommended adding prosciutto and it was a great suggestion. And they had the cutest Halloween decorations which is always a hit with me.
