The service I received felt more like a production line than actual service. They wanted to get us in and out - No real care to measuring, fit, or options offered. Especially the gentleman there who, I thought might relate better to a young boy going to an important school event. He looked bothered the whole time and I ended up asking a differentemployee for guidance even though she was multi-tasking. Lucked out in scheduling a same day appointment on a Saturday for 1330 hours. While there is a parking structure directly across from the storefront - first 30 mins $1, $9 daily max - we were lucky to find street side metered parking for about $1.80 per hour across the cross walk. Check in was relatively straightforward with a sign posted upon entry and a QR code. We were quickly acknowledged upon arrival, and upon appointment time, greeted formally by Octavio. The display suits were clutter free and easy to understand, labeled with rental vs purchase prices and paired with ties / pocket squares to afford shoppers a potential vision for the ensemble. The entire process with Octavio was hassle free, precise, and lightning quick - out in under an hours time. In addition to being incredibly knowledgeable, Octavio provided great solutions to challenges pertaining to my in-between sizing as they presented. The process of trying on the pieces and then reassessing them with the alterations was seamless - absolutely pun intended. Bait and switch masters. I called and spoke to their rep and gave her my situation as I needed something by Saturday, she said it's possible. Then gave me prices and I headed down there. Once I get there the rep inside says on rush orders they don't honor discounts and it will cost way more. Something that should have been said before I spent my time to go in there. They would not honor the price saying they have done a switch to their telephone lines and that was someone from corporate. Dude you're the same business. I went in to buy a tux (not rent). When you first walk in, they insist you scan a barcode with your phone and give them your mobile number and email - before they'll talk to you and help. Why should the cost to even enter the business be years of spam email and texts? The person helping me was rude. Before we started, he demanded that I give him my phone and email (again). I told him I didn't want to but he claimed he had to have it to enter me into their system. I insisted he use a bogus one which he initially refused, lying to me that "they don't use it for marketing". No? They why have it at all? He finally took it. Then, during the fitting, I was forced to wait multiple times while he helped other customers. Why even have a check-in system then? I finally left without buying anything. Not only a waste of time, but a lousy experience too. I wound up spending over a grand at another men's shop the same day. If you have to use this business, it should only be as a last-ditch choice. read more

Lovely selection - I've been here twice (for both my boys' proms) and (most) of their staff is excellent. My younger son has a pretty unique style and did not want to do the standard black tux, but Friar Tux had a lot of stylish options and he was able to get just what he wanted. The saleslady that helped him was very patient and supportive - the best! Mixed feelings about our experience with Friar Tux for our wedding last month. I'll open by saying day of my Groom and wedding party's suits all looked amazing, but getting to that point was a struggle. First, even though our wedding party all submitted their measurements in advance, we had two members whose suits didn't fit when we came in two days before the wedding - their pants had to be overnighted to our Wedding venue. A third member of our party just didn't have any pants (they had been left off the order?) Again, we had to overnight them to our wedding venue. Everything was resolved...just additional stress. The worst experience we had though was on the fitting day. One of my bridal attendants is trans masc (masculine presenting,) and was going to be wearing a suit. They had a fantastic experience going to shop to be measured, and the employee who took their measurements was friendly and completely welcoming. However when we returned to the shop for the fitting the attendant helping was very insensitive. First, the suit was way too tight in the thighs (which again, I am not sure how this happens when someone is measured a month before the wedding but okay, bodies shift) However, when we asked about how to make it fit better the attendant told us that we shouldn't expect it to fit right "because men don't have asses and thighs." The conversation continued with a lot of similar comments, while the attendant pointed out all the places the suit wasn't going to fit right on my friend's body. At one point it was said to me (the bride) that it was strange my bridal attendant was wearing a man's suit and that usually "the bridesmaids just wear dresses, but if it had to be a man's suit it just wasn't going to fit the same way on a woman's body" When my attendant brought up that none of these points had been mentioned during the measurement the employee dismissively mentioned that they must have been measured by a man who have "no idea how suits are supposed to fit on a woman." My friend and I were completely flummoxed by all this. In LA I find it hard to imagine we were the first bridal party to have people of different gender presentations and bodies wearing suits. In addition even removing the insensitive remarks re: gender presentation, I think it's poor ettiquette for anyone working in a suit shop to make comments about how bad a suit is going to look on someone because of their body. In the end, I think the employee figured out what was going on: She ended up giving us a larger vest free of charge, and we ordered a larger pant to be overnighted to the venue. Everything again looked amazing day of and my attendant felt amazing in their suit. Since then FT has reached out to me, and my party members to discuss our experience and has assured us they will be having a team wide discussion on gender. I hope this will help the shop move forward towards serving a wider range of clientele as their suits and selections are good. But at the moment would definitely think twice about recommending to my queer friends. read more

They certainly talk the talk. When booking the rentals for my wedding party I spoke with the service person in the store (Linda vista location) and was very clear about wanting a wing tip collar (because we were going with a tuxedo I wanted the look to be correct). The person was very clear about this not being an issue and that the shirts would be form fitting. Once the party started to pick up the shirts they mentioned the collar was more of a "regular" collar. I called, the store told me this is what was offered and we could go with the wing tip but the shirt wouldn't fit well. I ended up going with the collar not of my choosing because the alternative looked like a trash bag draped over a person, didn't fit at all, they were correct about that. This review would be a 1-star but overall the tux's (jacket and pants) looked good. I just wish people would be more clear when selling you a product. read more

The employees at this location are very professional and courteous. Every time I spoke with someone at the front desk, they gave me their full attention and did their best everything in the their power to make sure my needs were met. I would give them 6 stars if I could. However, the management is a different story. You need to be very careful when you're trying to use promotional codes or getting a discount. During my initial visit and fitting, I was told by the employee and she confirmed with the manager that my promotional code was valid and they asked me to come back for my final fitting two weeks before the wedding. When I came back, I was told by the manager that they could not honor my promotional code despite me showing them a receipt with the employee's signature on the exact promotional code I was getting. The manager explained that it was the employee's fault for giving me the wrong information so there was nothing he could do. I'm no business expert but this sounds like a very questionable business practice to me. I would never tell my customers one price when they order and then increase it once they try to check out. I want to re-emphasize that their employees were amazing and Friar's business model is convenient and efficient, but if you ever try to use a promo/discount, I'd advise paying on the spot to lock in the price. This way, I hope you won't be bamboozled. Or you could be like me and avoid the fear of being tricked into paying more by never shopping here again. read more

My fiancé has used friar tux before as a groomsmen for a friend's wedding and had an enjoyable experience online. We have our own wedding coming up so decided to go in store to try out different looks as we couldn't decide what would look good or not. The experience was awful. Honestly felt like the girl who was helping us hated her job (Had high hopes because she had really cute galaxy tights on and thought she'd be cool and more...enthused but instead was curt and even sarcastic in her answers). We told her we didn't know what we were looking for but looking to try on suits. She gave us a pamphlet and showed us quickly around the showroom and said we can pick whatever we wanted and left us to our own devices. I wasn't even the one trying on the clothes but the best way I can describe it is trying on clothes and feeling ugly about it. My fiancé is short and they only had standard sizes to try on. While the person helping us was helpful in getting everything we requested, we didn't feel good about it at all. We ended up leaving more lost than coming in. We recently went to the Northridge location and the experience was a world of difference. The sales person ordered the styles in for my fiancé to try on so we can see what it'll look like properly (we didn't even know this was an option) and he kindly explained some of the different looks and styles we can choose (satin lapels vs not, etc). This place is the worst when it comes to organization. Something needs to done here. Giving customers a heads up of what to expect when they come here. To start I had people come from out of town thinking we would be fitted for our suits and that was not the case. The first appointment was just picking styles. Which can be done online. The style I chose for my groomsman wasn't even on display! It was in their brochure. Fast forward 2 months when we go back to get fitted. They take our measurements. We try on some items. Only to find they order by size anyway. So what's the point of measuring. But the knife to the heart is because we waited so long to order my suite they didn't have the size I needed in stock. So they ordered me some super large oversized jacket. That will cost 3-400 to tailor because they have to take the whole thing apart and customize it. End of rant! P.S. I used FriarTux for my daughter's wedding for a suit rental. They either took measurements wrong or gave my suit to someone else. the pants fit like nickers and no chance of buttoning. The shirt was 2 to 3" short in the arm length. I tried to call the store but could only reach their general customer service agent. They said they would email the store to contact me. They never called. I had to use my own pants that did not match and was unable to take off the jacket because shirt sleeves were too short. What a disaster. Stay away from this business. read more
