Food was delicious. Seasoned very well and good portions for the price. Service was excellent and ready for pickup when I arrived.

Real Southern Cooking appeared to be the tiny self-proprietor choke-and-puke that I love. Well, I tried it today. The Hunny and I have been married for 21 years, and between all of the choices, this is the one where we went for our anniversary. Real Southern Cooking looks more cafe than restaurant. Not fancy at all, just a few tables in a small area. The entire menu fits on two 8.5x11 pieces of paper on the wall. It appeals to those who say "I just want good food at a low price" - um, like me. It felt down home, too. We were surprised to see a Hispanic mama & her son behind the counter; service with a smile. The black man I expected in the back was seated at a table, finishing his lunch, and he was not only informative about the spice on everything, but friendly after witnessing us praying before eating. Some utility workers came in too, "I wish I could order everything!" It appears to be a place with a daily clientele. We both had chicken: the Hunny, chicken spaghetti, me, fried chicken. She liked hers, but found it a little spicy, like the chef included Rotel Tomatoes in the sauce. I had three small pieces, and it reminded me of extra-crunchy skin at places like Krispy Krunchy Chicken. The meat was tender and not too hot. 2 sides are included, and the amount of red beans & rice I got was larger than a mere side. Real Southern Cooking is indeed one of those places that fits the Southern diner stereotype, including the good food at a low price. Not totally Texas, but totally Southern. If you're traveling on I-10, it is located downtown, a few miles off the freeway. A few more items on the menu would take it up to 5-star territory; as you see, many Yelpers have it there now. Enjoy it now, ya hear?

This is one of my Wife and I's top 5 favorite places in Louisiana…read more Their menu as far as apps and main dishes go can fluctuate. More specifically their flatbreads and loaded fries, which I do not currently see on their website. Most of the time they have loaded fries which in the past have consisted of gravies and sauces. One preparation we ordered came with pickled okra. The fried green tomatoes are also very good, especially to start with or share. As far as main dishes go we have tried the following: All Hail Caesar (Flatbread) Spicy Chicken Sandwich Smoke Fried Chicken-N-Biscuits Social Cheeseburger The Mac n Cheese is a must get as a side in my opinion. One of the first times we visited they had carrot cake as a dessert, we still talk about that carrot cake today. If you are a sweet tea lover this place has a twist which I love. Their sweet contains brown sugar and mint, get it, try it, it's delicious.

My steak was cooked perfectly and was tasty tasty tasty. Fries were hand cut and crisp. My wife had the shrimp and grits and, holy cow, that was delicious! The sauce on her grits was to die for! I stepped it up a notch by dipping my bites of steak into her sauce and my mouth was exploding w delight! If you're a bourbon/whiskey drinker, they have more than enough options to choose from. My wife had a smores flavored old fashion, and it was just up her alley. I had a house old fashioned that was just right. We will definitely return.

We didn't have any particular place in mind for lunch knowing that there are a few great options but wanted to try a place where the locals eat so here we are at Ruby's. This town has a lot of history and Ruby's Cafe has been a big part of that history. Parking is pretty easy in this part of the historic downtown district so it was only a matter of crossing the street to get to the entrance, this small cafe was pretty busy but we were able to seat ourselves without a wait although arriving here a little after noon some of the daily plate lunch specials were already sold out- but we managed after our friendly server let us know what was still available. We ordered the pork tasso and sausage with rice and gravy with candied yams and sweet slaw and chicken fried steak with a spicy brown gravy on the side with corn and again an order of candied yams. The food here was amazing, a little like eating at momma's place, this is legit cajun fare and if you haven't had a chance to sample this unique cuisine this would be a great place to start in my opinion. The sweet tea is freshly brewed and the service is outstanding and definitely a place I'll return to when in the area or within a reasonable driving distance - this place is definitely one to bookmark...
