One of my favorite spots in St. john's, this place seems to have changed a bit last time I was here…read moretwo years ago. They got a late night taco menu, an organ in the corner, and a different taste in music lol. I'd say the menu hasn't changed too much, but the plastic wrapped menu made it feel a bit cheaper. The dishes did not taste cheaper though that's for sure. I ordered the Tempeh Sandwich ($17) special which had a delicious BBQ sauce, shredded carrots, hummus mix, sliced tomato, and other greens. As I remembered from years ago it was a jammed packed sandwich with the highlight being the bread made with a mix of flours and molasses. The soft and slightly sweet bread is definitely what I remember this place for. Can't say that about other restaraunts downtown St John's. I was considering giving this place a four but the server may have caught on and brought me a free sample of bread after chatting about it with him. Gotta respect that NL kindness and hustle. Decent 5 in my books and I'd say it's a must visit if your looking for good vegetarian food in St. John's. Just please get nicer looking menus. It feels like I'm in a Chinese takeout joint lol.

You order and pay at the counter, fill your own water jug, and grab your own cutlery before taking a seat. It's a straightforward system and works well if you're looking for a quick meal. We ordered the Pineapple Taco and the Enchilada. The food was nicely presented and tasted fresh, but the flavors were fairly mild and didn't leave much of an impression. It wasn't bad by any means, just not as flavorful as we had hoped. The biggest disappointment was the value. The portion sizes felt quite small for the price, especially considering the self service format. We left wishing there had been either a bit more food or a little more boldness in the dishes to justify the cost. I can see why it may appeal to those looking for lighter fare. For us, though, the food didn't quite match the price point and overall, based on this visit, it was an average experience.

I had my eye on the PB&J burger that I had seen on Yelp, as peanut butter is my favorite thing ever! This burger did not disappoint. While the combo sounds strange, the flavors were well-balanced with the brie cheese, caramelized onions and bacon. The meat was cooked to a perfect medium and the hamburger bun was soft. I chose the kettle chips for my side, and they tasted house made. Very delicious! The only thing I didn't like about this burger was the price tag = $22. Hubby had the seafood chowder for $17 and it was enough for a full meal. He said the chowder was very flavorful and full of seafood. He was in heaven! We both ordered a Quidi Vidi 1892 amber ale on draft. They only had 7 beers on tap and I wished that they had a medium or dark beer, but this area doesn't seem to be big on that. They do have Guinness in a can, if that's your thing. Service was friendly and the food came out relatively fast. The booths were comfy and the pub reminded me of a cozy neighborhood bar. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!
