Homemade sauces

At first, you may be caught off guard with the pure kindness and generosity but have no fear. This HAS to be the BEST combination of quality food with outstanding service. It felt like a friend invited me over to dinner. This was my second visit and I just had to come leave a review. Thank you Paulo for this memorable experience! I was too busy eating to take pictures of the food but here's a picture of the homemade sauces provided at no charge. (Also the green tea they serve is probably the best you'll ever try)

I love this place - it's amazing plz go and support him, the service is amazing. Small location, but he does take out too!!

I loved this place, the food was great and the service awesome. If you are vegetarian you have many options and in the menu indicates if there is gluten in the dish. They give you hot tea and soup when you arrive, I really appreciated that because of the cold outside. Is a small family owned restaurant. The owner is really nice, he took the time to talk to me and suggested places to visit in the city. Is definitely my favorite!!!

One of those little hidden gems in saint johns is the peaceful loft. Family owned, family run. We were met by a delightful man who was so friendly and so attentive. He was the waitress, the host, the everything guy and then we asked him who he was and he explained he was the owner. He was very friendly, very attentive and very interested in his customers happiness. The food was delicious. I ordered the African chicken (not real chicken-vegan) but I couldn't tell the difference. The peaceful roll is their staple is an appetizer (go figure). The prices are very good and everything is made fresh daily. The only fault I must comment on is the decor. It's rough and tumble looking lol... it's overdue to clean the place up and do some improvements. I like the food a lot. I like the owner and I will definitely be back.

Excellent food prepared with care. Tea is brought from the owner's hometown in Macau. Great hospitality and affordable healthy, fresh food.

Tried it for the first time today. Everything was so flavourful and delicious! Tried the Peaceful Roll, 'pork' dumpling, barbecued 'pork' with 'duck', and a variety of other tofu and noodle dishes. Everything was fresh, tasty, and filling. Absolutely must-try if you're a vegetarian living or visiting St. John's!

One of my favorite spots in St. john's, this place seems to have changed a bit last time I was here…read moretwo years ago. They got a late night taco menu, an organ in the corner, and a different taste in music lol. I'd say the menu hasn't changed too much, but the plastic wrapped menu made it feel a bit cheaper. The dishes did not taste cheaper though that's for sure. I ordered the Tempeh Sandwich ($17) special which had a delicious BBQ sauce, shredded carrots, hummus mix, sliced tomato, and other greens. As I remembered from years ago it was a jammed packed sandwich with the highlight being the bread made with a mix of flours and molasses. The soft and slightly sweet bread is definitely what I remember this place for. Can't say that about other restaraunts downtown St John's. I was considering giving this place a four but the server may have caught on and brought me a free sample of bread after chatting about it with him. Gotta respect that NL kindness and hustle. Decent 5 in my books and I'd say it's a must visit if your looking for good vegetarian food in St. John's. Just please get nicer looking menus. It feels like I'm in a Chinese takeout joint lol.

You order and pay at the counter, fill your own water jug, and grab your own cutlery before taking a seat. It's a straightforward system and works well if you're looking for a quick meal. We ordered the Pineapple Taco and the Enchilada. The food was nicely presented and tasted fresh, but the flavors were fairly mild and didn't leave much of an impression. It wasn't bad by any means, just not as flavorful as we had hoped. The biggest disappointment was the value. The portion sizes felt quite small for the price, especially considering the self service format. We left wishing there had been either a bit more food or a little more boldness in the dishes to justify the cost. I can see why it may appeal to those looking for lighter fare. For us, though, the food didn't quite match the price point and overall, based on this visit, it was an average experience.

I had my eye on the PB&J burger that I had seen on Yelp, as peanut butter is my favorite thing ever! This burger did not disappoint. While the combo sounds strange, the flavors were well-balanced with the brie cheese, caramelized onions and bacon. The meat was cooked to a perfect medium and the hamburger bun was soft. I chose the kettle chips for my side, and they tasted house made. Very delicious! The only thing I didn't like about this burger was the price tag = $22. Hubby had the seafood chowder for $17 and it was enough for a full meal. He said the chowder was very flavorful and full of seafood. He was in heaven! We both ordered a Quidi Vidi 1892 amber ale on draft. They only had 7 beers on tap and I wished that they had a medium or dark beer, but this area doesn't seem to be big on that. They do have Guinness in a can, if that's your thing. Service was friendly and the food came out relatively fast. The booths were comfy and the pub reminded me of a cozy neighborhood bar. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!

I had walked by numerous times and found it odd but respectable that it was always closed during the day and only opened at 5pm. When I went to enjoy a supper with my parents one holiday evening, the interior was decorated nicely and had really kind service. I ordered the Pork Milanese ($28) which was a battered pork loin with creamy gnocchi noodles and mushrooms on the side. The dish was incredibly filling, but it did keep me wanting to continue picking at each noodle after I was already full. The pork had a lemon on this side to give it some extra zest. My dish was good, but my mom ordered the Chicken Parmesan which honestly looked and tasted better than mine. I also attached a picture of it as well. This place didn't have too many entrees to choose from but the chicken was great, and the pork was good. They have many pizza options, but I am not the biggest fan of fancy pizza so I personally would not come here for that selection. From what I ate though, I'd give this place a solid four for a kind atmosphere and filling meal.

Our server Jacob was kind and helpful and the best part was, seemed to really enjoy his job. He took extra care to explain all meals to us and to make sure we would enjoy our selection. The menu is 80% vegan and yet it's nothing like a boring quinoa and kale bowl! We had the fried artichokes on almond purée with pickled celery and they reminded us of fish and chips. Also tried the home-baked flat bread - perfect! - the vegan and gluten-free puttanesca pasta and the Brussels sprouts. Highly recommend EVOO to anyone who is looking for a hearty Italian meal, especially (but not only!) if you prefer vegan and gluten-free food.

It came to $35! I thought it was a mistake but it wasn't. So I thought, oh well, we love pad thai so at least it will have been worth it. Boy was I wrong! The sauce didn't taste like pad thai. It was not spicy at all. The noodles seemed overcooked. And when we got to the middle of the little take-out containers, the noodles were barely seasoned at all, there were no veggies, sauce or meat. Just plain noodles. It's as though the noodles were added to the containers and then they poured a bit of sauce over them, instead of cooking it all up together like is usually done with pad thai. We ended up throwing out about half of each container. A very expensive and very bland meal! Won't return! I should add that the service was fine, no issues at all. The inside of the restaurant, however, looks run down and smells very strongly of cleaning products. I would not have felt comfortable sitting there to eat.
